I made a purchase recently and wanted to share with the group... a Proreck Club 8000 system. This is advertised as an 8000w DJ/PA system. It's not, but that's advertising. It consists of 2 18" subs (1 active, 1 passive) and 6 line-array style tops (3 per side). All this for around $1100 at the time of my purchase.
Why did I buy it? - Well, a friend and fellow dj who's been in the business for a while wanted something for an outdoor block party in our little town and was trying to keep costs low, so he bought two of these systems. They are loud and throw is decent while still providing some bass. I do a small event at a local college in their tailgating area during home football games and wanted some subs to go along with my ETX 15's and ZLX 15's that I normally use for this event. This was a cheaper route than buying another set of ETX's and offered more bass.
The good - They are LOUD. The top 6 array speakers are very loud. The subs are actually pretty decent for what they are. The tops are in plastic housings and the subs are in wood boxes. Both are fairly easy to maneuver by one person. Much easier than my ETX 18's used to be. Also, for the cost, I'm not as gentle with these as I was with my ETX subs lol.
The bad - Due to the volume of the tops, it takes some EQ'ing to make them sound decent. I have to really cut back the highs and mids to get good (to me) sounding audio. I have not used them indoors, but I'd assume similar tactics would need to be applied. They have fairly limited adjustments on the speaker unit itself. It's basically one sub that handles all the input, and then one powercon and a few 1/4" cables to everything else.
All in all, you get what you pay for applies here. For the price, it's not bad. Will it last over time? Time will tell. Would I buy it again? Probably, and I may pick up another set just for random outdoor stuff that I've been doing a lot more of recently. Are they as crisp and powerful as my ETX 15's? Absolutely not. Would it be a good set for a beginner DJ? Maybe, but I think I'd push a new DJ more in the direction of a Rockville Titan array systems or something along those lines..... or just a set of good 15" tops. If you want something different to play with, I think they may be worth it. We'll have 4 or 5 of these systems (8 or 10 subs, each with 3 tops) for a street event in December and I expect it will be neat, but we'll see.
I'd rate them a 6.8 out of 10 at this point.
