Anybody with Rockit wanna help with a quick test...?

Two hour window just started, with Amazon testing their new API. This might effect whether Rockit can still grab album art from them when loaded into a deck (they are slightly anal, and had no clue whether this would effect this particular API call).

Mines still working...

You need the machine connected to the internet to test, and use a well know artist, that you know has no album art in the tag.

The test will last until 4pm EDT. If anybody sees anything (or doesn't), let me know -- thanx :)

Internet error 400 with Win 7 but the trial version of Rockit with "Love game Lady Gaga"

Ok, maybe I started too early.

It appears they have locked that part of the API out.

You won't notice it (other than the art not showing), unless you go into the tag editor/multi file tag editor and try to do an Amazon lookup. It will return an error 400, although it does no harm -- just click Ok.

Error messages are turned off in the deck loads, so no problems there.

Their API change goes into effect on the 15th of this month, so after that, Rockit will not load Amazon cover art, unless they change their mind about that part of their API...

If they're going to charge for that service, I will probably remove it from the next release of Rockit, as it wouldn't be cost effective. If that's the case, I will investigate other avenues to auto load the cover art...

Perhaps info album art from freedb can't believe they Amazon would charge but who knows now days..

Problem is, they won't specify what they might charge for -- they just want a credit card number from developers, and then they'll figure out what to charge for later... :sqerr:

I find it ridiculous that they can't specify what might be charged, and how much!

Let's say they decided to charge a penny for each album cover art. Lets say 2 million people are using Rockit, and they each load 100 songs per day -- then I get billed for that :sqerr: :sqeek:

I already have servers setup with album art -- so that may be the way I go with the next version, and just bypass them altogether -- more work on my part, but less headaches... :)

Bump

Let me know when you have M3U playlist & ASIO support for Rockit.

I'll consider buying it then :sqwink:

By the way I just post these requests every week or so to keep the thread alive while you are doing your floors.:sqlaugh:

Surprisingly enough, I am actually getting in a few hours per day of work on the software :)

Just so y'all know, I do the bulk of my programming during the winter, and about 30% during August. Spring and fall are farm work (June and July belong to the beer guy). During farm work and beer, is when I figure out what I need to do, by listening to you folks.

My little notepad, is always nearby, even if I'm rockin' to a video :D

I will do what I can...

Here's a video too!

Important Note

Remember, after today, the Amazon cover art lookup will cease to function, so you should turn it off in the Config->General section (uncheck Lookup Art on Internet and Pick Random art, if you have them turned on).

It will keep Rockit from attempting to get the art, which will alleviate it from wasting CPU cycles, and the songs should load a tiny bit faster :)

Oddly enough, my album art is still working today... :sqconfused:

Like I mentioned, the folks at Amazon seem a little odd and confused, and I'm not totally sure they know what they're doing either -- maybe they get their beer delivered by the pallet too... :sqlaugh:

flac

Rick, since it's early aug(not that long from june july kinda sorta)... what are the chances of getting support for flac files? It would make my life easier, thanks

About the same as a bobsledding team from Jamaica... :D

If you have a decent Codec and DirectShow filter, they may play in our video decks... Don't have any, never tried. You can drag just about any sort of file into our video decks from Window's Explorer -- if you have the right Codec and filter, they should play.

As to the future -- the next version of Rockit, will probably offer multiple decoder and renderer options for the main decks. The timing of that release, is built around Windows 7 -- in other words, you won't see any new versions of Rockit, until after the final 7 has released, and I've been able to test all the old and new stuff I'm working on.

I certainly hope they didn't put any surprises in -- I hate surprises :sqerr: :sqlaugh:

One for the do not play list -- Norton 360.

I had a guy with an issue last month, where Rockit wouldn't start. Double-click the icon, and nothing came up, but you couldn't run any programs until after you shut Rockit down in Task Manager.

Couldn't figure it out till now.

Another guy has the same problem the other day -- I go thru the same process to debug. Remembered the first guy, and looked at his emails.

Turns out, they were both using Norton 360.

The latest guy is a computer geek, and was kind enough to use a fresh system to test. So, he installs Rockit and his normal programs, runs fine -- then he installs Norton 360, and Rockit, and a few other programs cease to run!

I've read about numerous problems with Norton 360, and given this latest data, I'm very wary of it. I have no idea why it is blocking programs from running (including Rockit).

Just thought I'd pass on the info :)

Note to Rockit users:

The FIOS switchover will be occurring tomorrow (9/11) -- I expect the phone and email service will be down for at least a few hours, perhaps the entire day.

So, if you plan on breaking something, do it today or Saturday :)

well just a suggestion.since it will be down tommorrow i think late hrs for today is looking real good, let me try that support line,my library opens on top of my mixer, how do i fix that, lol.

iRockit skin tweak...

I've played a few outside gigs this year and found that my Dark Grey skin was hard to read with the sun. :sqfrown:

But, I found that the iRockit skin was a much better choice and after some tweaking, I used it today. The sun was at my back, striking the lappy screen dead on. This skin was much nicer and worked well.

I've included a screen shot of my tweak (added two ques that I utilize for holding music before either uploading it into a deck or into my main mix que.

Also, HERE IS THE LINK for the xml file.

Hi Rick,

I would really love to see "native" support for the PCDJ DAC-3 controller. it does say it is MIDI compatible... but I can't get it to be recognized in Windows Vista 64.

If you need one for testing... I am willing to yank mine out and send it to you for a couple of weeks.

I thought you said you had a Denon 4500 on the way -- per our emails last week...? :sqconfused:

The "nice" folks in FL tried to send me their remaining stock, before they discontinued selling them -- I turned them down too :D

Sell it for a boat anchor on eBay -- everybody else did ;) :)

Ahh... yes... the joys of unreputable sellers on the internet!

Bottom line is, I ordered it, money was removed from my account and the Denon never showed up.

In the meantime, I would really love to have full redundancy between two systems. PCDJ is offering a $79 upgrade from VRM to Red Mobile and it seems to work very well with the DAC3. But the prospect of creating different playlists, and learning different ways of doing things is never fun.

So... I guess I'll be back on the market for a DN4500... as soon as I can get my money back.
