School & Teen Events Any thoughts on these? I found another potential speaker system for me.

Paul Richkus joined in June 2010 but has been in the biz alot of yrs I believe thats the long time which he was referring. Number of posts or join date here has nothing to do with that. Quality of posts might. His point is accurate. I have a box of tissue if needed.
Thanks for your thoughtfulness Jon. By coming to his defense, it adds more credibility than him tooting his own horn. You are absolutely correct, a person's professional and technical experience and ability precedes any amount of posts they may have on this board. Of all the "so called" DJs on this Forum, I would venture to say that it is only a small percentage who have real Technical Experience or training. Some have never even picked up a soldering iron let alone even know how to use a multimeter.

As a Mod, I applaud you for sticking up for one of the members.

I joined in 2006 and have oodles of years under my belt; does that give me the right to "haze" (does that equate to toolery?).Please...can I hang with the big dogs?

Good thing posts don't count (what was your total again?)

Don't start on my so early in the morning Mr. Le Blanc. I have not finished my first cup o' coffee yet and am still cranky. :triwink: It is not hazing that was given to the OP, just a dose of stark reality. I for one did not take too kindly of his mentality of wanting to go in and "Low ball". This is the kind of practice that brings down the Industry.

The Large shows, Gyms etc are no place for wannabees or the inexperienced. This guy needs to learn first and thats what we were trying to impress upon him. We are all adults here, if people can't take the criticism then they need to grow up. It isn't a place just to post pretty Wedding pics and expect a pat on the back.

Coming on here and asking about a line array system for school functions is just plain silly. If you need to fill an arena, you contract out a company that knows what the hell their doing.

If your gonna hang with the big dogs on ODJT, expect a little hazing from the longtimers. Especially when you ask ridiculous questions like you did. Consider it part of the price of admission.

Apparently no one understands to concept of "let this thread die".

I'm sorry i didnt think hazing was actually allowed on any forum? i was actually under the impression that mods and admins were supposed to curb that ****...

Just a thought...

How is what im doing low balling? im attempting to put on a similar show that schools can actually afford. I know for one that LTHS is running out of money for boom really fast. It wont take long before noo schools can afford them anymore, and if there is someone out there with a show LIKE what boom put on for a smaller price tag, that is what the schools will go with. Its not low balling, is being a smart business man.

Right now they are paying it so that means they can afford it. Going in with the same for less to me is Low Balling. Someone has already set the standard on pricing, why try and undermine it?

lol i actually know how to use both of those. i took a basic electricians class in college. :D
I was not referring to you on this issue. There are lots on here that will tell you the reason they used powered speakers is because they don't know how to hook up a conventional system with amps etc. How sad!

lol agreed that is sad. i know you weren't referring to me. but i saw that post and i was like. i know dat S**t. lmao.

i suppose I see what you are saying. i just look at it like. when the money runs out I want to be there to take over the schools that can't afford it anymore. im not going to claim that I have the same show as boom, i just want to be able to give the kids a good time.

maybe they're screwing them and the school simply doesn't realize they can get the same thing for a tad less. Do all plumbers, electricians. lawyers charge exactly the same rate?

Griff keep us posted with the progress I love the line array idea to compete.

Line arrays.......I've got a pair in my livingroom. Nothing else comes close. 72 silk dome tweeters, 36 kevlar mids, and 4 18" woofers. For an idea of scale, the TV is a 65". The mid/tweeter towers are 7 feet tall. Here's a pic:

No but close to... Those who have the confidence in themselves and in what they do/can do, see no problem asking for big dollars. Those who will do anything just to get the business start at the bottom. Again, it is very easy to tell the serious from those who really are not serious. Look at the money.

I'm with ya Steve.

It's called "competition" in a "free market." Just because Joe Blow charges XYZ, maybe Suzy Creamcheese has figured out how to offer the same kind of service(s) at a cost of XY. People who feel that they are at the top of their game and start complaining about losing business to others that may have a more efficient, leaner business model and they can come in and take business away from the lazy fat-cat(s) who only want to blame others for their lack of success.

So what's "close to"......There are lawyers that charge 125 per hour....some $350.00 - are the $125.00 lawyers all scum sucking lowballers?

Your arguments have no validity...In fact you're sounding more and more like a worther.

Perhaps your kin have so much confidence in themselves that they see no problem in overcharging and ripping people off?

I think your issue is simply losing the gig to someone who charges less than you; does a better job than you, with better equipment......

I think I know your definition of "close to"...The Bose AWM is "close to" professional gear.....right?
It is just as professional as your laptop that you bought off the shelf at WalMart! LOLOL:tribiggrin:
