Hello everyone... Well I am new here and also just gettin' into Computer DJ'in and just now starting to build me a mobil set-up. I mean I had my share of tables and mixers and what not. I have gone as far as even useing my car at a car show as a sound system for my tables. Witch here in Texas you see quite a bitt. So as of right now all I have is two Numark mixers and some JBL stuff laying around. Saddly I got a busted Tech1200 but oh well...

I noticed that Computer DJ'ing is the way to go now. I have been looking into a few things. Right now I have VDJ 5. I have been playing with it and without a interfacing unit it's kinda hard to use it to it's max with a mouse...lol I have looked at the Hercules RMX... other then that I have been looking at the Numark stuff... I saw that you guys had some opinions on both but I never noticed anyone.... compairing the two... Any wish to lighten me on this? Oh yeah been drooling over the Denon unit as well.....

We have a Denon 2500 here that finally made it out of the warehouse this past weekend and its a pretty nice unit. I don't know anything about Hercules or the Numark controller products.

Thank you for the welcome bro... Yeah the Denon unit is so nice, but I have been looking into the issue of re-mapping the unit to be able to use it with other software and what not. The down side I have heard was not all the fucntions work with some software.... What software are you runnin' if you don't mind me asking...
 
I use serato typically with Pioneer CDJ's we have 15 guys here and all of our house equipment is serato/pioneer combos (pics all over odjt)
however I bought this 2500 last year as a back up, was going to sell it than rather than mapping it I figured out i could burn the timecode cd to mp3 and put it on the Denon and use Serato and trick it into thinking it was a cd player thus achieving serato with a back up.

which evidently youd get the exact same thing if you mapped it..The internal hard drive though gives it an edge over other controllers and the effects when playing internal songs are crisp

As for insight between the 2 i unfortunately do not have any for you :( I was in the same debacle as you about a month ago now and i read what i could and tried out what the local shops had to offer but when it came down to it the RMX had what I was looking for being a USB Powered mixer/MIDI Device with a sound card built in. what are the benny's of having the sound card well no need for additional sound cards for monitoring and output and as for the 1/4 outputs they are solid and sound superb now only if i could get my mixes to sound better i wouldn't have a problem haha :sqlaugh:

Serato, I never used it personaly, but I have seen it and have a friend that is playing with it. I kinda look into units that I can use with VDJ, with very little mapping. I think with the Denon it is going to be a fun long project for me. That is why I am looking at the RMX.

I wish I had the chance to hit a local shop but where I live the music stores only have two patch cords, some RCAs, a cheap mic, three drum sticks and a used Bass....lol So yeah no luck there...lol

I use VDJ but I would like to know what everyone is useing for a set up... What software, controller, if you mapped or not. and the ups and downs you have found?
 
here is my set up

Computer: GIG box 2.4ghz quad core
OS: XP SP3
MEM: 4gb 800mhz
HD: 2 - 500GB WD 7200RPM SATAII
17" LCD Monitor

DJ Software - VDJPro
Controller 1 - RMX - no mapping needed packaged with VDJ console edition but layered with pro works perfect.
Controller 2 - M-Audio Trigger Finger - I mapped this little gem to all the effects in VDJ
Studio sound - Alesis Active MKII - I love these things

As for when I play out I am a club DJ so I have no need to haul around sound.

Right on that is what I am talking about.. I also DJ at clubs here and there so sound is not needed but I do have some here at my in house studio that I have built for fun. I mean have once or twice drug everything out to a few weddings, house parties, and car shows. Other then that, I normally team up with the local radio station to stay away from bringing out my stuff....

Nice to hear that the RMX don't need any Mapping, I have also heard that the Numark units don't have to be mapped but I also noticed that they have settings in the config menu in VDJ. So you use the Alesie MKII for you active sound card? Do you have to cuz I noticed that you said you love those things...lol And if I am wrong please let me know... But you don't need the sound cards for the RMX right?
 
The RMX has a built in sound card which has multiple outs it has RCA and 1/4 inch along with 2 headphone ports so you dont need an additional sound card to monitor your cue'd track. I run my Alesis MKII's out the 1/4 inch output. The Alesis MKII active monitors are just powered monitors not a sound card so here is a pic below.

Right on nice set up... Clean and simple. I mostly have just a mixer and a little system to work on at the club I use their sorry use of a sound card. I don't even know what it is. I installed the CD and it seems to still be missing a driver or something cuz Cue'ing don't work. Luckly I know my music well e-nuff to work from my eyes...lol Other then that... I really want to upgrade my contorller...

There are many options in the marketplace to choose from. Before going laptop you might want to check out the Cortex-HDC 1000. It rocks!

I have not looked at the Cortex HDC 1000. What are the benfit of that unit? What software are you useing and was there any mapping?

Numark Total Control works great... Not the best but does a pretty darn good job

Didn't know that Traktor supports up to 4 decks. I am going to have to look into that software... Did you have to map the numark to use it with Traktor?

It's a digital music controller that can use up to 3 external USB devices. Check it out at cortex-pro.com

Oh so the Cortex isn't a software controller it's just a Jukebox type of unit... Conect to a HD from the usb and on the way you go right?? I'm like the idea but I am more into looking into a controller for some software. Thank you tho...

Yes I did map the numark total control... Was not happy with default tks file I was given... Took a bit of time... but totally worth it...
