I'm thinking the banner might be some kind of trade-off for services. Just speculating as I don't know the facts. Owner of said venue calls us on Monday asking if we were available on Tuesday night to do a wake/celebration of life for the venue manager as her mom died. Ok, we figured an easy gig and it was a Tuesday night, so we discounted our regular rates by 20% and waived our 4 hour minimum as they needed only 3 hours. Needless to say we touch bases with them after giving the quote and were told "we've already found someone." (Cheaper or for free?) ;) I'm guessing these guys were hungry enough to either give it away or work for peanuts in trade for displaying the banner in front of the building. Which in my "opinion" makes it look like they are the "house DJs" for the venue.

Is there room to park your vehicle there?

Nope.


Ask the owner if you can cover the sign while you are DJing there.

If it's still there in October, I definitely will.

I know the feeling i had when one of my competitors that has a photo booth was hired to do the photo booth in the same room i was DJing in and he had his DJ business cards there on the photo booth table.

I would not pass on the oppurtunity to DJ at the venue because of the banner.

Nah, the banner is the least of my worries at this place.

I'm just waiting to see what they do when they are informed that I will not utilize their preset tables. :moneek:

They have 2 tables, skirted and set in a "L" shape in a corner and expect everyone to have the same equipment and to fit into that "corner". Last time we were in there, I insisted that one of the tables be removed so I could squeeze my gear in the area. With our current setup I have no need or desire for the "traditional table setup" or for their unorthodox setup.

The request cards were genius simple marketing. We used to use them years ago too I'm not sure why I ever stopped
 
I'm really surprised that no-one (so far) has taken the position of blacklisting the venue and not working there again. I have underestimated my radical ODJT brethren.

I think the problem was my Sky-Blue-Pink crayon broke ')

As silly as it sounds you are sort of right Kirby I ran out and it became one of those to do things that never got done
 
We stopped utilizing them when we finally went digital. Now I just search for what I need and put it in the queue and then decide whether it gets played or deleted from the list. :D
 
It's so much easier than the old days that way for sure. I'm thinking from more of a marketing aspect it might be worth while to go that route again.

We just used the perforated sheets that you print business cards on when we were still utilizing them. Or you could just have Val whip you up a bunch of them at her shop.

I'd bring a sheet with me to cover the banner, but I wouldn't put up my own at a wedding. I only use a banner at bar gigs. As far as the space goes... I've been in this situation a few times. I simply tell the venue that I need more room via my contract with the customer. If they can't accomodate me, I say "I'll let the customer know the venue manager will not abide by the contact requirments, and I'll send the bride to you to deal with it". This has always worked for me... YMMD.

Some are not like you and I, Tyrone. They view what you are suggesting as "rocking the boat". They are also afraid to be blacklisted by the venue. LOL Therefore they do as they are told and work with what is given them. This just perpetuates the problem down the line.

I'm guessing the venue didn't think it through and just saw it as a way to either make money (sell the ad space) or get services at a discount (same net effect). I would guess you could make the same deal if you want.

It appears most every thread there is condescending undertones Canute. Punch people in their already blackened eye and you might get it back. Just sayin.
