Tagging Youtube Videos

Youtube can be a useful tool in SEO for DJs. Post videos of your events and tag them well. Keep in mind the markets you serve, town names, your web address etc. Tag it similar to the way you tag your website and provide linkbacks to your Youtube videos on your site

forums and advertising do not go hand in hand

Me too!

I actually proposed here that we compile and maintain an actual ODJT member links page - and Dan seemed to indicate it would be easy enough to do. I wanted something where we would have the html pre-done with links to all our sites that we could maintain and just drop into our websites.

Heck - just a list of Company names and urls would be good!

It never took off though - not enough takers I guess. I'd definitely link to all you guys.

Google attempts to declare thru algorithm whether sites provide good content for users. Providing a dj listing would turn the site away from the main purpose: for djs to provide information back and forth as a community benefit. We are separate here from any other advertising sites, and thus receive a different kind of correlation with our work here.

I applaud ODJT for keeping this forum separate. Since it is hosted by The Wedding Channel, methinks any advertising would be averted to that site.

Am I correct in my ramblings? SEO can be very delicate... more stories to follow.

I actually put one together as Scott indicated but when I left I trashed it all.

If we are going to an ODJT link exchange that would benefit us all here's how it should work.

1. One set of page code would be maintained and each member would have a link on that page.
2. Each time a new DJ signs up with ODJT and has, let's say, ten posts or more, they would be included in the link exchange page.
3. Each time an update is made the membership is notified and they download the updated code and put it up on their website with a link from their main page.
4. The page should have sontent, title, and description that would be attractive to the search engines.
5. It shold be simple with a list of each state and the DJ companies listed alphabetically.

The benefits of this is that you are now part of links on other DJ web pages giving you a contextual advantage and you are also part of a large community of links giving you rank appeal.

I honestly think that all of this should be maintained by one of the ODJT folks.

I was thinking about how easiest to do this. I was going to suggest an iframe or a php include (for those of you with php powered sites). Basically you would just throw a line or two code on your site that pulls a page from ODJT's server since we're rarely down *crosses fingers* and when I do maintenance I only pull the board offline not the whole server it could work.

However there is a couple of problems.

Google's crawler knows what an iframe is and may possibly devalue or even penalize the same page on numerous sites.

The iframe page would look exactly the same on every site, that represents a continuity problem graphics wise.

I still say I keep a live copy on ODJT and I'll post a download link with a zip contain the plain HTML for you do what you want with. I can update this once a week if needed. Heck we can even do it with a locked thread that I just update the post an attachment once a week.

I'm ready to rock and roll folks. :)

And that there is why it will have a problem.

In this case I think we need to get back to basic HTML if this will work. Sure, PHP is server side; however, the bots still have some problems with server side scripting.

To make this work the link page will have to exist in the domain of the each DJ site using it. To make doubly sure that the link page is indexed it should have a text link off of the DJ's main page.

Most of the large engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN) were built around the original premise of the web and that, back in the days of the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET), was the gathering of data from content. What they do best is find and index text and when they hit a brick wall they run home to momma; that is, they try to break it down into text. That's why I'm trying to stick to as many basics as possible in the rebuild of my site.

Recipricol linking is a dying breed (getting indexed is easy). I've spent over 3 years learning SEO and it has become an intrergal part of our biz. Don't believe me, google "DJs in Michigan" "Michigan DJ" "Michigan Wedding DJs". If you are seriously about your positioning in the SERPs, then it will become VERY time intensive. I do this full-time, so I can dedicate a straight 8 hours to off-site optimization. Their algo is always changing, and it is important to keep up on the up. I recommend hiring a professional if you want results now. They are worth their weight in gold.

LOL u and I run parallel lives, but I don't do SEO Full time... I am (at times) the #1 result in google for my keywords...

There is one DJ here in town that does SEO Full time, but I am even higher than him on the SERPs... :) He rose to the top in less than a month but at times I am still higher than him, I don't know how he did it.. but I have surpassed him already... :)

My SEO sucks big time. I'm in the process of redoing my web site, moving away from Go Daddy to take advantage of the free ADJA web hosting, but the site I have had for over a year does not show up at all when I do a search for DJ's in my area. I guess I have no clue and probably need either someone to do it for me or someone tell me step by step what I need to do.

SEO has nothing to do with your web hosting company...

Oh yes it does ;)

Google will tell you if you dig deep enough....

SEO UK ;) Oops - not that the link does much these days except get you guys to look at my **** hot blog

Sarge - Don't do it - there is no such thing as a good free ride.

Get a WP Blog pay to get someone to fluff it up do social, post often, do Flickr, Picasa, Smugmug, Yahoo Buzz, Digg, Reddit, Tweet Meme and so many more.

Put your money where your business is and don't do all the free $hit.

Go Daddy is OK if you buy the dom name there and do a DNS change but their sites are crap

Get a frigging blog.....
