We will be doing karaoke and light dj stuff but..........this is not for karaoke. I wanted instrumental versions of popular songs you hear in clubs but family friendly. Very family friendly!!

Example---I have already purchased the edited version of stuff like "Swing", "Get Low", etc. The edited version--well, it is still pretty obvious what is being said. I want to be able to provide the beat withOUT the "suggestion" of what the words are to play when younger kids are around.

Not trying to be a smart ass here but, if those songs even edited are still too offensive don't play them.

You might checkout Disney versions of popular songs although not by the original artist they are sanitized versions that are kid friendly.

I realize you are not trying to be smart. No, I won't play even the edited version around preteens and younger and with my VFW volunteer work, there are times when I will have young ones around. I am purchasing some of the Disney/kid type music but wanted to also offer something for the older crowd without upsetting moms and dads. These VFW events have age range from newborn to 80 and I want to play a range of music for everyone.

Anyway, I did just find a ton of stuff........on amazon. I've been looking forever and never tried amazon so went and did a search under mp3, then hip/hop and then typed in instrumental. Had a lot of songs come up that are strictly the music.

Here's a couple recommendations:

1. Look at promo only. Their stuff is super clean when compared to even the radio edits.

2. If you want instrumentals - check into record pools where instrumentals are fairly common, as are the acapellas. You should be able to find most of the new stuff that way.

3. If nothing else, edit the track to get it how you want. There are ways to clean up the tracks even more without destroying the 'beat'.

Wow, talk about conservative. I find anything clean enough for the radio is clean enough for me.

One of my subscriptions is Promo Only Urban Club, I get that cause it's very similar to urban radio but all the tracks album versions. I like to play non-edited version in the bars. But the second cd of this comes with a number of instrumental versions.

Hi all. I have been wondering if I can purchase instrumental only version--not radio edit-of rap/hip hop/urban music. Just the music, no vocals.

Thanks!

Get a hookup with the labels... for every song you will receive versions such as Acapella, Clean/Radio, Dirty, Instrumental, Remix, Studio Version. (You have to be a Pro DJ to receive this free service and be willing to report on the new songs before you get the download)

This is what I receive.

You may be able to also go to your local CD store and buy the singles which most times also contain the Instrumentals.

That's the ticket right there.

I omit songs for content all the time without issue. Simply playing an instrumental would just tease or insult those that like the track. The trick is to keep them happy with what you will play. There are thousands of songs to play to a mixed crown and still please everyone. If you are unable to accomplish this, then it might be time to narrow your bookings.

I don't disagree. I don't have bookings, only do volunteer work for the VFW at this time.

We are trying to attract new, younger members to our post. I do karaoke/dj on Saturday nights and I play it all then, no problems. I run a round of karaoke, then a dance song b/4 starting the next round of k. We are all adults on Saturday night and I play unedited versions then b/c it is what the small crowd I have, prefer.

We do set up in more family oriented, public places and b/c we are trying to attract younger potential members, I am looking to get them interested and looking back at us while keeping things as clean as possible b/c of the places we set up.

What has happened b/4 is I play "crowd friendly" music and the younger ones will nod their head and walk on by. I am trying to stop them from just walking by. We can't even get them to stop and talk b/c they see a bunch of older guys and a younger chick (me) in funny little hats and they just move on.

It is just an idea I had and it may be all for naught. Who knows, anyway, gonna purchase a few of these instrumental tracks and see what happens b/c if I can get them to stop and talk, I can let them know how it is on Sat nights and maybe with luck, get them in our doors.

Well, I play just about every local VFW/KOC/ELKS/LEGION post quite frequently in my area. The one thing I know about them, is that they are no place for kids.

That is if I can assume that by a "younger" crowd, you mean teens.

If you're trying to attract younger members in the 21+ range, then you don't have to censor anything beyond a radio edit.

No Hank, not at the VFW but when we set up for events outside our post in the community in general.

Who pays for your music?

Who is going to pay for the music you seek?

I pay for my own music. I do not do illegal downloads if that is what you are asking. Eventually, I want to turn this into a business and when that happens, I will continue to do volunteer work for this VFW b/c I am an actual member there and we do good things for our community and our veterans.

If you can swing it, TMStudios has a weekly and a monthly service that is are best in the industry.

The service also gets you access to their online inventory of instrumentals.

Rox,

Ya beat me to it - Prime Cuts Plus has instrumentals of many newer songs - although I don't think there have been a lot of updates there recently.

Guess it's a sign of budget cuts?

Cheers,

Joe
