I could do it, but do you want to pay $479 for Rockit...?

Nah, I'll just steal it like I always do. :yosatan:

You should raise the price so I can charge to make skins. Right now, my starting price for a skin would be the same as the software.:triwink:

Dude, yer absolutely lucky I like you, Levi, and think Michaela is gonna be a rock and roll star, who will make Elvis and Michael pale in comparison.

Ahhh, never mind, I'm buzzed, and trying to write an email to my brother. An exercise in futility... :sqerr:

Tell Mickey I said Hot Patootie, Bless my Soul -- I really love that rock and roll...

Send him this Ricky ;)

Rick, how do I go about moving (or in my case redownloading) RockIt to a new lappy?
Old one came down with a case of Blue Screen Of Death.

You send me an email via my support page, and I tell you the options you have, depending on the version you have... :)

I don't post that info in public for various reasons...

Gotcha! Thanks.

There's a new utility program available for Rockit 5, called (unsurprisingly) Rockit Diagnostics.

You more than likely do not need this program, because it is used for logging debugging info for me, but it also allows for a factory reset of Rockit, without doing an uninstall/reinstall.

It seems that there are a number of folks out there (especially those that work for multi-ops), who will either just unplug their computer at the end of a gig, or simply press the power button, and shut down Windows without closing Rockit first. That will usually result in corrupted configuration files for Rockit, and possibly library database corruption.

This nifty little program will check Rockit's files, generate a full report for me for support calls, and also allow the user to reset all config files back to the defaults (that requires re-validating the software).

It can be found at the bottom of the SoftJock.Com->Downloads page here:

Also, the summer sale I've been running on Rockit and other software will end tonight (actually tomorrow morning when I get up).

Hey Ricky,

Is there or will there be a line in option for Rockit? It would be neat for using my USB mic or external device.
That "other" software has the feature, but I don't like the skins.

Not currently...

Not sure if I will add that, as it obviously requires some overhead. In Win 7, you can set the mic to output directly to the sound card though.

Rick or Hank, could dj-900 skin be made into a wide version? I love that skin and would like it to fit the entire screen.

Also I always have trouble reading the skins outside when it is sunny. Would be nice to have one that very basic, with larger font on it that would be easily read in bright outside areas. With auto mix in it. Just a thought.

That would take a bit of work... ;)

You can easily change the background color, text color, and size of the lists -- just right click on the list. As for the other text, that requires manually modifying the skin at the current time. I have most of the external skin editor built, but will not have time to finish it until after the move...

It's easier to leave the layout in tact and add something to the right and extend the bottom. You could add the video and sample stuff over there or make a larger automix list on the right side. You could then use the space where the automix was for a logo or other feature.

Hi Rick newbie running Rockit Pro DJ V5

I,m running it on a notepad edited the skin to suit from your tutorial.

Recently when using the programme i get a pause in the sound track just like its stopped then started again just for two or three seconds over 15 tracks.
Playing 15 tracks on deck A the glitch happened on tracks 2,4,8,
On Deck B tracks 4,10 only.

My question is would your DJ diagnostic find the problem and produce a report.

No, the diagnostic program cannot do that.

The only things that could cause a pause, are usually hard drive related, because Rockit is a streaming program. It doesn't read the entire song into memory, only what it needs (a few seconds worth at a time).

If some other process is making use of the drive your music is stored on, when Rockit needs to grab the next few seconds of data, it can take a bit for the read head to reposition itself, and grab said data and buffer it.

If it's an external USB drive, you should make sure it is defragged, non-indexed, and not being used by any other processes. Most USB drives are slow to begin with, and the bandwidth depends on what else is on the root hub -- so I generally don't recommend their use, unless you are used to keeping them optimized. An internal or external SATA drive will give pristine results.

Ricky could the drive be falling asleep? Specially if it's a long song (Recommend MDIS??)

It's possible, especially if the tunes are being drawn from multiple drives, but unlikely with Rockit.

MDIS does a HARD write to the drives in order to keep them going -- reads, and soft writes don't count, because they are usually cached. So yes, a drive can spin down, even when being read from, because the entire song may actually be in cache.

It's been my experience though, that generally it's another process that's accessing the drive, at the same time the software is trying to read a portion of data. The head has to jump all over the place, and the cache on the drive and in Windows needs to be cleared to accept the new data, and get rid of the other stuff. That just slows everything to a crawl.

If you've ever had a video pause/flutter, you'll understand -- because Rockit's decoder works similar to DirectX (parts of DX are based upon Rockit's decoder streaming). If the drive is fast, and optimized -- you'll never have an issue.

CPU usage on Rockit is almost NIL during audio playback, so unless something grabs 100% CPU, that is usually not an issue.

Could a screen saver kicking in give this result
