Can't call me the lone ranger in that regard.DJRox : Way too broad a statement.
The operative word is "Sometimes".Sometimes doesn't the tool enhance the quality of the job?
Tools can, but do not necessarily, enhance the results. I've been the victim of absolutely horrendous performances from entertainers with very high quality gear. Low quality gear is also no guarantee of a shoddy performance, but is a relatively safe indicator.
No. Do you still drive a horse and buggy? Are you still using nothing but records?

My beach/sand gear runs on BS power so I just breathe quietly into the converter.Does the noise level of the generator for the on-the-beach-front wedding ceremony factor in as long as they can hear the music?
Quality gear, played loudly, will not generate that side effect if managed properly.Does the post-event ear ringing matter as long as the event was fine?
Way to broad a criteria. Is there an echo in here? Anyways, as a responsible consumer, I'd use each of those observation as a component in my decision making process. Those vehicles will likely never appear at the site when the actual crew arrives.A fella comes to give me a quote on a roof replacement. One drives a rusted out pickup. One drives a newer club cab truck but is dirty, has papers strewn everywhere. Another has a late model van, spotless, organized, and says I'm a pro. It's just a truck. It will haul everything to and from. The truck is just a tool. I am paying more attention to what the last guy is saying. It's part of the impression, even if they were all Mercedes.
Now, if one of those trucks parked on my lawn, I'd certainly use that as a deciding factor.
I decided long ago to devote as little attention as possible to public mis-perceptions. Can't make a die-hard Ford guy drive a Chevy Silverado. The choice of available tools is a mark of the business and performance choices any business make and a reflection of the owner/performer. Public perception goes a long way in that equation as well.
In 20 + years, possibly because I luckily and fortuitously learned early on to use and benefit from high/professional quality gear, I have never lost a desirable client because of the logo on my equipment. It has really only ever mattered to me and my desire to have the tools to perform as I see fit.Tool choices do make a difference, if a business person wants them to. Not, if they don't.
