Need to take 1 channel recording to Stereo

Where did the OP say anything about video? The Zoom is a digital audio recorder with built in mics.

Dave I think it came when I mentioned Vegas and replacing or enhancing a true mono file.

Ttown2,
How big is the file?

So - even easier. Either do it in the software or through a Y.
Are you kidding me? These guys are like Politicians, they like to take the long way around. Why use Northern already on the roll when you can send out for a brand new roll of Charmin? yorofl:yorofl:yorofl:

Thank you all for the replies. I apologize for not disclosing every single detail of the situation to make all contributors aware of where I am at on the audio files for this event.

The mixer and audio setup was NOT ours and was provided, at direction of the client, by the facility in which the event occurred. There is NO video involved in this project. There is NO band or anything that would be comprimised on this audio recording. The source was the in-house mixer and 95% of the audio recordings are the various speakers and corporate management speaking.

The issue was that I DID NOT have the proper cable or adapter with me to facilitate the need of the mixer. Unfortunately the venue was 5 hours away from me and when I got on site I realized at the 11th hour that I did not (my error) bring my XLR to 3.5mm (1/8") adapter cable. the mixer the house sound guy had only facilitated an XLR output - my bad and I told the client a few hours before the event started of this mistake but we would still get SOME recording. When the house audio tech gave me his adapter it was a single XLR to 1/8" input, then I had to make a choice - will I record everything via the LEFT channel or the RIGHT channel. I chose the LEFT.

I was extremely transparent with the client the entire time, I am glad people on here are willing to assist and I am even more appreciative that others in the industry are concerned with newbs coming in and destroying the professionalism of the collective whole. This was an added benefit I was including for the client to the video work, presentation setups, and multiple other production assets we provided for the weekend long event.

I will try the Audacity method... again, I thought this would be a fix but didn't know if there might be something easier or BETTER for the client's sake. They are so pleased with how smooth we ran the conference that they have already hired us for 2 more next year. I am trying to do right by fixing my mistake of not bringing ALL of my cables. Not the first time or the last I am sure.

I'm not going to debate the easier way - that would be giving away the hard earned experience. Here are the options, good luck.

:)

I may be wrong but in his post "Is there anyway to duplicate the channel and 'flip' it to the Right Channel also to create a "Stereo" setup in Mono? I tried doing it on Garagaband and could not come up with an answer. the clients are desperate for the recordings, and I am at the end of the line here looking for help.", he sounds desperate which tell me that the Client does not know the real deal. Comprehension in what one reads and also what one regularly sees on this board can easily bring one to the right conclusion. Besides which, when FULL info is not given at the beginning conclusions will be drawn by others reading and deciding for themselves.

If it wasn't caught in my long reply... I'm just trying to do right for the client by giving them a "stereo" recording, not just a left channel recording. Again, I understand its not stereo, its basically a "mono" piped thru both channels the same. That's what I want. That's what the client wants. They said they are fine with just left channel, but I know they would be happier with the recording coming thru Left and Right channels.

Ttown2,
I want to thank you for your candid explanation. It throws a completely new light on things at this point. If you are going to use that recorder again, you will need a TRUE Mono input or special stereo patch cord/Summed mono Patch Cord, as the Zoom can also record in Stereo. Remember, one side out from a Stereo Component such as a mixer does not equal Mono. First switch the Mixer to Mono or if you are using a Live mixer, use one of the "Sends". I hope this helps.

I was thinking of something like this as a patch cord moving forward to elimintate this from happening when using my Zoom H2N to capture sound off of a mixer:

What do you all think about this?
JUST DON"T USE IT BACKWARDS! That cord you showed was meant to be this way ..The Mini Pin Plugged into the out of the first Component and the two XLRs plugged into the left and right of the second component's inputs. You Should not connect the XLRs to the Mixer's Out and the Mini pin to your recorder. There are specialized cables made just for that. Go to NLFX PRO our site sponsor and ask him to build a special cable for you.

Ok, just copy the channel you have onto the other channel and invert it that's all you can do and see what adjustments sre needed.

polishing a turd in this case is better than not. Lesson learned hope it helps someone else on the site in the future to avoid such a situation.

Polish a turd all ya want - it's still a turd.

In the ways of the almighty Canute, according to the book of Houston: If it looks like a Turd, smells like a Turd and moves like a Turd - then it's a Turd.

:)

Edit: In the ways of the almighty Canute, according to the book of Houston: If it looks like a Turd, smells like a Turd and lays there like a Turd - then it's a Turd.

but a two sided turd is more natural than half a turd. Often you wonder who in hell delivered that offering or that whomever might need to have a doctor check that.

A turd does not move!

How does one polish a turd?
