Again you are introducing criteria that is not there. The "ifs" does not come into play here.;)
Not introducing any new criteria. Sub(1) + Top(2) = 3-way, no ifs. I was merely trying to explain that it doesn't matter how they are hooked up, how they are powered, whether they are in different cabinets or whether there is or isn't an active or passive crossover, the system acts as a 3-way given the parameters you laid (and didn't lay) out.

I'm asking you to diagram the hypothetical system you are asking the class about. How the heck am I supposed to know what yer asking about, if you can't even diagram it out...?

Is it a two way way, three way, whatever -- I can't tell, unless you give me specs on how it's connected...

Get out yer Photoshop program, make a diagram, and show it.
You succeeded in first confusing me and had me thinking about my cabling thread last year. Now i understand. OK my answer to you is, a diagram is not needed. Any DJ worth their salt should know what a basic two way Powered or Two way Passive Speaker entails, period! No fancy DSPs or switches. Onboard amplifier,filters plus the transducers and cabinets amount to the basic structure.

See that may be some of the confusion .. some BASIC 2 way powered tops DO have switches and ALL have DSP today.

But I said before in the criteria no switches, remember? Just a separation of frequencies to each transducer. What is so hard about that to understand?

Not in your original post you didn't. And as said, they all have DSPs anyway which control their response (and limiting).

Anywho, tell me what my home system is... This is what's called a basic diagram, apparently, they are not available in Texas, or yer just too lazy to make one...

Makes a slight difference when listening, as long as you have decent cables, and a quiet room. I also can bi-amp them as well, which makes a huge difference.

When I bi-amp, I'll run the bottoms off the Onkyo, and the tops from the tube amp -- that sounds pretty nice :)

Turn on some Diana Krall, and you can hear her moving her fingers on the piano.

Bi-amp I agree big-time, Bi-wire .. not in the slightest. I would be happy if someone could show an objective test with results that favors the bi-wiring, but they don't exist. Only benefit is you get an effectively larger gauge of wire, which would only affect things if you ran a fairly long distance.

If you like it, then go with it .. doesn't hurt anything except the wallet.

What type of System would this one be? Vote in Poll. A Full Range System going to a two way Powered Speaker/Tops and also to a Sub which has an onboard bypass filter?

I would call it more like a 2.1 - Way..... ;)

Technically it's a 3-way.... I was trying to justify why it isn't a true 3-way and with each word I typed I basically disproved my own thought process.... it is a 3-way because by utilizing the High Pass filter in the sub and the passive crossover within the top speakers you are effectively creating a 3-way separation of the frequency range and then directing the 3 bands to indipendant drivers.

So please change my vote from Other to 3-Way

Can I change my answer again..... I didn't read the entire thread..... so I'm changing my answer back to Other - 2.1-Way.... meaning since a full range signal is being sent to the 2-way Tops there is your 2-way... and since that same full range signal is being sent to a sub that is the .1-way part.
