A real DJ must look kinda like Santa Claus.

hahahah that reminds me....

Santa Clause
the Easter Bunny
a dumb blonde
and a smart blonde

are all standing around a real DJ

which one tries to hook up with the real DJ.....

The dumb blonde because none of the others exists.

If you exist, then you are real.

Only you and your clients (past, present and future) really know if you're a DJ or not.

I disagree.........................................

Only your past clients know if your a DJ. The other clients are hoping your a Real DJ or their choice will be in vain.

Ahhh, but your "future and present" clients will be your "past" clients....so I disagree.:sqwink:

no,, your future clients don't currently know that you are a real DJ,,, they WILL know, but they don't right now..... besidses, why am I saying anything, I told you all before.... dammm....

One must walk either Right side of road or Left side of road. If one walk middle of road, get squashed like-a grape...

If do real DJ, must do real DJ yes or do real DJ no... no maybe do real DJ....

There is no try. Only DO. When you can grab the CDs from my fingers, you will be ready...

BTW- Real DJs feel rough when you rub them against your teeth....

Full Time DJ is the real DJ?

The correct answer to Proformance riddle is .................................................

The Full Time DJ is the real DJ since he has reached a level of success that a Part Time DJ has not. The fact that a Full Time DJ is being more selective of the events he is booking thus resulting in lower numbers of events has nothing to do if he is a Real DJ since he has already succeeded at what the 25 year Part-Timer hasn't.

Now you open a new can of worms. So you are a FULL TIME DJ??? What does that mean??? Is it a DJ that entertains Mondays thru Fridays??? I have a day time job (Monday thru Friday), yet I DJ on Friday Nights, Saturday Nights and sometimes even on Sundays. Does that mean that I am a Part-Time DJ, therefore, I am not a real DJ??? You must be kidding!

I am so busy with gigs that I don't even have time to update my web site. I did not really put my answer to the question, but I did share my thoughts about being a DJ - along with my experience from when I first started.

But now I would like to answer the question on what I think a real DJ is all about.

- Knows how to beatmatch, mix and blend music together
- Knows how to use a microphone to MC without over doing it
- Knows how to read a crowd and can keep them dancing
- On public events can play the latest dance music
- On private events can play music selected by his client/customer
- Has the best selection in all the popular genres of music
- Has a large music library that can be customized for each gig
- Can handle ALL TYPES of parties and events (NOT JUST WEDDINGS)
- Knows the difference between P.A. System and S.R. System
- Knows about sound systems (Watts, Ohms, Crossovers, Maximizer, EQ)
- Use a Monitor when needed, and knows why a Monitor is needed
- Builds a light show that creates a club experience
- Has a passion to entertain, puts an effort to go the extra mile, is not lazy
- Experience in all types of situations and knows how to handle them
- Offers a setup based on location and situation (checks site prior to event)
- Custom lighting to accent ball room, tables, walls, etc.
- Has satisfied customers, happy clients and return customers
- Has an agenda for every event, is ready with a plan for the night
- Personality

Above is just a small list from the top of my head - at time of posting. Basically, it's much more than just doing it FULL TIME.

AGAIN, this is my opinion, without targeting anyone but I do not need to quit my daytime job to be a REAL DJ.

I liked your list but "You" conveniently left out the most important item.

That you are available to accept a event without having to check with anyone.

P.S. The word "Busy" is like the word "Success", Until you compare it to another DJ that is busier or more successful then you it has no meaning.

Using that as a criteria, wouldn't it be suggested that any DJ who works for a mult-op is not a "real" DJ?

A "real" DJ must be self-employed? Just checkin'....

Nice response Joe but....................................

There are Multi Ops where the DJs are independent and can book their own events and there are Multi Ops where the DJs only use the companies equipment and only work for the company.

So a DJ that works for a Multi Op and can still book his own events and does not have other work related constraints placed on his availability could be a Real DJ.

Cesar, that didn't answer my question. If a DJ works solely for a multi-op, and doesn't take independent events, is he/she, by your criteria, a real DJ?

Im just trying to determine how one of mystery can choose criteria for such meaning?Riddle me that Mr E Mann

Yes, Cesar is an enigma wrapped in a mystery, but I enjoy jumping into any pot he stirs. I know him well enough to understand his motivation.
