At the risk of setting Cesar off, would you take this wedding?

This came in a Decidio.com lead that I will not be persuing even though I have the date available, and it is at a good venue close to my home, AND they have indicated that they are willing to pay what I charge.

I would have to pay for all the info.... just a buck or two, but when I read that, I don't need to go any further. I don't even want to think about talking to her as I just know I am not the right person for her event.

EDIT... my choice is made. No need to try and convince me what to do. I am just curious what you would do IF SHE REALLY DEMANDED 100% CONTROL, and there was no moving her off that position.
 
Money is always good but I've had one of these before and I probably wouldn't do it again. I couldn't get the crowd worked up like a normal gig. I left there feeling like I didn't/couldn't do my best.
 
Of course I would take it.

For those of you that say you won't even call her you are passing a oppurtunity that she is saying that but is willing to take guidance from her DJ.

What if she really did mean that she wanted 100% control of the playlist, and you could not "guide her" in any way? Those were the exact words in the lead - "I want 100% control of the playlist"......

Still taking it?

I might think about that, except that in this instance it is a Decidio.com lead, and I have not had a successful transaction from them so far. Every one I contacted has said that they already booked a DJ or had some excuse not to meet. Of course, this was all email, and no face to face - which was their stated preference ( no phone calls ).
 
I'd at least check it out and try to get a face-to-face meeting and see where it will lead....but again that's just my opinion. :D

Would ya pay a few bucks to get the info to call her, knowing in advance that she already sounds too controlling? Because I would have to, to get the information to contact her.

Like that book suggested, that I read, "life is too short to work with or for people you won't enjoy working with or for"......

I am a firm believer in that.

Just inform here that there will be an additional charge of $500 in order for her to have 100% control. Money talks both ways.

She may be trying to scare away the weak at heart. She may be pleasant to work for and you will never know. It is hard to read meaning in email... or posts for that manner sometimes. Maybe she means styles... not all songs.

Call her feel her out then make a decision.
 
Papa I respect your approach as you select only the gigs you want. I myself have had great success during meetings to either show the bride how she can make the decision to alter the thought. On a couple occasions I played from the 200 song list cause in fact it gave me opportunity to choose a great playlist sort of like that thread Goodknight started with a similiar bride. If at the meeting she wanted them played in order I would likely then say perhaps you could save yourself a bundle of money for your honeymoon and bring an ipod.

You can definitely gain

I've had parties where the Bride had full control
One - about 1 hour into open dance, bride says "Screw it, play what they want"
and she was very happy with her decision
The Other - played 7 hours (6pm - 1AM) of her Music
it was a very nice Wedding Reception, no dancing but that is what they
wanted. I received a $100 Tip for not deviating the plan.
I have actually received 6 bookings from this one.

Hell Yeah it was boring for me, But I was able to mingle with alot of people that night.
 
How much do they charge to receive the rest of the info for the lead? It might be worth taking the risk...the first thing I would ask the bride is why she wants complete control of the playlist. You might be surprised...perhaps she saw another dj play a really inappropriate song at another wedding and feels like she has to control the whole thing. It could be more then the initial reason we might all come up with - that she's a bridezilla.

In most cases when I sit down with a couple that wants alot of control over the music, the reason that comes out is nothing that I thought it might be. And usually after I explain all the reasons why it's good to be flexible with the music, they understand and working together is a breeze.

You guys are missing my point.... what if there is NO MAKING HER BUDGE even a bit? Regardless of how you explain it.

Do you STILL want the event? Simple. Would you work with a client who offered ZERO flexibility in what you play?
