Learning DMX in a 1 on 1 situation....

Assuming you know DMX fairly well, how long would it take you to teach someone the basics in a 1 on 1 training session? And then, assuming they learned the basics, how long until they could really do more than just the basics?

Back in 2008, in Vegas, I tried to learn it at Ben's class, but my controller was actually broken, and I couldn't follow along... Still haven't figured it out.... But now I have about 4 DMX able lights and I figure that I should learn it..... FINALLY.

Jamstars, Vue III, An acrobat that may or may not be working properly..... and just one of those basic 100 controllers.... I thin k it is Chauvet.
 
Papa - it's not hard at all for simplistic lighting fixtures...I wouldn't bother with the Vue 3....too complex to replicate the patterns...you could though use your controller to run it in sound active and assign that to a separate chase...
What controller do you have?
 
A couple of hours max and I can teach you addressing, the basics and how to make most stuff work, a lifetime to get really good at it. I think software is easier than hardware, but that is just me.

A basic Chauvet, I believe. I haven't even looked at it in a year.
