Yea, would be nice to add a QSC K8 with sub into the mix.
As somebody else mentioned, there is no good reason to invite brides or even other wedding vendors. I don't even know why they would show up...unless there is free food.

that would have been me Wes, and I was beginning to think I was on ignore because I made (what I thought were) valid points but no one has addressed them....
Personally I wouldn't take the time to to to hear so and so's system compared to so and so's system,,,, I mean who knows what other components comprise each system. It just wouldn't be a fair evaluation.
But I have never been to a "shoot out" so maybe what I am wanting to know is to stupid to warrant the time by someone to explain.

Ben's right. A confab of this nature is for experience and education, not comparisons of two very different pro sound systems.
System tone and projection comparisons, I can understand. There is little else to compare between a line array and conventional FOH system.

Not a stupid observation at all... and I meant to address your point earlier today but got pulled away to do something else.
I do see your point about potential clients... and other venders.....
What we'd like is as close to a real world evaluation as we can get by having people actually in the room.
The invite will be made and if folks come they come if they don't they don't hence the need to RSVP
I think the obvious thing to get out of all this is a comparison of systems that many don't ever have a chance to hear or actually even see except at trade shows...
If Keith hadn't bought his Dynacord system I probably would never get a chance to see one let alone hear one in my area... GC don't carry that kind of thing and Woodwind and the Brasswind snub DJs left and right... although I did hear that back in 2006 GC bought them... much to my dismay...
Anyway... the important thing is we get to finally hear what all the fuss is about... for both sides of the fence. In a fair and un-biased way. Ben will make sure of that.
I hope that some more folks from ODJT will come out... and see too.
But above everything else this is about having fun and well networking to an extent. In the end there will be no loser or winner because the systems are so different and serve different purposes so each will be a winner in their own realm of application.
on the contrary. Dont you see the potential to showcase some of the finest equipment to potential clients who may have only experienced much less in sound quality. Highlighting this with two or more fine DJs which might just help with the whats different from one or the other after all we are all DJs.
The vendors see the cream of the crop and I know many of mine comment on the tone of my system which many here have claimed over the past few yrs. When do either have a chance to see the difference? IF you get vendors to offer up something they love providing when they have some brides to court. Brides will like it if they get some specials coupons from the local day spa or other potential contributors. These are just random thoughts thrown around its not my gig but I see potential for many to gain. Plus you fill the room with a real crowd and can show weaknesses or strengths in real world situations. I would even love to run a MP3 challenge If I were there. You could possibly get Pepsi to come in and provide the Pepsi challenge along with it. OF course the Coke drinkers might not be good judges after the fact as Coke sucks. LOL

Your points are excellent, and that has already been addressed. We will be using a digital audio matrixing system to send EXACTLY the same audio to all systems at EXACTLY the same levels. Rob and I visited about this quite a bit the other night, we talked about also shrouding the systems so the listener could not tell which one he was hearing and would only judge based on the sound they heard. We had a few fun ideas like that. A battery of different tests, all scientificly administered, so the results could be compiled and aggregated.

I ran a bass test from some youtube videos and if there is any degree of accuracy to them I was able to hit just below 40hz
Ok, you pansy asses who have to drive a meer 4 hours.....this old boy is pushing over 6 pulling a full gear trailer and if the dates work for my schedule, i'm going to be there. I'm really hoping for a Friday/Saturday date to allow me to spend as much time with the group as possible.
The thought of having the TourX compared to all the other systems in a controlled environment excites me. Why? Because, I'd personally like to know if I'm getting everything out of my system that I can....or, if by tweaking some things, it could be made better. By having NFLX there with their pro equipment feeding each system, that levels the field. I'd also love to hear some of the passive systems, something I may entertain for my next purchase.
But if time allows I think it would be cool to allow those that want to play their system as they would normally have it set up. So, collectively as a group, we could help our fellow dj (who by the way we have no territorial battles with hahaha) and give opinions on tone and sound (knowing this is subjective) and possibly helping one another have a better sounding system, if possible, by suggesting way to improve.
On another note:
Kirby & the Ducky family were the first & only few that I met from ODJT...and while I was nervous at first, our time was great. I've never really been able to talk shop with dj's from other areas like we were able to do. My wife even commented that she enjoyed herself and she knows about as close to nothing about djing as you can. I would enjoy another opportunity to meet with more from here as well.

I attended a shoot out at the Chicago ADJA meeting several back and it was pure unadulterated bullpucky, especially when Bernie came on and proceeded to violate every agreement and standard.
No siree. Bring what you gotta bring to make your stuff sound great. Itemize it. Price it. Listen to it. Ask some passers-by to listen in. Let's then talk about the what ifs. An amp blows. Then what? A speaker blows? Then what? Important stuff like that, not a stupid friggin meter reading, unless it's the only thing ya got...loud.

My friend, I couldn't disagree more on the meter thing, but then again, I am a geek. I completely and wholeheartedly agree that listeners should have priority as a live audience is in fact what we play to. However, a company that touts "Better sound through research" should not encourage us to leave "meters" at home. Substantial effort is undertaken by audio engineers, shouldn't we have the opportunity to also show that to people in the real world. While a 'listening demo' is great.... I think leaving meters home (and by the way, I'm not talking SPL meters here.. I'm talking filtered pink-noise, swept-sine, etc... TRUE audio performance monitoring, SMAART and the like) eliminates some of the truly educational possibilities that exist here. Why not make this worth the very long drives some are undertaking to create an atmosphere of education, fellowship and fun?
Most of all, I think Rob and Keith's intent is for a fun gathering. If we can't leave it in that spirit, perhaps it should be called of?
