2 gigs and one bad hair day

Both gigs were weddings. One was in a large hall, the other....not so large.

My brother decided to give a twisty mohawk to the last 6 hairs on my head.
I'm officially a loser.....well, at least now you know I am.

2 - 16 Channel Moving heads. Freakin sweet, with remote focus! Let me know if you are interested in getting some for yourself. Complete with MSD 250 discharge lamps for around $725 ea.

Two separate systems running concurrently. Two separate SKB 10x8 consoles, independent except for power, on my own 4' table.

Right side: Virtual DJ, Numark DMC2 controller, 750gb Firewire external, SONY UHF wireless, Sampson power conditioner, Numark RM-6 mixer, SONY VAIO A600 computer;

Left side: BPM Studio, DMX-44 controller, 750gb Firewire external (not visible), hard wired mic, Numark RM-6 mixer, SONY PCGGRX560 computer.

Right side console mixer L/R xlr outs into BOSE L1s (channel 1s), left side console L/R mixer xlr outs into BOSE L1s (channel 2s).

Can record on either laptop, can access the internet either laptop, total connections, 6.

Everything is labeled and/or color coded. If something goes wrong, reading tiny print or tracing uncoded wire clusters wastes valuable time and increases stress. Everything is here inside for transport. Power cables, power splitters, xlr's for Zone A (both sides), xlr's for Zone B (both sides), HDMI cable and power cable for the monitor. Dat's it. The whole enchilada.

Back in the saddle....

First gig pic since coming out of semi-dj-retirement. Had to set up in the corner where the portray their class photos, so the background wasn't so nice, but at least I got some updated pics of the set up on the website now. I had 3 ladies waiting on the pics to confirm they would use me for their weddings. Just got them up there this evening and hadn't even sent them an email to let them know and all three called to tell me to send the contract. So, that makes me happy that they were happy! :)

Noticed that my par cans aren't straight, so I'm either going to make 'em so or start pointing them in multiple directions to make them look like there supposed to be random.

I also have plans to add a fascade to the front and get rid of the black velvet.

The Intimidators did a nice job in stand-alone mode, but I can't wait until I get them on a controller.

I'll have to get back with you, I have a hard enough time remembering my phone number. :) I've used Peavey since day one of djing....the black widow 18's and the small cabinets on the sides shown have been going strong for 18 years!! I added the two larger top cabinets a few years back. The two pair compliment each other nicely. In fact, everything I use for sound is Peavey, except for my mp3 players.

Peavey, heavy to lug around...but damn near indestructable! :)
 
I had a gig for a local elementry school about a week ago. They wanted my smaller package with the small lightshow, and it turned out to be perfect. This pic was when I just finished setup and was tidying up everything.

Brian: Have you ever considered running your speaker cables up the center of your supports? Perfectly hidden.

Just coil up the wires when you're done and put the support and wiring in the same tote bag.

Just as a very friendly, non-invasive, and experienced suggestion, with the amount of exposed wiring that is not tethered or taped dowm in any manner, dare it be suggested that you are exposing yourself to potential liability (neglect) issues?

Even though you may not personally know it should be done, there are others who take a greater care of such things and you will be held accountable to the best, not the worst. Ignorance, however blissful, is NOT a defense in court.
 
Brian - If I may make a suggestion -

When doing outdoor events, unless you have a rider in your contract that stipulates that the client is responsible for providing adequate cover to protect your equipment, you may want to invest a couple hundred dollars in one of these 10 x 10 vendors pop-up tents. I bought mine at Costco a few years ago and have never regretted it.

Just my two cents worth.

**p.s., please forgive the crudeness of the setup in the pic - we had to move everything and re-set up at the last minute due to some stupid restrictions at the dragstrip.
 
Thanks for the suggestions guys,

As for the cables, I wasn't completely done setting up so they were messy, but most of that was corrected a little while after I took the picture. One speaker cable is only 10', I busted a 25' and haven't had a chance to get it replaced yet. But thanks for the wiring suggestions anyway, its something I'm going to work on!

As far as the tents, I do have a tent like that, but we just moved and I couldn't locate it through the mountains of boxes in the garage yet. lol I normally wouldn't do this, but it was to be a clear night, and we have been in a 3 week drought, so I wasn't as worried as i'd normally be.
