The HD2500 has jog wheels so its just like having a dual cd player.
Any controller or device with Jog Wheels will give you the same experience as a Dual CD deck.
The HD2500 can be used by itself. Some Controllers like the RMX Hercules like Steve uses is hooked up to VDJ. Kyle uses Serato with 2 CDJs. Some use DAC2 controllers (also look like dual CD controllers) with their PCDJ.
If you use Viny or CD Table or Dual CD decks, any device with 1 or 2 Jog wheels will almost be the same across the board.
I think what you should be looking for or trying out is Software that you are comfortable with. This is where it changes for a lot of us. How a file is searched , the layout of the screen, how fast it searches, reliabilty, ease of use etc...
Once you find a program you really like, there a a lot of ways to add controllers...
