The problem is likely your DELL computer not the software. I've had DELL consumer laptops that crash in a similar manner no matter what DJ software you run. It takes 3-4 hours to go blue screen, reardless of cooling or operating system. Never was able to figure out why it was specific to DJ software. Likely had something to do with the way DELL handles graphics. But, the problem does still occur (at onger intervals) when runningonly audio.
DELL business machines are far more reliable but often lack the kind of media features you want for DJing.
His laptop specs look fine too, other than the fact that he is probably running Vista... which may be the problem as well. If you are running Vista still, upgrade to Win7 ASAP. Vista has more crashes than a demolition derby.
Dude you should have seen when I was a Special Beta tester for Vista. According to the terms, I had to use a machine with Vista as the SOLE OS... no dual boot. OMG that was SO unstable!! Nothing worked. Half my programs were useless, the other half had crashes and bugs.
And this happened all the way up to RC2, then they released it. With a bunch of bugs we were STILL finding. I still can't believe they released it. It started to get better once they got better driver support, but then they just stopped once Win7 went to beta. Even the Beta of Win7 was better than Vista Ultimate. I hate that infernal OS.
Win7 is the ish tho. The stinky poo.
Win8, however, looks like a big extension of the OS on the Windows Phones (from what I have seen so far).
Not only do you and your clients deserve better, but you are also going completely against their Usage Agreement / TOS.
Straight off their website
'VirtualDJ Home is now available completely FREE for non-commercial use'
From the VDJ forums from a Pro user and a VDJ support guy in response to a thread about video
'1. If you are using the free home version of this software at a gig, then you are violating the usage agreement. The free home version is not meant for commercial use, e.g. doing gigs.'
and
'Home FREE is for non-commercial use only and cannot be used at gigs where you are being paid.'
This justifies not following a companies TOS (or other applicable regulations)?
The killer of it all is that the price of the sw is less than half of what some of us have paid for the sw/hw that we use. Do yourself a favor and get legit.
