I know a DJ that uses a Bose Sound System.

To many ads? Support ODJT and see no ads!
There is a creamatorium next door to us i just tell them if they dont book i can show them what hell feels like

How many drivers does a tower have to loose to be noticeable or swapped out for another tower?

Maybe all the drivers are in sequence and when you lose one they all go out?

I like my EV.:sqwink:

I'm an EV addict as well. I was actually one of the first to mention it on the forum....I'm wunnerful.

Serious time: Cesar, you know darn well that a salesman doesn't sell against other products or services ( i.e., you don't sell your services by saying the other DJs suck..). Sell YOUR equipment and sound positively, and never mention the competition in a bad light. If your system sounds great, let it be known. Throw in some customer referrals if you want. Impress or befuddle ( depending on the groom's technical knowledge) with your system specs. If you have played top venues, let him know.

Instead of negative selling the competition, POSITIVE sell yourself..

Kyle's not kidding folks - his new office is the other half of a building that houses a crematorium. When we were moving him into his new digs earlier this week, the guys that work for him all asked the same thing - "What's on the other side of this locked door?"........We both answered the same thing - "You don't want to know".

Now back to the topic at hand -

Cesar -

I honestly think you know the answer to this question already -

You don't sell against the Bose. You sell YOURSELF and your ability to help the couple realize a dream for their special day. After all, when the couple walks out the door after their last dance, what they and their family members and guests are going to remember is what a good time they had and how the DJ (you) carried the night - not what the sound system looked like or sounded like.

Sell your professionalism. And if the Groom persists, then I would think he is more concerned with numbers and figures instead of having a good time.

Do you really think the Bride cares? I would bet the answer to that is "NO". It's her day.......the spotlight is going to be on her - not him.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

How many times have you heard a Bride say she can't make a appointment because her groom is not available?

How many times have you heard a Bride say the DJ was the Grooms job?

How many times have you had the Groom making most of the decisions on the music?

How many Grooms ask questions concerning the system compared to the Brides?

I'm looking for advice on HOW to sell against the Bose System. Of course all comments are appreciated.

Same thing with lights...
If this is more important to them, let them go.
Are they buying a product or a service?

Has the groom ever personally heard a Bose speaker or compared them side by side with another brand?

I'd tell them that's the DJs personal opinion. I think Realistic has better sound.
If you are a good salesman, you can tell them whatever it takes to convince them.

You're DJ skirt has the least wrinkles out of any other brand of skirts.

How many times have you heard a Bride say she can't make a appointment because her groom is not available?

Truthfully? NOT ONCE! I've been doing this professionally since 1994, and I can't remember EVER being told by a Bride that she can't make a planning session because her significant other couldn't be there.

How many times have you heard a Bride say the DJ was the Grooms job?

Since 1994? Maybe once.

How many times have you had the Groom making most of the decisions on the music?

Not even once!

How many Grooms ask questions concerning the system compared to the Brides?

They never do. It's really just not an issue with my couples. Perhaps it's because there is an equipment page on my website that describes with pictures what kind of equipment I use, perhaps it's because my reputation precedes me, perhaps it's because they really just don't care, it could be a number of reasons. I am NEVER asked about what kind of equipment I use.

I'm looking for advice on HOW to sell against the Bose System. Of course all comments are appreciated.

If you are really that concerned about how to sell against the L1 system, then sell the positives of your system and what is different about it and why.

That's the best I can do.

You just met Bill who is a groom that left my consultation 2 hours ago and was impressed with the 4 JBL Mpro415 coupled with the 2 Mpro 418 and he asks you point blank how will your Bose system stack up against mine - What will you say?

On your list of steps leading to showing your picture of your Bose system I made a comparison on my approach. I always enjoy seeing how DJs operate so thanks for sharing.

The following are your numbers in my order
9
6
17
1
2 - 5 - 10 are all done during my presentation
13 is my last

11
12
3
4 are never mentioned

14 occasionally happens and that would be as the B/G are leaving my office.

8
7
15
16
18 don't come into play

We live in two different DJ worlds. Today I met with the FOG who as a gift to the B/G picked out all the Cocktail and Dinner music for the Wedding Reception. He even sequenced the music also.

I will deal with over 150 B/G a year so I tend to see a lot of things not mentioned by other DJs.

So instead they use the excuse they are different and that the L1 system produces sound waves in such a radically different way from "normal" sound production that it can't be measured using conventional methods.

The Physics of Sound don't change regardless of brand name

Cesar,

NEVER HAPPENS! NO one ever discusses equipment with me. Your theoretical is amusing and IF it ever happened, I would just ask "Bill" if he wants 6 speakers at the function.

If so, you win. If not, I win.

Sorry, I can't follow along with the numbers thing right now, prepping for my radio show, but I'll try to match 'em up later.

Best,

Dave

I guess I would not do the numbers thing either. For me I would just say that the Bose sound system is an excellent sound system. Just as mine is an excellent sound system as well. But because a DJ/MC is more than the sum of his equipment.

And then just proceed to tell them of your years of vast experience and your fantastic MC skills. Even though I own the Bose I don't use it like wow its the end all and mother of all systems. I usually drop the name like I would If I did a party for maybe someone famous that I'm pretty sure they have heard about.

I really would not say anything bad against anyone else or the system unless they really sucked. And the Bose does not. If they continue to get hung up on the system and the stats then let it go. Or call Cap buy a 2 L-1 4 B-1 combo and add it to your arsenal. Then its just one more thing that might land you the Job for those type of people.

You know you have to remember that to the bride who might not even have heard of Bose the selling point I use is high quality sound and a elegant system that will do nothing but enhance the look of her event. Sometimes that's all she cares about.

laws of physics don't change. the Laws of reality don't change either. Some people are happy with their system and have no problem telling people why their system is good and letting customers listen and judge for themselves

While some people would rather spend their time trying to convince customers and other djs that equipment that you think sound great, looks good, and you like to use is junk.

If you notice, most people that own L1's are very happy with it(Suckers!!!) Their customers love it(Fools!!) They don't need to try to put down other equipment.

Whatever equipment you use, either be happy with it or change it.

BTW, here's another meter you may try using. It's called a customer satisfaction survey. People always comment on the sound and the look....much more than they did with my JBLs..which were very fine speakers. They don't comment on the physics or what the meter they brought with them said.

About 2 this year.

------------------

I've been booked by the groom 4 times this year and never talked to the bride till the reception. An email or two, but didn't meet or talk to her

-------------

-------------
Doubt that ever happens

-------------
How many Grooms ask questions concerning the system compared to the Brides?
------------
Definitely more grooms ask about the system, but during one meeting with the B&G, MOB, FOB, AOB (aunt of bride), COB (cousin of bride) and a couple of others, I was showing the bride some setup pics talking about lighting and she said, " Oh Snap, you have the BOSE system, cool" (Yes she was a young bride)

As stated above don't, sell yourself, but if the system helps I'm not going to fight it.

I'm with you Scott I love my system. At times I do get tired of the bashers but it was by far the best thing we did for our business.

I tease the "BOSE'ers" (not bash), only because I want them! :sqlaugh:

The truth is, I have 4 working speakers and I am a working DJ. Nothing is broken that the Bose would fix. I want them for vanity and that's just not worth the 4K.

I think the clients would appreciate their quality, but I don't think they would make me any more busy. I also refuse to bump my rates to compensate for upgrades. Alas, I"ll have to wait for extra dough.

Hey, how about a "Logos for Bose" campaign?
