Proper maintenace on gear before an event

preventative maintenance will allow you insurance. Some things we cant prepare for like someone elses runaway dolly which might crash into your dolly breaking the axle or even damaging the wheels on your coffin case. Worst yet a garbage truck not seeing you while loading in and you narrowly escaping but your cart and gear destroyed. Leaving you with a bundle of junk and a broken fibula.:sqwink:
How about as back up for that time that the wheels on the coffin cease to work or for any of the other pieces you have on rolling travel cases?

Chuck's Code Of Ethics...........

Do what's right for me and my business.
Don't try to be someone or something I am not.
Treat everyone fairly.
Only yell "FORE" when I mean it.

i don't bring a back up cart. If the cart goes flat, i'll put the muscles to work and carry it. Cart has not gone flat yet.

Some things are not essential for the event, so therefore, no back up.

regular mixer is not backed up. I have a very small backup mixer.

I don't always have a back up wireless mic. I sometimes have wired mics as back up.

We had a dolly, but after one event, a tire went flat. We limped it along by refilling it with air before each use. One day, we decided to check out either Home Depot or Lowe's (can't remember which one) and we found a cart that rates for 500lbs, folds up, and only cost about $40. The J Mac modified the castors so that they could move in any direction. We've been using this since December and we love it. :)

Not having read through all the posts in this thread, my answer is that DJs are anarchistic creatures.

Having now read through all the posts in this thread, my answer remains. So sue me.

Dolly? Hello? Hello, Dolly?

Liar Liar Pants on fire you said before you dont use a cart.

As far as a code of ethics goes, ethics are personal and reflect an individual's moral and ethical obligation of themselves to their clients. As far as I am concerned the ethics of a DJ has nothing to do with what they own or carry, how it is set up or used, but how that person treats others that he has to deal with.

Steve, you typed what I was thinking. :)

Bravo, Santa!:sqwink:

Is it the Rubbermaid cart? I have 2 of them and I love them.

School starts in a week...do you have your tuition ($5000)? Please make the check out to Anna Pentikis. Thanks! :D

A dangerous practice. Cash or Bank check only....:sqcool:

Of course MY DJ Dojo also accepts Pepsi by the case & Pepsi Points, if you're interested, and we also teach Drunken Restraint style.....

I had you in mind Joe but I didn't want to get my rep dinged again today. LOL

Can you believe that I got dinged because I asked a new DJ how old he was and where he was located?

I knew you could see my avatar...:sqfrown:

People will ding for anything- or not. All a matter of mood, I guess.

I'm a Coke Cola guy Joe, so I finally found something about you I disagree with. LOL

Pepsi You've got to be kidding me.

Oh, I think Coke's great.....for filling bee traps and possibly other external uses. Ingesting it? Well, maybe with a vodka additive for sensory protection, but never straight. It tastes like metal cleaner.. Even RC is better.

The delicate and sensual hint of citrus as well as the lighter yet more satisfying bouquet and flavor of a fine Pepsi is the Nirvana of cola drinkers.

Beats hell out of having to make coffee after waking up too! Got all the basic food groups required for breakfast: Sugar, Wake Yer Face Up Fizz, and Caffeine.

As for disagreeing: You REALLY have to listen to a pair of 12" EVs, my friend...

Posted on a thread that the following are poor examples of a Professional Mobile DJ

A DJ using one speaker for the event

A DJ not properly dressed for the event

A DJ with out a Wireless Microphone for a Wedding Reception

A DJ with all his DJ Components spread out on a table

A DJ showing up at a location without a dolly to transport his equipment having to borrow one from the facility

A DJ playing with his DJ Party Lights during Dinner Time

I Found myself having DJs disagree with these observations.

Why isn't there a Code of ethics or a standard mode of operation that all Mobile DJs can agree on?

I've been known to use a single Eon-15 for very small gatherings.

I wore a tux to a wedding and everyone else showed up in jeans.

When I started DJing only a broadcaster or touring company could afford a wireless mic, and most of them didn't use them either.

When I used turntables stacking the gear wasn't really an option, and there's no rackmount kit for the Technics SL-1200MKII

Sometimes, I forget to bring a handtruck and I actually have to carry something in my bare hands!

Not sure what you mean by "playing with your party lights" during dinner - is that some kind of internet slang?

Surely you can come up with some real "ethical" issues rather than a litany of personal pet peeves?
