Removing Bloat on my NEW Laptop

I'm still laughing about the laptop cooler debaucle :trismug:
My new laptop is finally here.
I'm a computer dj virgin boys, so go easy on me.
So this is what I have - using it STRICTLY for music - no video
Lenovo G560 Notebook - Intel Dual-Core i5-480M 2.66GHz Base 3MB/L3 with 2.93GHz Max Turbo!!, 6GB DDR3-1067, 640GB SATA 5400RPM, 8X DVD+/-RW DL, 15.6" HD WXGA 1366x768, 0.3MP Webcam, Wireless 802.11B/G/N, Intel HD Graphics, 6-Cell Battery (up to 4 hours battery life, according to Lenovo), 3-USB2.0 ports, Expresscardslot/34, VGA, 10/100, HD Audio, Media Reader, LED Backlight, Windows 7 Premium 64-Bit.

NOW....what "bloat" do I need to remove? How do I get rid of it or delete it?
I've looked around the board & I guess I'm not searching right.
Decrapifier???

OMG...my head hurts....:yofaint:
 
Honestly, I don't really see much to worry about. Decrapifier can be crap.... It doesn't usually do the job well, in my experience.

BTW, what bloatware are you talking about?

Oh...and something called ooVoo.
 
Just go to "add/remove programs" uninstall anything that looks unwanted.
However, this is not as important as disabling startup services and programs and cleaning up the desktop.

Go to START, type in MSCONFIG and hit enter, select the STARTUP tab and uncheck anything that's not directly linked to the system.
Then under the SERVICES tab, tick the "Hide all Microsoft services" and then disable all the rest.
Remove any unwanted shortcuts from the desktop.

You don't want to remove Explorer or Windows Media Player -- they have other functions within the OS, and you will likely have problems updating the OS down the road...

Rick - Thank you! I would have gacked the Windows Media. And I REALLY am wanting Rockit...will it work with the Hercules RMX?

RockIt will work with any miidi controller.

It even has a built-in easy to use mapping program for whatever controller you buy.

It already has a few pre-loaded maps for a few controllers - among them a Hercules Steel.

But I'm sure that will work with any Hercules controller.

Rick, please correct me if I'm wrong...another plus from RockIt...the guy who wrote the program is a regular here.

As far as I know, the RMX and Steel both use the same MIDI map, so yes, it should work fine.
 
Thanks Rick! Want the RMX because it already has a soundcard & seems relatively easy to use. There are so many fans of Rockit here so I will be downloading today & testing it out.
 
I'm a bit late to this party but I'd like to add some thoughts...

Hijack This is my recommendation for cleaning up your PC. It's free, just do a search and download.

The thing with bundled bloatware in a PC, some of the files are hidden. Some may contain code that tells Windows not to touch them. Win (and aftermarket cleaner utilities) won't always remove it.

Or won't remove all of it. With some cleaner utilities, the bloatware is removed but associated commands are left in the registry. Dead ends in the registry can slow boot time.

Hijack This will expose it all, hidden or not, offer recommendations and remove anything you tell it to remove. :)

For those suggesting a fresh install of Windows 7, I am not very good with all that & TERRIFIED to change anything.
A few years ago, I deleted programs & changed settings on an XP desktop per someone's suggestions.
OMG - I ended up having to hire a geek to straighten it out.
FYI - lappy didn't come with a Windows 7 disc, so I guess I need to get one created!
