Hey Steve!
My wife went to California without me last year
and said I could do a little traveling myself this year.

I was considering a week in Arizona with a friend....
or going to one of the DJ shows.
If you go to Atlantic City
are you going for more than one day?
Most likely I'll do like last year and go for the last 2 days. In prior years I kept missing out on the last day giveaways.

SOMEONE (a certain member who shall remain nameless) called us “birds of a feather”.emoji1.png It was kinda asinine, since we’re all SO DIFFERENT in so many ways, but particularly in how we DJ and run our businesses. It prompted me to make this little poster...

Thought I recognized Mixmaster nachoman but, He wasn't setting in the photo.

I recall some of the "issues" on Dj chat. The issue I recall was with was a super mod we'll call "Bernie". He'd get into arguments with people and boast how he had the ability to boot people for good. Jon Tuck, RIP, was one of the ones I recall being booted by Bernie.
He also had a habit of getting in arguments, then tell people off and close the thread so they couldn't respond
Bernie, who was a rep for a Gemini, and was a major sponsor on Dj chat, said in one thread that he'd been to Bose HQ and discovered that Bose was in fact a scam. "Anyone that paid for Bose was an idiot"..were his exact words. I joined the thread and let him know I was one of those idiots 😄. He sends me a PM saying if I ever say anything bad about Gemini, he's gonna boot me for life. I replied I'm not sure what you're talking about, I never mentioned anything about Gemini. I think you have the wrong person. He just replied, "you've been warned".
In another thread, he actually edited someone's post that he was arguing with. I mentioned I thought Bernie was being a bully and abusing his "authority", several people mentioned that Bernie had the upmost integrity, was a "legend" in the Dj world, and that it was trouble making nobody's like me and Jon tuck just liked to start trouble:)
I forwarded everything to sid, owner of the site, to let him know I thought one of his mods was out of control. He replied, Bernie is a major sponsor. If he's bothering you, avoid him. If he wants you gone, you're gone. So I left for the most part.
Jon Tuck, who would sneak into djchat with fake accounts just to tell Bernie off,😄 let me know about this place and I've loved it ever since. It was good to reunite with Jon and a few others. Loved this place ever since. I recall having disagreements with Jeff Romard early on, but respecting him more and more with every interaction.

BTW, Mr. Integrity ended up buying a sound equipment company in Chicago, which became the major sponsor at Dj chat. After it closed with a number of people accusing the company of taking money and not shipping equipment, the people that were previously defending his integrity were silent. Sid had to apologize to Dj chat members that bought from Bernie because they were supporting Dj chat but got fleeced. Sid said Bernie owed him a bunch of money as well.

Once Bernie was gone, Dj chat became much more bearable. But still not like this place.
Disagreements will always happen. But when leadership had to bow to a bully to keep the lights on, it stopped being a fun place for me. I felt bad for Sid. I felt he was backed into a corner.

I was a long time lurker over at DJChat.com I've watched Mix have the same interactions with forum members for a long time. It was my personal form of entertainment. I stumbled across this forum and noticed how many DJs from DJChat were over here. I'm still lurking but at least this time I made an introductory post. I've also been wondering if DJchat and Ourdjtalk were related in any way.

Welcome to our place. While you are welcome to lurk, we'd love to hear from you!

As long as you agree with me, that is😄. Just kidding

Bernie and I had some head knocking from time to time too. He threatened to boot me one time because I knocked Gemini just to bait him. I told him I got kicked out of grade 7 because of bullies it didn't bother me then either do as he sees fit LOL. I didn't realize that Bernie screwed a bunch of people that must have been when I moved over here I was gone for probably 2 years there. Maybe that's when Bernie came here he wasn't here long and he was a much milder version of himself

Dan MacKay was another piece of work too. He called us the island of broken toys but made a point of signing up himself. Before he announced he was dying he picked a fight with me over something I got a message from Ken Peterson to tell me to back off he was sick. Apparently he thought illness made Dan a better human...It didn't.

Scott you I and Cap had some great ones and I equally respected both of you more and more as time went on especially after you guys realized I was right ;)

Truth be told you were much kinder than I deserved for the most part...

What was Bernies last name? It escapes me for some reason

I'll agree with you Scott. Bernie was a douchebag of the highest order. Hey, since I'm not calling anyone from here that name, is it okay to call Bernie a douchebag? BTW, did I mention he was a real douchebag.

lol

If he was a Platypus and you called him a Platypus I would say it was OK so carry on ;)

Welcome to the board it's a pretty cool place here

I joined in 2008.
I actually was on DJChat first....
and much like Rick, I really hated the attitude there.
If you were new to the business, new to the forum...
or you just had the audacity to ask a simple question...
they'd be all over you.
Found a link to ODJT, and never looked back.

Part of the reason DJChat has this on their home page:

DJchat Message
We are working on the issues. Be back soon.

I believe it was me that gave it to you in a PM at Chat...The site name was banned so I had to spell it out o u r d j t a l k dot c o m LOL

In the 13 years here I've had Arnoldo and Ken Peterson both threaten to sue me one email from some anonymous hero calling me names and one threatening to kill me. Got banned for a week once too for calling John Allo (RIP) an a*****e LOL. Other than that it's been good times and still less headaches than Chat

We had one mod here take money for a football pool and was never heard from again. We've had some really good people leave over silly disagreements and some that just won't leave as much as you might wish. There's been a few die sadly. I miss Rick and Jon almost every day I log in.

After Shirl passed Fred hasn't been back. Fred is one of the finest people I've ever talked to. Papa Moved on as did Kirby I always hoped they would be back both were quality guys but we all have our place in life

I look forward to seeing all the regulars when I sign in everyday. I can honestly say that if I signed in tomorrow and the site wasn't here I would truly miss it. I hope I've left more than I've taken

By the way if you use Facebook and you're not on my list and would like to be feel free to add me. If you use a pseudonym here shoot me a message to let me know who you are

Ive been here for 3 years now I think, I started looking for forums to join and I joined DJ Chat first, but my account never got approved for posting, but that turned out to be a good thing, as after spending a short time I realized how toxic that place was and how unfriendly they were to new people, and didnt want to put up with that so it was a good thing that I could not post. I ended up finding this place and spent probably months just reading the forum before I ever posted.

There are few guys that were very very helpful to me when I first started posting and trying to learn things, Steve, Bobcat, Jeff have all put up with me sending them countless PM's asking them questions, and they have all be so kind to take time out to answer them. And then there is Big Dan, who helped me get my website up and running, he talked through every step of the way and for that I grateful to him for that , I hope one day I can repay Dan for that.

NOTE: PLAY STAR WARS THEME SONG WHILE READING THIS!

A long time ago in a internet far far away there was this DJCHAT forum. It was ran by the Empire. After a while, a bunch of rebels got tired of the BS of the empire, and deided to cause problems for them, and rise up against the tyranny! From that point forward DJ CHAT had a slow melt down due to the ongoing war between the Empire and the Rebels.

After a long time of battles, the Empire finally started to collapse, and fall apart. DJ CHAT fell into disarray with no real leadership at the helm. It eventually died due to the downward spiral falling far into the abyss. Mean while, another republic was being cultivated by the leaders of the rebel alliance. That forum is called Our DJ Talk.

Today, Our DJ Talk is a strong forum with lots of involvement by it's members, and has the light side of the force on it's side! The Empire has Been Crushed, and there are no signs of it coming back!

Well, we're in that discussion phase of getting together in WV to throw Jeff a bachelor party (about 16 years late) ..

I was serious about this:). Better late than never:)

I've been around since before any of these sites existed. Before the WWW and GUI websites there were Newsgroups which were basically bulletin boards where the same conversations happened without all the bells and whistles or private messaging that exists now.

which, ironically, has nothing to do with the topic of the post, but thanks for the trivia ;-)

Bob used to broadcast fax posts to others😄
BAHAHAHA

I'm an original sinner here at the "nothing short of marvelous" ODJT. To echo what's already been said, our beloved "Big Dan" did in fact bestow upon us an "Island of Misfit DJs" Misfits in the sense that we did fit the mold of what the so-called industry leaders that ruled and bullied on the other online outlets expected. We still had heated debates over practices and pricing, but for the most part, we all got along and exchanged ideas and information as well as anyone.

Then something even better happened. We started connecting beyond the job. The screen names became real names. The avatars became faces and an honest and trusted network evolved. One member in particular, Jon "Jay T Vegas" Tuck, would almost always greet and connect with new members immediately. He would exchange phone numbers with people and then give them the official one hour welcome call. The ultimate icebreaker.

It wasn't long before we had a tight online community. Many of us have met in the real world as well. At times we've laughed till we cried and cried till we laughed.
It's a bit different now, but I've yet to see anything on the web that can hold a candle to what Dan and that handful of folks created back then. It was a real and true social network then and still is for the most part.

I tend to lurk more now than I post, but how many times can one talk about the job. Anyway, this place and the people within will stay with me forever.
Thank you Dan and thank you ODJT.

i can imagine i would be angry and bitter too if my job was promoting gemini... yikes

cc

You beat me to it. My first mixer was Gemini and it was a piece then. I can't imagine staking my personal image on a brand that hasn't remained even partially relevant in the DJ world. They barely make kids crap well...
