The Tux

I can do my job without a tux, and I have always done my job without a tux; therefore, if I am asked to wear a tux for client Z's (pronounced, "Zeds") party, I think that it is unfair to clients A-Y to have paid the same amount for not making me rent or buy a tux.

Don't forget that I move...I mean really move...while I DJ. Maybe when I switch to a lap top with an automatic selecting and mixing programme I can feel comfortable in a tux.



So, I would charge extra.

The same idea goes for my wireless mic; however, since my last brilliant discussion about that, I have LOWERED my prices and INCLUDED the wireless mic (I give a discount, however, to those who are happy with my wired mic--perhaps I would do the same if the DJ tux came in demand in good 'ol Abbotsford country).

The responses that I get from this serious post shall determine how stupid or not the rest of my posts in this thread will be.

Ditto: Only ONE request for a Tuxedo in 20 years, and it was for a BACKYARD event! I just laughed at 'em and moved on. (always another bride coming, like those Boston trolleys!)

It speaks volumes about your originality, and what you bring to the table (or dance floor). E.g., nothing new.

It's like wearing a uniform to Catholic school, or joining the army -- you become simply a number, a borg, a waiter, a soldier, <add yours here>.

Not at all Zac...

That was their costume (or a sharp suit), much like Jimmy Buffet has his, Elvis had his, and so on.

If I go down the street to Anthony's Pier Nine, and look in a few rooms on a Saturday, I see waiters in tuxes, DJ's in tuxes -- and they all look alike :sqerr:

When I switched my DJ name to Captain Rick back in the early 90's, I lost the suits, and went with the island sorta look. It became a trademark, and people expected me to dress the way I did, and many hired me for just that reason.

IMHO, there is very little originality and/or imagination, in the mobile DJ market these days. Almost everybody wears a tux or black suit, almost everybody has a black facade or table cloth -- to me, it's boring...

If I went back on stage right now, you'd more than likely see me in some weird sequined outfit, or something that totally sets me apart from the rest. You would also see my rather long hair

I firmly believe in branding, which means you find something that fits your style, and stick with it for some time. It becomes your identity...

I have 3 styles of tux, 2 styles of foraml shirt, and a nice business suit.

I set up in socks and boxer shorts then ask the banquet manager which outfit they think will work best.
