Just so you'll know this partner fixed my best friends wife's computer. Her problem was it had Windows Vista as it's operating system and that's why it was not working right. So he clearly know what he's doing. Now as for my PC was told that the reason the built in card reader stopped working is because the mother board needed to be changed. So I've decided to let him fix it when I get the money.

I bought a Lenovo Y550 when they first came out, I think it was about 4, maybe 5 years ago. While mechanically it worked alright. It felt like it was made of cheap plastic and not very sturdy. When I had to open it the 2nd time to fix the same hinge problem I gave it to my son and bought an HP, since then I have purchased a Dell as my backup. That Y550 has put a bad taste in my mouth for Lenovo. They may have improved since that purchase, but would still be one of the last brand names I would look at. Just my opinion. YMMV.

You say that people should only go with Pro DJs so why not do what you preach. You knw why would you start to listen now. You d everything half assed and then wonder why no one wants to pay you good money to do a gig. Let me tell you why you act and sound like a 2 dollar DJ so that is all you will ever be worth.

Why would Vista be a problem -- other than it was a bit much for most users to handle the new interface...?

I wrote Rockit on a Vista machine, and it works fine on XP, Vista, Win7 and Win8.


BTW, what exactly is wrong with your card reader? Have you tried uninstalling, and reinstalling the drivers?

Her problem is NOT Windows Vista, the OS. That sounds like an excuse for finding the issue. I've also never heard of a card reader not working because of a 'bad' motherboard.

I've been using a Vista machine for over 5 years as my primary gig machine with no issues whatsoever. I bought the machine in late 2007 and I only had it a week when it slipped off my shoulder and the hard drive died from the impact. I got another one and reinstalled Vista and it's been running well since. I used it as a backup the first year and put it in to full action sometime in 2009. It's done over 200 gigs now and although I shouldn't do it I've been on the net with it on occasion.

I've done alot of work on computers and the main problem I found with Vista is user error. Either the user cant handle the interface or they install a whole bunch of s**t on it that never should be there and blame the OS for their problems

Your partner is the 'pro tech' at Micro Center (if there's such a thing)? Also, if you believe that Vista was / is the problem, I have a bridge that you might be interested in purchasing.

A person 'fixing' a machine by reinstalling the OS isn't fixing it. The easiest thing in the world to do is blow it away and reinstall it. Also, if Vista was the problem, what was your partners (the 'pro tech') resolution? Reinstalling with what OS?

Highly doubt this was a Windows Vista problem. Also, a Verizon Tech is not there to resolve problems unrelated to their software and / or hardware - so this means nothing.

Trust me this guy knows his stuff. The Verizon tech couldn't figure out why she couldn't get online and he got it working fully. That's the big point! Like I said he doesn't work for Micro Center. That was one of their techs that told me what was wrong with my PC.

Now let's get off that subject since she hasn't had a complaint since he worked on her computer. I decided the first thing I need to buy is that DJ chair to help with my back issue and then decide what else I need to buy.

While I agree with you that the machine may now be used successfully, it doesn't sound - from what you say happened - like he fixed it. Reinstalling an OS and claiming the OS was bad - is not a resolution, it's a work around - which has the possibility of bringing future problems all on its own. It's an easy solution to a problem you cannot / don't want to fix.

Like I said he doesn't work for Micro Center. That was one of their techs that told me what was wrong with my PC.

If one of the Tech's at Micro Center told you that your motherboard is bad, because the card reader is not working, I would be taking it to another shop.
