You could easily utilize your existing mixer into the top of a rack without too much effort. They don't make rack ears for that mixer?

No they don't make them for this particular model..... and there is no way to mount it into say another rack or I could just use the DJ Shuttle I have... but, would still have all kinds of wires (really just 1 Audio, 2 Mic, and 2 Output)

No honestly I think I'd prefer a rack mountable mixer such as the Dennon X500 if I could find one with two mic inputs that have tone, gain and volume controls and XLR connections for both.

I would disagree.....I bet there is. But, it may require tools and I don't want you to lose any limbs. View attachment wack02.gif

What would you have the cords going down? In my setup, you'd move your mics and anything else into the top box. Your USB setup would be mounted permanent in it, along with your computer power too. You'd just drop your output from the top box into the bottom box; one run, two cords.

With my current configuration it wouldn't work.

Computer to HD2500

HD2500 Audio to Dennon X050 Mixer

Dennon Mixer to Outboard Mackie Mixer

Mics to Outboard Mackie Mixer

Mains Out Mackie Mixer to EQ to Crossover to Amp

As you can see I would still need to run from my main rack 2 Mic cables, 1 Audio pair, and USB then back into the rack one set of Mains. Hence why I want a rack mountable mixer with similar capabilities as the external but with a crossfader as well.

Actually what I need is a nice rackmounted mixer so that I don't have to use the external one. Thing is I don't like the mic configurations on most of them as usually there is just one XLR and the other is 1/4" And in some cases there is very little by way of sound shapeing that can be done on the rack mounted mixers. And I don't want to pay an arm and a leg to have that.

I've looked an the Denon X500 which is about the most I want to spend on a mixer but don't like the 1/4" for an aux mic

Use one of these:

Yes Rob, it's expensive but it will work for what you want. Fortunately your are replacing the Denon you have now. I would go with an X-500 which is a 4U model you can hook the MLM42S tp the single XLR input and have 4 MIC channels available. I was not suggesting using the Rane's for music mixing, it was an add on to the DJ mixer of your choice. Yes they are pricey but worth every penny ;)

You are probably correct however, that's a penny I don't have. Someday maybe.... now, definately not.

I have no problem going XLR to 1/4" I have cables for that... what I don't like is going to non-TRS 1/4" I know it's a very short run but I don't like it just the same.

It's different from a XLR to 1/4" cable. It's a transformer. They are inexpensive and work quite well. I have two of them and have used them with 1/4" mic inputs with no problem.

Someone actually USES the crossfader??? :p I've never used that. I prefer manual ups/downs.

Now I've got a 16 ch. Mackie VLZ Pro 1604 mixer custom mounted in my rack. Occasionally we need 12ish channels for events, and this mixer has 16 inputs that have BOTH XLR and TRS, and are each individually adjustable from mic to line level. I've never looked back to my old "DJ" mixers! Not to mention the price - paid <$300 used!

I know that the Rane mixer is top notch no deniing that.

In the end the cost needs to be justified. At this moment a $1K mixer is not justifiable.... in fact I'd have to be certified insane to spend that kind of money no matter how good it may be.

Consider I'm looking at mixers that incorporate as much as what I do now with the combination of my Denon X050 and Mackie DFX 6 and keeping it under $500.... that is where I'm at.
