I have the Home version on my lappy
but have never run it at a gig for 3 hours
but it does sound more like a computer issue than a software issue.
Rick,
your trial version shuts down after a while, is it possible there is a similar "TIME OUT" on the VDJ Home Edition?

what exactly happens that you need to re-boot?
does the program freeze?
do you get a computer error message?

Mike,
The limitation for VDJ Home is 10 minutes of external MIDI controller/Mixer use. After the 10 minutes any controller/mixer running will quit, but the program is supposed to run without any time limit.

I have played with it at home for well over an hour with no stoppage
then again, I am NOT using an external controller or mixer...
perhaps that was part of the issue with the OP

By itself it will run for as long as you want.

people should know about How to use and do basic Maintenance on computers before thay play with them...
kinda like having a car, if you dont look after your car, sooner or later it will break down when you need it most.
good luck.

eZ, as a former IT pro, I can tell you that at least 85% (possibly more) of people who use computers are totally and completely ignorant as to how they work, or even to do basic functions to fix an issue. I worked as an IT specialist at a telecommunications company, and part of my job was Help Desk. You would be amazed at the things people call help desk for.

.
Heres some free advice (goto www.downloads.com ands look for SMART DEFRAG 2 install it)

From time to time shut the computer down and restart in safe mode, you'l need to know what the secert key is...
Do Not Do This 1 Hour Before Your Gig/DJ Set, do this 1 Day Before Hand...

1. run SMART DEFRAG2 and do a full scan disk and fully optimise, select all drives apart from the cd rom drive let it complete.

2. do a complete Regerstery Defrag of your system, let it complete this may require a reboot...

3 run your adaware program and do all drives, (some spyware pgm wont work in safe mode, so you will have to boot to normal mode) then run your spyware and let it complete

4. run your anti virus on all drives, let it complete (some virus pgm wont work in safe mode, so you will have to boot to normal mode) then run your V.P

5. if your still have computer issues you can run MSCONFIG, click on HIDE MICROSOFT APPS, and disable some start up programs that you dont need to run (be careful tho)

good luck
this tip would save you abt 15% or more, its so easy a cave man can do it :tritongue:

I am giving my clients way more than the average dj around here. It's not what they deserve Mike,It's how can I make this
better without spending the cash.If it takes getting a registered copy I will. Thanks

Perhaps this has already been mentioned but is it possible they have a 3-hour limit on the freebie version?

Been a while, did you ever get this resolved?
we used to have a laptop that would get slow, and I finally figured out the heatsink was getting plugged up like a lint trap on a clothes dryer. Fan would run all the time, and the cpu temp was always running up there. Blew the dust bunnies out with some air, and the fan cycled, and was much faster.

It never quit doing the occasional "hang up" for a minute at a time, so I eventually bought new dj computers and gave wifey my old dj laptop, then gave the crappy old Acer away to my neice who said she would take it even with the hangup problem.

Ok first we need to test that laptop, make sure to update all your drivers first to the most current from the Dell website.

Step 2: Download and run CPU Z and Real Temp software. Run it as you normally do when it crashes Real Temp will keep track of what was your highest peak temperature.

Come back with that info or you can look up your CPU info and the temp it's programed to shut down at.

If don't have 3 hours to waste, download and install Prime95. Run the torture test and if it's a heat issue your Laptop should shut down in minutes (possibly seconds), keep an eye on Real Temp while doing this to see what temp you hit before shit down.

Believe it or not.I did my first 4 hour gig the other night and didn't have to reboot one time.My powerblock was defective and my have been the culprit. My computer tech at work said the are notorious for going bad.I will see what happens this week.

Yea,it happened again. The program just freezes but the song will finish. Then I go back to cd's till I reboot. Then I can finish the night off with the puter.I am thinking about getting windows 7 installed
and try that. This machine has never been on the internet.Strictly audio playback.

We shall see how windows 7 runs when I take it down to the basement and run it through the paces.

It works fine Jon -- most of the world has been running it for a few years now... ;)

Windows 8 will be released soon, so you might want to pick up the pace a bit... xf:D
