Mix, you jump around more than a Mexican Jumping bean ..

First, we don't talk about other boards here, especially DJ ones.

Second, take the time and FINISH the business plan before you worry about brochures, tablet apps and such. As for business cards, you can get a few hundred made for less than $20 at VistaPrint.com .. do that while you finish the plan.

Without knowing what you are going to do .. step by step .. why bother paying someone to make a brochure for it .. it's a moving target.
Sorry for talking about another DJ forum on here. He asked a question and I should have just stated he is another DJ rather then mention him that way on here. Now please trust me Steve that tablet needs to be revamped. Some things on there are OK and other things need to be replaced as they will make us look bad at a meeting with a potential client. Pictures of a backyard party with nobody dancing isn't a great selling point. Plus there is a video that was added at the class reunion we did with my partner screaming into his girl friends Iphone looking and sounding crazy. The one I took is much better business wise. It just shows the people dancing having a great time while listening to Donna Summers Last Dance. That was the last song which worked out perfectly! That was the one song they danced to as they were mainly just there to listen to some music and catch up with what was going on with old friends they probably hadn't seen in 20-30 years or more.

Now the brochure thing was just something in my head and thanks for your ideal that it needs to get a certain clients attention. So if I want to get more brides to book us it needs to show us featuring us doing weddings. So I'll hold off on that for that reason.

You want to take your time with it????? How much time do you think you have left DJing?
I say if I live that long another 10 year or so.

I say at least another 10 years provided I live that long. I have a friend who just turned 63 and still doing it. He's just smart enough to pick the types of gigs he knows he's good at doing. Not spreading himself too thin.

Oh Mix by the way the REAL Founder of that other board isnt SID!!

so get your facts straight first

have a nice day

As for a business plan I'll say I'm working on it and wanted to take my time. I don't want to rush and do things. Also I don't want to throw all my ideals out here at once for fear of getting beat up on here. I'll throw just a few ideals out here for now and if you have some good suggestions please by all means chime in.

I agree with Steve - you jump around more than a mexican jumping bean. A business plan needs to be in place to run a business .. this should be done BEFORE you do anything else. This is not a "when I get it done, I'll get it done" thing. A business plan is not about how much equipment you have or buy. It's a plan for the business and operations of it. Without this, you have nothing. A failure to plan is a plan to fail .. and .. if you cannot focus and commit to a business plan, for your business, how can you expect others (clients, vendors, friends and family) to take you seriously?

None of this matters without a business plan. Operating without a business plan is like buying a car without a motor and wheels. Would you do that? Without a motor and wheels, do you think people care what color you want to paint it?

When I get back I'll have to look for the thread where someone posted a business plan. To be honest I really never took a look at it and yes I am right now all over the place. A lot is going on in my personal life. That's with my mom being sick and me finding out today from the last MRI I had done my condition has gotten worse. Not to mention other things. Right now what's on the books is we have a block party to do on June 29th and the following Saturday we have a backyard party to do for the same lady that we did her grand daughters sweet 16. She liked what we did so much that she wanted us back again and is paying us even more to do this one.

She wants house/disco music along with classic soul. Real easy gig for us. It will be a lot of fun. The beauty with this client is that she isn't looking for the cheapest DJ she can find because trust me around here she can easily find someone willing to do it for much less.

There will always be a reason to not do something. Each of us have very busy lives too. You have to make time for it. You have to make yourself sit down and do it. It really is as simple as that. If you can't accomplish this task, then you've already answered any questions you may have about your future.

Mix again. I say just keep doing what you are doing. Backyard parties and cheap weddings with the bar thrown in from time to time. It is the best thing for you. Just please stop posting about all these things you are going to do because they will never get done. You just said it yourself your health is not that great and you do not need to try to be something you are not.

Jimmy please hear me out. When I mentioned about watching out forthe types of events you do. That was meant as a whole. There are those who will take a gig to just to say they did a gig and made some money. I like to do gigs that I feel comfortable with and that I feel we will be safe doing them.

Now things are in the works as far as planning to get some things done. Some things cost money that I want done and quite a bit at that. So some things will take time. We have a couple events coming up on back to back Saturday's. both are for repeat clients. That means we must be doing something right. Especially since both are paying us more to come do their events this time.

I often wonder if Mix and Canute are the same person.
Oh HELL NO YOU DIDN'T GO THERE!!!!!!!! LOL. No he is who he is and I'm happy to be me. I don't even want to be like him. He's a good guy but I've learned to accept me and all of my assets and liabilities.
