Advice on what lights to get

I dj mostly school dances and I'm trying to choose a light/laser that is bright and covers a large area (gym size--jr high/high school) and would look good without haze/fog. The lasers in question are the Scorpion, Scorpion RGX, Galaxian, Galaxian 3D; as for the lights they are either the ADJ Tri or Quad phase. I'm looking into getting a laser and/or a light to add to the lights I already use (2 color strips, Revo III, Double Derby, Mushroom, Color Pod 250--which dies half way into the dance--thus adding on). All lights are run non dmx and on sound active controled by a copilot.

With that said and from the list above, which laser and light would best fill the gym and is bright?
Are the Tri phase and Quad phase almost the same light if I were to purchase both--thus a bad idea?

Your help is appreciated.
 
I'm not too sure, seeing as I haven't used any of these lights, but just remember, lasers pointing down into a crowd is a no-no.

I know pointing it down is a no-no; I will be shooting at a wall or ceiling--thanks anyways.

Laser is a big question mark for me--that is why I'm asking in this forum. I am leaning toward either the tri phase or quad.
 
Being the owner of a Chauvet Eclipse (very similiar to a Galaxian), I'll say this. We've used the Eclipse before in an old theater (extremely high ceiling) and it actually created a "ceiling" per se at the event instead of having this massive black void above.

So if you do have high and dark ceilings, then maybe something like a Galaxian or Eclipse would be good to help at creating the right atmosphere. Just a thought.

Ceiling is high but white not black and not even--so it will be pointed at a wall which is also white.

West coast USA; looking to get one or two lights depending on coverage, brightness, and cost. If the laser doesn't pan out than one, maybe two lights under $500. Bliss light is out of my range right now.

Abby, I know you have purchased the galaxian 3D--how do you like it?

We should be able to get you a couple lights under $500 no problem... oh, and there are Blisslights you can get for under $500 too. :)

Thanks, but I just recently purchased three lights for under $500--quad phase and 2 revo scans.
 
I just did my first event with my Eclipse, along with all the other lights I received this week (Colorstrip, Mayhem, and Quadphase) and man is the Eclipse effect cool. It covered a VERY big ceiling in the room I was in. The blue cloud effect was only visible over part of it, but the lasers went from wall to wall. The room held about 300 people.

I got alot of comments about the Eclipse, and I saw alot of people looking and pointing.

Just did two events this weekend with the quad phase and it worked great and was bright enough--awsome light. However, my two color scans weren't used due to the fact that once I placed them on the botton truss they would tilt downward eventhough I had tightened them as tight as possible. To correct this I'm going to have to move some lights around so I can place them on the top truss bar so if they do tilt downward the bars between the top and bottom truss will stop them from tilting further.

What sold you on the eclipse? How bright is the mayhem campared to the quad that you used? Did you use dmx or just sound active on the mayhem?
