Rockit 5 - Feature Requests

Seriously, I'm not trying to be grumpy or inconsiderate, but you asked for 'RocktIt 5 Feature Requests', right?

1. I don't want the Save feature turned off, I want to have the option to either save a session or not....and

2. If I choose to save the history, I want to name it right there. Not to have to open up a series of folders to get to it and rename it. This is more important when playing a late night gig and just wanting to go home.

I'm already aware on how to work around the little inconveniences that you don't deem important.

It's not that I don't don't deem it important Randy, I originally had it setup that way, where it asked you if you wanted to save it, and allowed you to type over the filename.

The reason I changed it, was that if you have to restart Rockit in a hurry (lets say your sound card became disconnected, which requires Rockit to be restarted), it would shut down clean and quick, without requiring the user to do a whole bunch of stuff.

It's certainly something I can put in as an option -- so I put it in the notepad :)


BTW, to rename it, you don't have to open folders in Windows, you do that right in Rockit -- just right click on the dated list under History. A history list is the same as a playlist, so all the same options are available :)

BTW, you can do that another way if you like -- before you close Rockit, open the History list, right click, and save as playlist. It'll be upside down though :)

Hi Ray,

I've never needed it in 35+ years... :sqconfused:


Anyway, Rockit uses a streaming decoder currently. Because of that, Rockit does not have access to enough samples at any given time, to do proper time stretching or contraction, IMHO.

It is built in, but turned off because it doesn't work up to my standards for stability and sound quality.


Master Tempo/Key Lock is a time machine for all intents and purposes -- one has to manipulate time. So, lets say we want to slow down a song without changing pitch -- we need to insert samples, where none currently exist. If we want to speed it up, we have to remove samples, that do currently exist. Sound travels at the same constant, so we just can't make it go faster, without changing it, unless we do a simple pitch adjustment.


Having said all that, I have no idea if I will enable it...

If I do, the next support call you make, will probably be answered by some guy in Pakistan, instead of me -- just like all the other DJ software companies that utilize master tempo do now... ;) :)

Just curious, but what did you do before tempo came along?

I've never owned a turntable or CD deck with tempo control or key lock -- it didn't exist for most of my career. So consequently, I've never used it during a performance.

That's probably why I find it hard to understand why some people place such importance on it... :dontknow:
 
Rick now I understand. Trust me I started back in the old days with no pitch control and then the seas parted when pitch came into the picture and then it evolved even more when keylock finally existed and hey it made any of us a DJ though many still cant work keys but thats another topic. Lets just say some are lazy and ask silly questions like will a song with a BPM of 111 work with a song 112.5? I laugh OUT LOUD!!!
 
It is a great tool that will let you mix a 115 BPM song with a 125BPM song perfectly. You can also key mix. I started DJing in 1990 working a few hot clubs on turntables mixing with the best of them. When I got my 1st Denon in 1992 it had pitch lock and I did VERY well with it then came Master Tempo/Key Lock and a whole other world of Harmonic Mixing opened up. JON: Lazy? It's a great tool for DJ's who actually DJ and can not only beat mix a set but can also harmonically mix as well making your sets killer... Rick: I have 20 years under my belt and I don't use a computer but was looking at different software and the thread asked for requests so I gave my request. Hey no biggie to me there are many many different software titles that give you this so no problems here. Best of luck with your new release.

@Ray,

Yeah, Rockit is not designed for beat/club type mixing -- it's pretty much specifically targeted at the interactive wedding type DJ. When people call and are looking for software to do intense, hands on mixing, I usually point them towards Serato...

That's not to say you cannot do some cool mixing in Rockit, but it's designed old school, which requires practice. I can do some cool stuff in Rockit, but I know all the exact delays on file types, bit rates, etc. within the software, and I do it so many times each day, that it becomes second nature for me...
 
I like the idea of tempo. But as Rick mentions for us who learned to beat mix on Turntables this is easily done on the current Rockit offering. As I mentioned you could train a monkee to mix on the tempo lock setups where any song can be mixed without a brain.

I am an interactive wedding DJ with over 800 events under my belt! I can not believe your comments. I have been doing this 20 years and I can mix on cassettes. Most DJ's I know (Who DO WEDDINGS) mix. Like I said no worries I wish you the best but with your attitude you will never be a big player in the DJ world. Thanks but NO THANKS! Before you cut on someone let's compare resumes. You prob know I have never used your software, but a quick question. I am looking for something that will let me use 4 decks at once. I can use 4 with virtual dj but it doesn't run very well. I need 4 decks that I can setup as a main output and a monitor select all will Auto BPM matching like Virtual DJ. Is this something you software is capable of doing or will be available with the new release?
 
I'm still trying to figure out why Ray got mad -- I think he attributed Jon's post to me... :dontknow:

My last post prior had to do with my design philosophy, and Rockit's target market... :sqconfused:



BTW, I'd have to clean a hot plate Sarge -- I'm trying to avoid all manner of that, because it's only 38 degrees where the sink is :sqerr:

Anything I cook, has to be done without cleaning anything :)
