Code of ethics......

Anybody want to start a list that DJs should follow?

My first contributions would be.............

A Mobile DJ should not have to borrow anything from the facility to do his Job.

A Mobile DJ should always leave his area clean after he leaves much like it was when he arrived.

A Mobile DJ should never limit his music library.
 
There are too many variables and types of events to categorize exclusively your efforts. they are fruitless in general. Seperate all the variables and then you can truly gain the correct list.

You could always start your own code of ethics to follow suit, or join the Dr. Drax Club as I have

(thats a business to business thing my contract calls for a 6' table)

A Mobile DJ should always leave his area clean after he leaves much like it was when he arrived.
(hmm this is debatable but dont want to start that debate just yet i need a cigarette and some caffeine)

I have a code of ethics that I follow. I do get ideas from others and update my code of ethics. But I don't worry about what someone else's version of code of ethics are.

I will do some parties with one bose L1. If someone thinks that is one speaker, they have that right to remain misinformed.
In certain situations, if a second L1 is not going to add to the overall sound, we wont do it. We just did a reception for 95 guests in a small room. In my opinion, a second L1 would have added nothing. My only concern is my clients being happy. They were very happy. My code of ethics or code of being a professional DJ says bring the right equipment for the situation and bring back up.
I have a rock and roller. If I didn't have my cart, I could carry my gear in. I occasionaly come to a venue when it's easier to carry my gear than use the cart.
I use laptops.
I will turn the lights on anytime the client wants
I do offer discounts
If some other DJ thinks that i'm unprofessional, i'll get over it
 
Scott i think you are a true professional. Its all about perception with speakers and such. I see guys with Bose systems (jealous sometimes not all though) and then i see these guys load in with a box truck and trailer for the exact same size room. A little overkill if you ask me. a professional knows what to use and when to use it as you pointed out.

I am a master at up-counting as well
 
As usual that is your lack of experience talking Scott.

You can never assume that you can move your equipment into the room without a Dolly.
There might be that time that the normal way you load into a facility is changed due to work being done on the passage way or any other myriad of reasons.

By the way what is your back up for the Bose L1 system that you admit if a second one is required you won't do it? Am I misunderstanding what you said?

am i not a professional because Ive never used a dolly... ive always had a roadie that works a little better than me wrecking my dolly into the walls. I can play dolly i particularly like islands in the stream but dont use one. I guess im not professional
 
Nope because there will be that one time the roadie didn't make it and you will have to find yourself scavenging for a Dolly.

Or

There will be that one time you made a mistake and showed up late to the event with your Roadie and your load in time would of been quicker if you had 2 Dolly's and both of you could of moved equipment at the same time.
 
well youre wrong because Ive NEVER had a roadie miss, I have a roadie on stand by and we load out with an extra hour from the warehouse...

flawed again my friend because i dont move ****...


just kidding...

dont need a dolly though maybe when i get old like you and my back goes out but nope don't need no dolly...
 
A dolly? We don't need no stinkin' dollies!! Dollies are for little girls. Man up!

Roadies? We don't need no stinkin' roadies!! Back in the day, we carried tens of crates of vinyl up three flights of stairs - after carrying each speaker upstairs by hand. Man up!

Dollies and roadies are for wimps! :p

If you have read enough DJ Chat Board Stories you will come across the (Transmission went out in my vehicle while going to the gig) (I went to the wrong location) (They made us load in thru the service entrance which was on the other side of the Hotel) (My Roadie quit because he could see that using a Dolly was the smarter thing to do so he started his own DJ Company)

When i see from your personal experience. Roadies meet here at the warehouse. Vans maintained, we prep early enough yadda yaddda the dolly isnt going to make a bit of difference. I agree with everything youve said in this thread but that...

Im not you, dont know much about you, but im not a full time single op that brings everything i wish i could. We are very much a big box

Standard set up is
powered sub on roller
2 eon g2s in roller bags
40 lb processor rack
coffin with wheels
2 cd books stored in a rubber maid tote
2 t-stans or a truss in a zippered bag
4-8 lights in arriba bags
where is the neccesity for the dolly
