See, everyone can play nice. No one should be put down because they are going to do "their own thing" Just wish them luck. Why did this have to get so heated and over blown?? I don't understand. Who's to say what is or isn't the right thing to do. We all have our own styles and that's what makes us ALL unique. There is NO "DJ LAW" that says we MUST do things a certain way.

Why post it on a message board unless your looking for feedback. Sue, we arent a bunch of mindless lemmings, that go along with what everyone says or does. I never said its a good idea and I certainly dont have to agree with it. It started out as trying to make a point. The more he tried to explain himself the more everyone seemed to find flaws in what hes doing.

I really dont think anyone is angry at him for doing it, just trying to make a statement. Hes a great guy, and helps everyone out. I for one have had opposing views with him before, and I'll have more in the future, but that doesnt mean I or anyone else here think any less of him.

I think everyone has made their point known and they were good arguments. Time to move on. Now it either becomes congratulations or it continues to get nasty. LOL

I agree with you that it's time to move on to congratulations. I took the post as to someone who is willing to try something new and to not get "slammed" for what he is trying to do. Who know's he may be on to something, I don't know.

By no means was I emplying that there were a bunch of "mindless lemmings" on this board. If you took it that way, I'm sorry. But it wasn't meant that way.

I agree that this is a place to view opinions. That's the point.....OPINIONS....NOT attacks!

Sue, maybe I missed the attacks. People have accused me of attacking them, when all I'm trying to do is point out an opposing view. I'm not always right, I dont think you or basic are onto anything earth shattering. I did my own sisters wedding but I paid a DJ friend to do my wedding. I've never hosted one of my own events ever, nor would I. I believe its about family and thats where your head has to be.

The way I look at it, if he had 1 million dollars would he still be doing this party himself? Only he can answer that honestly. I dont need to hear the answer.

OOPS! Did I say we were on to some "earth shattering" invention?? I think not.

Did you ever stop to think that he just wants to do the music because he enjoys doing it so much?? And maybe to see if his idea would work?? I did mine because there was no one else around to do it for me that I could trust.....not saying it was the "right" thing to do, but for me it went off smoothly and everyone had a great time. If there was a dj around that could have done it, yes....I would have had them do it, but there wasn't. No harm done.

Sue now your sounding egotistical, and that nobody is as good as you.

Its not about the love of music, its about the love of a fiance and soon to be wife. Obviously to you and basic, your hobby or career is your life. I'm sure it can be done, to that there is no doubt but who is he proving the point to and what statement is he making to his family. If half the board think hes doing the wrong thing just imagine what 50 plus people in the room will think.

Not that this is about what other people think because I dont want to make that another point. I'd just assume end this discussion, because you and he feel strongly about this and I dont.

Again, people have different values, and it's okay.

It will be something in between: 50 DJs in the room may think it's wrong, while 50 "budget-conscious-people" will say that's smart. Over-analysing? I KNOW that 50 people in this board DO NOT even come close to being a sample of the general population--and especially not of Basic's closest friends and family.

You don't feel strongly about what Basic is going to do but, according to what you have said before, you feel strongly about your arguments. Eh?

Hey, I don't feel that I can do something better than anybody else. My motto is: NO MATTER HOW GOOD YOU ARE, THERE'S ALWAYS SOMEBODY BETTER! I am by no means the BEST nor do I make claims to be the BEST.

By the way.....YOU are NOW attacking when there is absolutely NO REASON to attack!! You yourself said this was a board to voice our opinions. I voiced mine without attacking you so why do you attack me????

By the way, I did my reception in the club I was working at and the owner did not want anyone else in the booth working the equipment. It wasn't a matter of no one else measuring up to me.

OU are NOW attacking when there is absolutely NO REASON to attack!!

See, just like you I have a different perspective on whats considered attacking. Did I call you a name that offended you, if so I'm sorry. You yourself said you didnt trust anyone. Whats one to think.

Yes, I didn't trust anyone that offered to dj that the owner would approve of!!! If that makes me sound egotistical, so be it, but when it would mean my job, then I protect that with all I got.

C'mon you 2, lets get back on topic. Please?

I'm sorry what was the topic? I think we covered the topic ad nauseum.

Really there is no purpose to this thread.

Sue, I dont even know you, by the looks of your avatar you look like a super friendly person. I'm just having a bit of fun, forgive me.

I don't think Chris was EVER trying to say that a formal function can just be programmed by anybody with the means. Nor was he suggesting that a physical MC is unnecessary.

This is an engagement party. Nothing more than a glorified gathering when you get right down to it. He's proud of his business. He simply wanted to flaunt his accomplishments in front of his friends and family. I do the same thing at the annual family July fourth cookout. It's human nature, not ego. If you can't seek praise from your own family, then who?

Should a contractor work on their own house or help the industry by hiring a peer?

Chris (or anyone else) is no threat to anyone here. Don't fear the public perception of the DJ industry. Fear the public opinion of yourself as a DJ.

Have a great time Chris and congratulations!
