I know there was an "Is The Tux Dead" thread, but ...

I know this will be a controversial subject. I only throw it out to get opinion.

I am thinking about putting the tux aside for "formal" events and switching to business suit. I find that business suits are easier to change into and easier to work with. I am also noticing a trend away from the tux as a formal option.

Now, for the more controversial part...

To ensure that the client really wants us in a tux, I am thinking about making it an additional charge.
 
I don't own a tux. ::bats eyes:: However, I have seen other female DJs who wear tuxes. It's not my cup of tea. If I had to do formal, I'd do a ballgown of some sort. Of course, for a high-class affair, I'd be charging more anyway, so that additional cost of getting "dressed to the nines" would be covered.

This is just personal preference. I am more comfortable in a suit than in a tux.
 
I hate the nickle and dimeing that some do....

I give my clients the choice for my attire....

If you charge for a tux because you think it is harder to wear, do you give them a deal when they say just wear a shirt and pants because it is easier?

I was just asking for opinions.

Now Chuck, you are the "odd" man in that you are in Hawaii and tropical attire might be expected. But, how many formal events do you do in a tux, suit, or something lighter?

If you decided that the tux was now passe, would you just make the shift to something else and not even say anything?

In regard to buisness suit, I was thinking of something like black, dark blue, or gray.
 
Entertainers who wear a tux, boggle my mind :sqconfused:

It speaks volumes about your originality, and what you bring to the table (or dance floor). E.g., nothing new.

It's like wearing a uniform to Catholic school, or joining the army -- you become simply a number, a borg, a waiter, a soldier, <add yours here>.


Elvis would of been pretty boring in a penguin suit -- are you boring...?

1. Yes (I would charge)
2. I don't own a Tux

I have my views on the matter clearly posted in the FAQ section of my website. Not one time in my 18 years of service did I or was I asked to wear a Tux.

First I hear Rick referred to as "genius" level in one thread he's in the I hear him (and me) called stupid in another. Rick, I guess we're just too smart for Chuck; he thinks we're stupid.
 
tee hee..... ok,,, just wanted to play.... I wasn't directing my nickle and dime comments at anyone, just the what seems to be a new deal where some are even charging for MCing....

I mean to me MCing, wireless mics, tuxs whatever are all part of the job. I think if DJs start doing that people will see it for what it is, just another way someone is trying to gouge them.

Just charge a price that you feel personally covers everything... and by "you" I mean all DJs.

My contract says "our standard attire is a black suit, white shirt and musical theme tie"
If you wish any other attire, please specify

I havent had a tux request yet
I do own a few
back when I was being mentored, it was required wear
they no longer fit me
anyone interested in a size 38 tux? lol, I've "expanded"
 
haha, I wore a short sleeved dress shirt and slacks and dress shoes at my Saturday Wedding. I didnt down charge for being able to relax but on the other hand, I didnt upcharge for a horrendous side entry grassy knoll, rough pathway to the backyard on the edge of the lake either. However it was my highest paid event on record. To top it off was given a 200 dollar tip as well.

Sorry Tom I own armani style suits but never wear a tie.

Charge for the Tux. One more thing I'll have over anyone who does.:sqwink: What next, you going to ask them "boxers or brief"? Should you charge for boxers? How much if you wear deodorant. Hey, while you're at it throw in some breath mint into that package.

I wonder what the women would charge extra for? I guess the days of "around the world" are over.:sqfrown:
