Very odd computer question here...

Ok, here is the situation:

I had a set up on my main tv which consisted of my 1tb hd running through an old laptop, then into my TV via the s-video output on the lapop. The sound was coming right out of the headphone jack and into my stereo.

Well, the laptop finally died (is was on it's last legs anyway, lol).

Now, I want to know if there is a way I can hook the hard drive drirectly into the TV without having to run it through a computer. I really don't want to have to buy another laptop since I am looking at buying a desktop for the office.
 
nope sorry it cant be done.....

get a small multimedia systemn or another laptop...
 
Dennis, I can not find a desktop that has an s-video out on it that is under a grand.

I would buy a desktop for the living room and just not worry about putting it in the office if I could find one that has EVERYTHING I want on it for a good price (don't want to say cheap). But by the time you add everything I would need to have on it, it just runs way to high.

I guess I will just look around for a used laptop that has the s-video out on it.
 
the video card that you install should have one in it
I can buy a heap from ebay....

its easy to add a s-vieeo agp card to a old desktop!
 
So essentially if I pick up an old desktop with the right memory requirements for the video card, I can just intall the card and I should be good to go?
 
Yes you have to make sure that a AGP card has the s-video out!
 
Sir Charles, you wouldn't happen to have one of those old desktops lying around your basement would you? (hint hint, hahahaha)
 
The laptop I'm typing on now has a S-Video out. You can buy 'em on E-Bay for under $400 (sometimes well under).

If I'm not mistake there are USB video adapters for NTSC (Standard TV). Here's a firewire version for the Mac -

If you look around I'm sure you can find a USB or PCMCIA card that will do what you want. The easiest though is to set up a desktop/media machine for the task. There are dozens if not hundreds of cheap cards that will do what you want.

Nope, I cleaned house last year and got rid of a lot of the old boat anchors...lol

I do however know where you may be able to pick up (for less than two C notes I might add) one of the most reliable machines I ever upgraded and used for DJing though - PM me!
