i think part of your issue may be that you are trying to win. Win what?

you hardly do weddings, yet you are staunchly defending that's its ridiculous for a wedding dj/mc to coordinate with other vendors and verify that they are ready. You think we do it because we believe everyone else is incompetent

I've been reading the different threads without posting as i've been busy with work and neurostimulation therapy, but I must say things have changed here. The thing there are different ways to do almost everything so the"my way or the highway" POV is losing ground. As with medicine there are different ways to achieve the desired result, so, why limit yourself?

Agreed, BUT as with anything there are certain standards of practice that apply that are generally regarded as standard norms. It is standard practice as a wedding DJ to verify that things are in place and ready to go before proceeding to announce said event. This does not mean that you as the Dj have to do it, but merely confirm that things are ready. If they are not you notify the proper people to make sure it's in place

While there are many ways to do weddings, the one constant is that all vendors must work hand in hand and communicate to ensure that all goes well.

Houston is wrong and could not deliver consistent results with his approach. He is not aware of this as he...say it with me...doesn't. do. weddings.

There is nothing wrong with having a different opinion. If Canute believes the best way to mc a wedding is to assume everyone knows what they need to do and when they need to do it, he's free to think that.

Its when he starts telling people that DO MC a wedding that its ridiculous to verify anything..... He'll get people that staunchly disagree

When was the last time you did a wedding, and how many have you done this year.

and it is still unanswered, why ? its not because your in witness protection cause we know you live in Texas or so you say ;) or is it your pleading the 5th. and do not want to incriminate yourself. If weddings are not your thing say so but if you dont do them dont tell the rest of us whats right or wrong. Most here are saying we dont put the silverware on the table we let someone in charge know about it. Little things like that shows the differences between a rookie and a professional.

Mike what are you, a special kind of "stoopid" or something? If I am doing a Wedding and the Client has specifically hired a Planner/Coordinator and the Venue Staff are very competent, why is it my job to go behind them. Do you really think I will start playing a song for the Bride and Groom to Dance if one of them is not in the room? Do I have to also teach you plain common sense? So far MY history and experience has shown me I have not to worry about but my Music and Announcements to be made when cued! I don't know what you experience in your Gigs (Oh BTW since you have been on this board I have NEVER seen ONE Gig report of pictures from you, maybe you are the one who needs to fess up or shut up!) I don't care what you do I am just telling you what I do. I am not asking you to follow me, and i am certainly not going to follow you! Do you think I have survived this business for 30+ years by not knowing what I am doing?

BTW for those who would say my first question is offensive I want for you to tell me how else I can word that question after all I have explained to him. If you are constantly trying to tell someone something and they just don't get it or refuse to get it, then in my mind they may be either ignorant, stupid, an imbecile or even a moron! I really don't know. I am asking him what he is, not saying that he is stupid but I think the chap has bad luck when it comes to using his brain.

No I do not. But how do you keep things on time if there isn't a planner or staff available? Oh yeah, you would get on the mic and ask people to get the Groom. Laughable.

You are dealing with "ifs". I am dealing with real life scenarios. The Events that I do or have attended do not have a specific time line eg. 8.00 for xyz and 9.00 for abc. They do have a sequence which one follows the other. How do you verify something without checking? That is the same as "going behind". I have not been burned as yet. Isn't the Client relying on the DJ to show up? Isn't the DJ relying on his equipment to work without failing? If, if, if, if, if and hypotheticals may be your cause for argument but not mine. I think you need to give it a rest!

You haven't been burned because you. don't. do. weddings.

Do a few and I gaurantee you that

-a venue will tell you they are ready to cut the cake and the utensils have not been set

-you won't have a planner there. Who then dictates when the parent dances are supposed to happen? Or will you jump on the microphone and tell the guests/B&G to round people up

You are not dealing with real life scenarios and anyone who does weddings knows this to be true
