Ok, you damn commie... :D

I had to climb down the shaft into the mothership, in order to access the nuerel matter transporter (vaporizor, in layman's terms), in order to answer these deep questions on a Sunday afternoon...

1. Learn to type fast.

2) See #1 -- it's a Windows thing, not Rockit. Try the library search box -- it works just dandy :)

3) Pitch works fine. The control is not on all skins though. Tempo is a PITA -- you'll see it in either 4.2, or the next version -- depending on how much longer it keeps pissing me off. I have it working ok, but it has yet to pass the RICK CAN STILL BREAK IT WITHOUT TRYING CHALLENGE. If I have to, I will release 4.2 without it, otherwise, I will spend the rest of my days answering phone calls, about why it broke -- sorta like VDJ folks (oh wait, they have no phone number, except for sales).

4) Yes it would :D Buy two sound cards, map each deck to a channel on yer mixer, and have a blast. Rockit then works like two CD decks, and you don't use its mixer -- you use yer hardware mixer for cueing. You have to remember, I "grew up" DJ'ing, using turntables, cassette decks, 8-tracks, and basic CD players. When I cue, I press play on the CD player, listen in on headphone cue channel from mixer, and press Pause when it is where I want it. It is now cued :)

5) AutoMix uses one single queue now. The reason for that, was my support phone calls were running like 8-1 for a single queue (or list), to work with. Many people found it confusing to do the back and forth thing. Majority rule on that one (you'd have to successfully beat up on many thousands of people, to change my mind). If you succeed, I will put it back... :)

6) Ahhh Weedhopper, you ask the all knowing question...?

The answer is simple:

Wax on, wax off.

Or, you could just read the skinning tutorial ;)

Actually, here's how it happened...

It was a dark stormy night. The wind was blowing furiously out of the northwest. The lights were flickering, as the snow and ice piled up on the power lines!

Rick was hunkered down with a smoke, and a couple Coor's Lights (that was before I could afford the good stuff -- like Corona). Rick had an idea (suggested by Faith -- who was cold and hungry at the time), that he would create a musical user interface, known as Rockit. He would name this series V4! It was good. The interface, was to be completely user customizable. It was so -- it was good.

The users, don't know how to read the manual, or tutorials. Ok, that wasn't so good, thinking people could read.

Anyway, read the basic skinning tutorial :)

7. See # 6. You can make it any color(s) yer heart desires, use a few presets, etc.

8) I'm not sure I rememver what the load delay was for... Oh, I believe the "load delay", is 18 seconds for the V4 series, when running AutoMix.

Anyway, here's the gist, if I can try and explain:

Rockit, since V4, is no longer a program like it used to be -- it is an interface now. It is designed for the user (or 3rd party designer) to tweak, much like Winamp. It makes for tons of flexibilty, yet I only design the core, and the user level interface to the core. It is much like a small OS (operating system), in that it can be changed, without requiring me to make the changes to the core.

You can do amazing things with Rockit, but it requires you to try different things, and not be force fed what I give you :)

I've documented lots of stuff in the skin files, as well as the manual and the tutorials.

For example -- how do I change the color of a text field (Title, Artist, etc.). Easy, read the Basic Skinning tutorial.

If you have a question as to what a certain tag value means, just ask :)

Old dog

OK King Rick, or alien spawn, or son of Darth.

1. In old Rockit 3.2 which I love by the way. When you type and hit enter you don't lose the letters you typed in the search box. In the newer versions you lose the typed letters in the search box. I and many others would like it if that didn't happen.

2. I think you told me it was a resource hog. I was making my a wish list and this was on it, maybe in the future when life is beautiful we all get along.

3. Wish list item. Tempo, would great but if it's gonna make you nuts.

4.This would be on my wish list, however, I think you told me that Rockit doesn't load the whole song, it only loads about 3 sec. of the song and that's why this feature doesn't work in Rockit. I have two sound cards and I have it mapped just the way you say to do it. I have used Rockit 3.2 for two years now and I remember way back when I used my Denon 2500F Dual CD player. I would listen through my headphones, as the song was paused I would use the jog wheel to go back and forth to find the exact spot where I wanted to set my cue. This feature would be nice.

5. I personally don't know how they find this confusing. For more than 30 years now as a DJ/Entertainer, I have always worked from 2 stacks of 45's or albums, 2 tape decks, 2 CD players. It only makes sense to me to go back and forth between two. These people you speak of are entitled to their opinion. I guess if it makes less work for you, I understand. I just wish it was an option in the newer versions.

6. I will read the tutorials and learn damn it learn.. If I don't learn it good, you'll be hearing from me.
7. I will read the tutorials and learn damn it learn.. If I don't learn it good, you'll be hearing from me.

8. You wrote "I'm not sure I remember what the load delay was for... Oh, I believe the "load delay", is 18 seconds for the V4 series, when running AutoMix." Is this set at 18 seconds or can it be adjusted?

I guess it's like anything new, if you have nothing else to compare it to, more than likely you are happy with it the way it is. Having made the evolution from smoke signals and banging on a drum to CD's now MP3's, my view of the future is influenced by my past. It's hard to let go of some of these features I used for years that make gigging easier. Then there is that old dog, new trick thing..

Once again Rick, thanks for a great DJ software program! I know this keeps you supplied with Corona's and Cigs, but I know you love what you do.

Long Live Rick,

I'll do what I can,
My small commie lass.
But do you realize the breadth,
Of the net that you cast...?

I'll be working for hours,
Nay, days unto weeks.
To make ye olde tempo,
So tight that she squeaks.

My fingers be bloodied,
As I toil away.
To make one person happy,
This very same day.

Yes, that's who I am,
Except on tonight.
Cause I drank some cold brew,
Pretty soon, it's night, night...

Yeah, I got the good sh_t... :sqwink:

I'll see what I can do... :)

Another Netbook skin :)

This one I designed for myself, but I'll share the wealth

It's a bit shorter, so you can still see the Window's Taskbar at the bottom, and is basically designed as an AutoMixer. I don't use the My Computer browser, so it's not visible on this skin, but you could easily make the Library window smaller, and fit it to the right.

From what I understand, Rockit will run on a Mac under VMWare, or another emulator -- I haven't tried it myself, but if you ever get a chance to, let me know... :)

You could just run Vista on your Mac as well -- I know there are ways to do that, although I haven't tried that either...

Boot Camp runs XP/Vista/7 naively as if it were any old PC; I haven't tired that yet myself really my HD is too small to give a portion of it to Windows. I just installed a trial of VMWare Fusion and popped on a Win 7 install. It struggles with only 1 GB dedicated to W7 but I'll take a look at how Rockit works with it.

There is also Parallels Desktop for Mac (commerical) which does the same as Fusion and Virtual Box by Sun which is free. I haven't tired either of them yet. I've used VMWare on both Windows and Linux always a solid product on those platforms if decide to buy a visualization option I'll go with VMWare.

One of them Parallels or Fusion will allow you to use your Boot camp partition as a virtual machine inside OS X which seems pretty neat.

BTW, I just ordered a couple RAM chips, one for the Mac, and one for the Netbook -- they use the same memory. So, I'll upgrade them both to 2 GB :)

They're like $12 each on Amazon (actually, they had 2 for $19.95), but were out of stock on that deal...

Thanks Rick. My mini is maxed out with 2GBs; I've read about some people having luck getting it to recognize 3GB but Apple only officially supports 2 and it looks like murder to get the case open so I'd rather not muck with things.

Hey I got RockIt running in a VM on Windows 7. I'm playing around with it a little bit that little Wizard guy on the add music screen is pretty neat looking.

The only problem I had was the audio was choppy; I'm think it's the driver because it's a VMWare thinks W7 is Vista plus it being 64 Bit I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

I'm going to get XP installed in a VM later, I'll see how it runs in that.

Rick ---- did my pm get lost in your box?

Don't know -- which PM...?

Gotta be careful on PM's -- if you put them in at night, I read first thing in the morning, then promptly forget about them, before I'm awake enough to answer... Then I never remember them :sqeek:

Email, or put here -- always works :)

Wow, I hope your phone customer service is alot better than that!

Open up your damn pm box and answer it. I'm tired of these games you feel you must play. :sqmad:

What I don't have, is any clue as to what yer speaking of.

You've sent me many PMs -- which one are you referring to?

Classic Rick! Just forget it! I'm so tired of getting the run around with you, it's not funny. How hard is it to open up your pm box and look at the last one I JUST sent you a day ago & check to see if you replied. Do you drink that damn much that you forget things so easily.
