Both questions are too ambiguous because neither one requires a basis in reality. For example #1,) only requires us to imagine how we would make more money. Question #2.) again, presumes that making something easier only begets a positive outcome. Rather, I would consider:

1. Do I have a current booking that requires this and is ownership even necessary or wise? (Production)
2. Am I faced with a circumstance that can only be resolved with this item? (Problem solving)

Neither question should be based on imaginary outcomes. What is the lost opportunity cost? For that we can look to the credit card thread and realize what ineffective purchasing can do to our depth of resources as it also derails the imaginary benefits we presumed to justify the purchase.

I your example one could just rent whatever gear is necessary for a one off gig.

In Mixes example will a new sub make him for money? very doubtful. Will it make his job easier? Absolutely not he can’t move it alone so he will have to rely on friends or pay a roadie to assist him


My example would let say I have a perfectly good set of speakers, 10 in tops over 15 inch subs older but heavy, I could purchase a new compact line array the would work perfectly for 90% of my gigs “remember most of us at DJ’s not sound and audio reinforcement rental companies like yourself”
They would make my job easier less weight easier faster set ups less space required in the vehicle

The point was, don't spend money you haven't earned yet.
(spend it on GETTING gigs)

And judging by your recent gig logs, you work in rooms that don't require a sub to "do it right".

How many subs do you own?

I have two small subs, and only need to use them a few times a year.
