I had one this summer request Shake That...Unedited..I told her there was no way in hell....That I wouldn't play it :sqwink:
 
I love that song! We have BOTH VERSIONS (one has a bleep when he says "Oh $h1t....")

Its great for the Electric Slide, but most of my clients say "No Line Dances" nowadays...

I think you actively discourage clients from this stuff. It just isn't possible that so many of your clients don't "do" what 90% of the rest of the country does do.
 
Papa you should see our DNP's these days.. please no line dances, please no group dances, please no hokey wedding crap although they almost always end up doing it.

Well, I haven't seen that done in years, but line / group dances live on in Philly.... I do play the Hokey Pokey at abouut 75% of my Bubble Parties, though!
 
Kyle's right. Some brides will specify no cheesy line dances at the outset. Then reality hits at the reception. Guests want to know why she nixed the fun and she'll say play whatever. Then she's out there on the floor with the rest and having a ball, lol.

Strokin' carries some baggage... I've been yelped at by guests who'll play the "christian" card. But if the B&G ask for it, I'll pump it up loud. :)
 
"Strokin' " has been a standard at weddings in my neck of the woods for more than 20 years.
It's a real crowd pleaser and always gets the floor filled.

Papa, I'll put it my answer in the language of a popular Fox-TV character:

Due to my advertising no cheese, my brides all have extensive DNPs (like Kyle said, above).

"No Line Dances" is a common instruction nowadays!

Yes, we're doing the OPPOSITE of what other DJ companies do (advertising No Cheese).......BUT look at the folks who are doing this:

Garth Torgerson(Seattle area) is having great success with the concept.

Desmond Thomas (Atlanta area) grossed $300,000 last year. He is having his best year ever!

I've never met her----but I'll bet Kim at "No Macarena" has a full calendar (she's in Philly area).
 
Got that beat, I had a groom ask for Too Short - Bl0wJob Betty as the last song of the evening, I had it and played it. Luckily all the older crowd and kids were long gone. Some of the venue staff come up to me while I was tearing down, and commented about the song. They said "Gotta tell you, never heard a DJ play that one before." I told them I had never played it before either , and would probably never play it at an event again, but the Groom had requested it, he got it. Guess it must have been on a cd I bought sometime for another song I needed.
 
Brides who demand that you do not play any line or group dances, really don't give a darn about their guests.
Sure, group and line dances get old. BUT........

there are many people who simply cannot dance except to the well known line dances. And when you do not play any of these standards, those folks do not have a good time.

I did a couple of events this year, placating such demanding clients. At the end of the night, I knew that the event sucked! And so did the audience.

What I do now is explain to the bride that in life there are compromises. For whatever reason she might have that causes her to say...no line dances...it is imperative that some sort of compromise comes about.

Mind you, there are events where the dancing is so intense and spontaneous, that I never get to play a line dance. But those events are few and far between.

I have built my reputation on delivering a good event to the guests.
And in most cases, a little "cheese" goes a long way to making the event enjoyable for everyone.

That's all well and good for the clients.... but what about the guests who may never become your clients because they were disappointed?

I would think that anyone that offers a no cheese service really wouldn't care about alienating the others in the audience because they wouldn't have booked with them anyway due to the no cheese policy. I would also expect that a service like this fills a niche and could charge extra for what they don't do

But then again after 8 shots of Jack Daniels everyone likes cheese :sqwink:
