Looking to upgrade my PA/Speakers

$400 won't by much new, so if you're looking for speakers in that price range, look for a used set of Yamaha Club 4 or 5s (S115 or C115 .. stay away from the SM and BR lines .. the drivers aren't as robust) or maybe a JBL MPro 215 or 415 (if you find them cheap enough). All sound great, are built like tanks and are used by a lot of folks. What you'll lose is the low end you get with a sub, but if you can't fit it, you can't fit it. You can always add a sub again in the future.

So what type gigs are you attempting to bring inferior sound to? Im not sure where your college is but they dont like any of their music played on speakers that have less bass than their computer systems have. Are you doing freebies and thats why you cant save up? Get a friend with a truck or a wagon/hatchback or something keep the B52s until you can buy a compact top and sub system. Then again maybe you just do frat house parties for beer but they still wont invite you back without some Bump.

what kind of gigs and pay are you going to do? Simple question answered would help in assisting you or go buy the Yamaha's and do your thing. How much are you going to sell the B52's for?

I stated before that I'll be DJing and playing small acoustic acts. I do Open Mics around town so I don't really get paid for most of my gigs. I'll also be DJing house parties around town like once or twice a month. And I'm looking to get around $500 for the B52s

so its not important how they sound for these open mics? When the customers and owners decide you dont have decent sound and find someone else then what will you do with your investment?

You guys act like I want bad speakers. I said I want the best bang for my buck, and I told you my budget. When I said they dont have to be "good" I meant they don't have to be the best. I'm sure the speakers I find within my budget will more than good enough for these small venues I will be playing at. Are you saying that the speakers Steve and I posted are not good enough for a venue like this? Are these bad speakers? Do you not think the owners/customers will be satisfied with the Yamaha club series speakers? Cause thats what it sounds like you're saying.

One thing to consider is that the mixer will fall short in powering said speakers 215 watts RMS is not even close to what the Yamahas need and I think you'll push the mixer harder to get the sound level you would like. But this will actually damage the speakers.

The mixer is 1200 watts

And, if I buy the Yamaha's for a good price like that, I will have enough to get a decent amp.

Bigtan,
I will say this as straightforward as I can. Not being negative just stating the truth. You have a very unrealistic budget for what you are wanting to do. 'nuff said.

I've already found decent speakers, with help from some good feedback in this thread, within my price range. So, I don't know why you keep saying that.

how much are you planning to spend on a proper amp to drive the speakers? Im enjoying my popcorn here. Pyle Pro sells a 2500 watt amp for like 250 dollars. Other cheap imitation knock offs out there claiming oodles of wattage. Just ask em they will tell you what you want to hear.

Good luck I just gave you the cheapest junk and you wont find numbers above that for double that price. Enjoy your journey come back and tell us how it came out.You could likely buy a beater to haul the B52 in and be much better off. Your budget wont match your mouth or your dillusional dream of big power for free.

i hope the watts match my mouth and who ever said anything about big power lol

who's the delusional one?

No helping this one young Luke. The darkside is very strong with him.

People have helped you allo they can and you've proven you've got an attitude mate, your budget is so low you can't get anything decent, listen to Dr. Zinc, he was right, good luck with your foolish, naive quest.
