You are beginning to evolve into the annoying category! I am not interested in playing your little games. Have a good day and go read your Wedding Planner Book!

Canute, you know, it's really not the end of the world to say "You're right, I'm wrong." once in a while. You might even find it refreshingly "cleansing". ;)

It's a simple question Houston and directly related to the topic at hand. Your refusal to answer it perfectly, clearly, and concisely illustrates the flaw in your logic and practices (in theory as you do not do weddings) I will not ask you again however as it is clear you aren't willing to answer. Have a nice day sir!

Why do you want for me to deal with the hypothetical? Like I said, I have not had that experience, just as how I have never no showed anyone. The weekend Hurricane Rita hit Texas I drove 75 Miles one way to my Gig. The owner of the Resort where I was playing said he did not expect to see me. I told him Why not? You did not get a call from me that I was not going to make it, did you?

If I had to step in to do someone else's duty it would not be a problem and I will get paid. If the Planner was getting a Professional fee and I had to assume those responsibilities then that fee will also be applied to me. What is so right or wrong about that? Maybe you all like working for free, I don't! I can't take a "Pat on the back" to the bank!

This is why I say you all should let it go .. it's not like talking to a brick wall - it IS talking to a brick wall. Let him be him - that's all he can be anyways. On planet-Canute, things don't seem to work like they do here on Earth.

UN is now sending seven nations to keep peice on this thread. They started with 8 nations but Texas backed out:)

Come on guys, everyone who is a good human being, much less a proffesional in what they do, once at a wedding, would do everything in thier power to insure the bride and groom have a day to remember. I don't know of anyone I have ever met that did not have to kiss a little butt at one time or another or hold thier tongue and get-er-done.

You guys stop saying the same thing over and over. I read the Bible faster last time than I can read this post!

Houston believes it is not his job to facilitate or coordinate with other vendors and it's his right. We who do weddings know that it is an integral part of what we do and a critical element to the overall success of the event. He is basing this on observation as he does not actively do weddings. There is a saying that people who can, do, and those who can't teach. I submit we add "Professor" to Houston's moniker! All those in favor say I ;)

You are not on my "Ignore List" so I will respond to your question. "It is none of your damn business!" Stay with the conversation. If you were a student at Harvard Business School, would you discredit the Professor what he is teaching you because he does not have an operating business? What I do know is that the Weddings that I have done and will do will look nothing like yours! It is no wonder some of you only post mainly pics of people dancing. You don't even have a belief in yourselves as a DJ.

Bring up some ridiculous comparison about a professor and the pictures we take?
And you're telling US to stay with the conversation????

BTW, I would expect that my professor to have A LOT of experience in the field he is teaching.
And if he did nothing but spout HIS opinion as the only truth...I would DEMAND it!
Otherwise he is only sharing knowledge that he taught by someone else, and did not learn on his own.

I choose to answer even though it was a deflection:

Yes, I would - no real working experience and nothing to draw knowledge from. If he did have an operating business, there still may only be a few areas of his specific experience that I may be able to use / relate to. Each business may do and experience something different - even if they provide the same service.

What I do know is that the Weddings that I have done and will do will look nothing like yours! It is no wonder some of you only post mainly pics of people dancing. You don't even have a belief in yourselves as a DJ.

You have no idea what Mike's weddings look like. You also have no idea what he does or does not believe in.

I'm beginning to think all of this drama and conflict is a reflection of one's own faults - like a school bully that pokes at everyone else to cover up his own faults and flaws.

He's never had an event go awry, so he's probably never been wrong.

Rick's admitted he was wrong before. I can't recall Houston doing so.
Can you tell me exactly what I am wrong about or have to admit I am wrong about in this thread?

Darn it guy! You should keep quiet. Remember, never confuse education with intelligence. If you need for me to explain that to you I would be happy to do so.

you are wrong in thinking its not part of your responsibility to work with and coordinate with other vendors to facilitate the tempo and flow of the evening

you are wrong in thinking its perfectly acceptable to get on the mic at someone's wedding and ask that someone find the groom and let him know its time for cake cutting

you are simply wrong and if you actually did weddings you would realize the fallacy of your theoretical musings

You preach from a pulpit of ideology based on what you think weddings should be rather than draw from the deep rich well of experience that many of us on this board have tasted. You my friend are the "professor" your superpower being the ability to deflect and throw around idyllic musings without any basis drawn from real experience. Well played sir. Well played

ROFLMFAO! I guess I should have told the Planner to go home that I would do it. I guess I should have told the MC to forget the Mic and just........awww never mind...why am I indulging in this nonesense! You seem to have an inherent ability to embrace stupidity!

BTW it is not my job to see that the "Venue has the silverware and plates in place when it's time to cut the cake", what in the Hell does that have to do with playing music?

I believe this to be wrong. At least around here, we mc the whole evening. We make sure that everything is ready for the next formality. If there is a wedding planner, I'll still make sure it's done.

In my opinion, Playing music is jut a part of my job at a wedding. Even if its someone else's responsibility to have that done, the entire flow of the evening will seem awkward while they are standing around the cake, people taking pictures, yet nothing can happen because there is no knife and plate.

The same goes for every formality. I believe it's my job to let the FOB know when his dance is coming up, usually more than once. Having the bride standing in the middle of the floor with her dad in the bathroom ain't going to work

If the wedding planner has done her job, then great....it just takes a second to verify it.

You don't count on a venue. You make sure they have everything you need to be successful. Most successful wedding djs don't count on wedding planners either.

Its also important to note that less than 5% of the weddings we do have wedding planners for the reception. It may be because that we let people know that we'll be happy to coordinate everything at the reception.

if I saw a video of a bride and groom standing around the cake waiting for silverware, I'd blame the DJ

maybe thing are different in Texas
