Bob, Thanks for your inpuit. The first link I posted .....that unit also converts to VGA along with RGB Component YpBpR. I believe that the one Steve posted looks like it will do the job.Look at the link you posted - there is a DC power jack on that unit for it's 12V wall wart power supply. You can't convert digital to analog without a power source.
A bigger issue is that unit only converts to RGB Component YpBpR and you have no control over the resolution or sync modes. It will not be compatible with all the devices you might encounter.
What you want is a video scaler with an DVI or HDMI input. Then you can output as RGB, RGBs, RGsB, RGBHV, VGA, SVGA, XGA, etc. as needed, and change the sync mode match whatever display device you are using.

I have 26" Vizio Flat Screen TV/Monitor that has HDMI, VGA, Component, Composite, S-Video and Cable Inputs. I am looking at the converter to have just in case I need it. I have cables in different lengths up to 50' for every type of connection along with powered/amplified splitters.I may just buy a Projector and Screen so I don't have to depend on the Venue's TV. Or maybe use my projector if their's is not accessible or compatible.The problem you can encounter is that a lot of display devices have a D-sub (15 pin) connector - but, it is RGsB not VGA. Worse, they often mark them as just "RGB" and if the device can't auto-detect the sync-mode you need another way to figure and correct for it. So, if you are moving around among different displays test them ahead of time to make sure the input is exactly what you think it is.

I will remember that however, I would rather my Performer's Screen work, the one that I carry. The other/venue's screen is for the audience. I know it is almost equally important, because it adds to the excitement. When the Lyrics command their attention with the singers words.If you have an event somewhere with a display whose D-sub configuration is unknown - just go there and connect a laptop's VGA port and see what happens. If the TV won't work but has a menu option to change the sync mode..set it to RGBHV, VGA, or SVGA.

I got it covered now Bob, I can connect or convert just about any format to just about any input on any TV. S Video is what I used to use but lots of new TVs no longer have S Video inputs.For karaoke I always use older refurbished laptops with an S-video TV out. with a Y/C combiner/splitter as your switcher you are essentially running composite video which can connect to anything. That's all the quality you need for karaoke graphics and all this outdated gear is dirt cheap. Laptops under $200 and old Extron or Kramer switchers that once cost a fortune can be found dirt cheap on Ebay as facilities upgrade to digital. The best way to make money is to simplify and use the least amount of technology necessary to accomplish your goal.
I get longer and non stop Karaoke sets that way unlike the tinny sound from a system with just two speakers.
Some of us can make 2 speakers sound pretty darn good.
