Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. Couple years ago we set up for a show and I couldn't get the system to power up. There was nothing coming out of the Furman. The pullout lamps were working but the rear outlets were dead.

So I scrounged up a bunch of power strips from the gig bag and ran everything off them instead. The show went without a hitch. I even got some photos from behind the console.

Next day I opened the system and checked out the Furman. Switched the blue breaker handle on... and it worked fine. :confused:

Looking at the photos later I could see what happened. The breaker on the Furman was in the Off position. I thought it was switched on but I was wrong. Shirl even asked me if it was turned on while we were setting up and I said it was.

It wasn't. :rolleyes:
 
Glad to hear all is well! Hey, you're still just a lightweight idiot. I once had a sound problem that was driving be crazy for twenty minutes- Until I realized that I had, in the dim light, connected my audio (white) to an extra video (yellow) output from my player to my amp.. Keep in mind I'm an EE....:sqembarrassed:

Don't worry, you're just warmin' up...:sqrolleyes:
 
We should make a thread of dumb mistakes I could take up alot of bandwidth there :sqlaugh:

Here I was at my Gig last night worrying 'bout yer sorry azz and hoping that it won't be a major problem. Do you know how much ODJT agencies yer put into motion?All that time and money spent? :sqmad: Hmmmm thats it! Yer back down to wannabe level! No damn spit fer this gent....let 'im have it raw! Hey Wayde it was great meeting you last week.

The venue is in Queens. It's called Villa Marcello on Rockaway Blvd in Ozone Park. The small room on the left is the room with the power issues. If you ever play there, plug up from the rear right near the back exit door.

I hope to see you again in NJ or maybe Atlantic City.
 
Kirby I am so glad you had brain fade and perhaps what the groom smelled. Regardless of the humor or grief. The story still holds value as you definitely know there is a problem with the juice in that building might want to have that looked into or perhaps some clean power somewhere in the building or demands for use if you are ever contracted there. Atleast ya know your insurance with a Fuhrman proved valueable and worth your money as it didnt fry anything in the system. Tho I dont even play expert in a sitcom I recall someone saying that you plug all other sources into the Furhman besides your amp. Some wise electronics guy said it isnt necessary. Minds in the know please take the mic away from me if I am off my rocker lol. Your EV amp would have went into protection without the Fuhrman your other components would have suffered worst things.

In the moment of panic it's easy to overlook something like this. Im just glad your amp is ok.

Now bring the amp inside the house, make it a drink, stroke it and then tell it how much you love it. Kiss the Furman also.

After "poking" (Literally ;) ) some fun we have all made such a mistake over time whether one wants to admit it or not. As John has stated when the chit happens you get tunnel vision and your heart rate jumps. You cannot be calm and stay focused on things hindsight is 20/20 at the moment your screwed. The simplest and most visible thing suddenly becomes invisible. This happened you just need to add it to the checklist of emergency measures for the future :) I would also send Furman a Thank You card ;)

All my amps go directly to the power distro as they should be able to handle the fluctuations in voltage. It's the smaller and finer things (CD players, processing, etc.) that really need the protection. Either way the Furman deserves a medal and with EV as well as other reputable manufacturers their amps will protect themselves when necessary.
 
I'll an idiot story of my own with ya:

Back in the day the bar I work is just opening up for the season so I go in and pull DJ booth apart to give every thing a good cleaning and an inspection. I get everything put back together but all I'm getting is very low volume coming out of the speakers. Everything's powered on, the mixer is receiving a signal, everything's working except sound. I pulled the whole system apart piece by piece TWICE. Even stood my fat ass on a bar stool to check the speaker connections.

After two hours a little light bulb goes off in my head to actually check the switches on the board -- I had the Mic switch on which lowered the sound from the sources. I never used it so I didn't even think about it. So I flip the switch and scare the crap out myself and the boss as I had the volume almost all the way up. :sqlaugh:
 
If nothing else, I hope my near-mishap will help someone else to realize that you do need "protection, back-up gear ready to go, and to remember to check the simple things first before assuming the worst."
