LOL no specific issue. By the way, i have been meaning to post this poll for a very long time now. You want me to give you more detail...ok here goes. The Two Way tops have no other outputs or switches, just one input ok. The sub has no other outputs or switches just a bypass filter to cut off everything above 100hz. OK now there you are for this specific scenario.
Still a 3-way, but being the giving person that I am, I will compromise and we can call it a 2 1/2 way.
 
passive 3 way. not necessarily deeming the best results, but 3 drivers, each with their own parameters for sound reproduction. You could argue that it is 2 way with added bass, but without knowing what passive components are inside that box and considering the low driver in that 2 way is frequency limited in itself anyway, I'll go the most general answer for the general question.

What Cabling Diagram? I posted pictures of my own and also some on the net so people can see how a harness is made. To what are you referring?
 
I'm thinking we call it a 3 way system (as Val said, 3 drivers, each targeting different bands) with active components (each block handling it's own), as there is no overall crossover, active or passive, but each enclosure has an active crossover in it (the subs merely there to limit it's top/bottom ends). Given a well thought out and designed DSP in each box, there isn't a need for an overall crossover, though one might add finer control along with other features that might be useful (delay, eq, feedback reduction).

You are introducing aspects that are not in the original criteria.
Based on you and Val's answers, if I place a QSC K 12 next to an EV ELX112P and feed both of them the same Full Range system, does that mean they now become a four way system?

Not the same thing, as both cabinets have drivers designed to target the same basic frequencies. The sub, as you listed it, has a filter on it, so it ONLY targets say 40Hz-150Hz with some response curve. The 2 way box has a physical limit based on the size of it's woofer, so one could assume it doesn't target the same spectra as the sub (though there may be overlap as you didn't provide any detail). So you have (1) HF driver, (1) LF driver and (1) ULF driver, so 3-way. A K12 next to a ELX12 would just increase SPL.

Isn't 40hz - 150hz part of the full spectrum of the Full Range System?

I don't want real pics, just the way it's connected, in a diagram form. That's not beyond your comprehension, is it...?
 
If you give a piezo tweeter a full-range signal, it still won't do much credit to that under say 1500Hz. So the signal arriving at the tops is full-range, but the tops will still eliminate some of it, either electrically or physically. So there are still 3 different drivers handling 3 different parts of the full-range spectrum (with overlap in areas). Many systems have been designed using physical properties of the drivers in lieu of an electrical crossover.

If I recall correctly I was trying to share how a harness is made to accomplish tidiness. The only diagram I can make is for my system or a specified list of components being used. You are requesting a hypothetical with no parameters. Everyone should know how to hook up their own system. Not everyone may know how to create a harness.
 
I have heard "way" used in two common "ways" over the years:

1) The number of speaker elements (per "channel"?) used to produce "full range" (20-20k Hz) sound content.
2) The number of external amp/signal connections used to drive (each "channel"?) a set of speaker cabinets to produce "full range" (20-20k Hz) sound content.

I tent to favor the second definition...as it treats the speaker cabinet as a "black box" and counts the number of independent signals that need to leave the crossover (for a single "channel" of sound). I find this definition to be more practical when counting cables while preparing for a gig.

So...the theoretical system proposed for the poll is: an active top with two speaker elements, and a sub. I would describe that system as "2 way"...based on the number of signal cables needed per channel.

Again you are introducing criteria that is not there. The "ifs" does not come into play here.;)

I'm asking you to diagram the hypothetical system you are asking the class about. How the heck am I supposed to know what yer asking about, if you can't even diagram it out...?

Is it a two way way, three way, whatever -- I can't tell, unless you give me specs on how it's connected...

Get out yer Photoshop program, make a diagram, and show it.
