I wanted so badly to answer a post with a pic again. Isn't there ANYONE here that can tell me why my "Manage Attachments" button won't do anything? It depresses when I click it, and nothing. I've tried using the control key with the click-nothing. It's like it's disconnected... ANYONE? PLEASE?

Joe,

This happens to me on occasion. Try refreshing the page then hit the Manage Attachments button again. That usually does it for me. :dontknow:

My Summary Response.

Okay, the votes are in. Without a doubt the clear winner is Sound Clarity. Those who voted, had inadvertently placed themselves in the position of an audience judging. No specific criteria was given out, and this was done on purpose. This was not meant to be a scientific exercise. It was simply meant to be a quiz on what the average person may do when presented with said scenario. It goes without saying then that neither coverage no power is an immediate factor. The Brand Label and the Size comes in a distant second and third. So in other words, to regular folk, those two criteria do not really matter.

CLARITY & BRAND:
You guys chose for your selves, so now you can see that given equal opportunity, if your sound system has great clarity, then you are way ahead of the game. At the beginning, some people even admitted that for the most part clients don't know the difference between the brands.

CMWAT Quoted: "in my opinion,a client just wants good clear sound basically.for the most part they dont know a bose different from a xxx no name equipment(most of them)."

jokerswild Quoted: "Well that might be debateable..... but, I also didn't choose name brand because in a blind test the client being unable to see the name wont care.

Thunder Quoted: "The vast majority of the general public is not going to notice the brand of the speakers used in a venue (if you don't believe this do a poll of people leaving a concert and ask them what brand of speakers were used at the concert) For the most part the only ones interested in the brand are techs, musicians and DJs."

Ausumm Quoted: "if the sound/clarity SUCKS...NONE of the other qualities are gonna matter. the purpose of a sound system is to play music."

Fred Wright Quoted: "In all honesty, OU812 and the others are right. DJ companies are paid to play prerecorded music. The customer and guests are not being unreasonable when expecting a certain quality in tonal response from our services. In our experience, varied mix what people compliment us on. Our system tone.

Not how loud it is or can be. Not because it's aesthetic (it isn't). And certainly not due to the brand. We don't display logo plates anymore ~ they've been removed."

The point here is that lots of time there are pissing matches here on the Board about Brands when some of those same people who voted for Clarity tout Brands as a selling factor. So they need to ask themselves, can they get equal clarity by spending less?

SIZE & POWER:
Next up is the fact that that some made comments that if they knew who the judges were or the size of the hall etc , they would go and make changes first. Again, some of the DJs on this board are specialists with specialized equipment, meaning that some people only do weddings. They have designed and purchased their systems to do mainly that. Which means, they have disqualified themselves from doing certain gigs, the equipment then will be inadequate to do very large functions. Isn't it better, to take that same money and have a varied mix of equipment which would make them more versatile? Those that have a mixture of several systems, all of which have a great clarity will fare better in the marketplace. They will be able to accept almost any gig with a few exceptions. Those that have the real big rigs, have everything to their best advantage and in their favor. They can configure a system from their collection of equipment. Some DJs, may have to go out and rent equipment to add to what they presently have, so that they can perform the task. If a wedding DJ, with the wedding type designed equipment, wants to do let's say, an outdoor gig, they may have to rent almost all different gear (everything as far as hardware) to do the event. High power systems, in my opinion do not mix well with wedding style equipment.

COVERAGE:
This is a relevant term, of course, it will be based upon the size of the event hall. Then again, it may be intertwined with Size and Power for the appropriate area that needs to be covered. However, not all event halls need to be filled with the music. Some clients are happy to have just the dance area filled with sound. A high school dance in a gym is different. Those kids, want to hear the sound, wherever they are, even in the damn bathrooms.

So to summarize, it all comes down to DJ preference. If a DJ was all about a certain brand or label, and that DJ was a judge that will be a very important factor in his decision making. Same thing for the other elements. What we all have to strive for, is quality. The key goal is to have the right size for the job at hand and to make sure that it sounds great. Even though some of the cheap gear may not stand up to the rigors of road readiness, it does not mean to say that they can't sound good. It will just cost the DJ more to have them replace more frequently. It won't have anything to do with the above critical elements.

Thank you all for the participation. I've learned a few things & confirmed a lot and I hope you did too!

Since this little test is merely your opinion it is clearly understood by me what you were looking for. As long as you're happy with what you are using then nothing else matters. I will say there are a few statements that although are opinion base, I have personal found them to be fact when choosing my system over others. And some are not going to like it, but I respect your opinions.

The Brand Label and the Size comes in a distant second and third. So in other words, to regular folk, those two criteria do not really matter.
In my case playing parties that size from 50 - 600 the above statement is incorrect. I have never had guests recognize a label of equipment more than the Bose name. Living only 12 miles from the Mountain I do get many people who work there at my functions so recognition is understandable. But the average person who sees the Bose label or know I use Bose recognizes the quality sound they've personally heard and come to expect. So in part the name recognition is a selling factor of the overall package. For me anyway, that's a fact.

As for size, this also has played a factor in using the Bose. First the old people. I don't have them trying to change their seats because their sitting right in front of me. They don't see the big speakers on a stick or the big square boxes stack on the floor, thinking their going loose what hearing they have left. Most don't even know the L1's are speakers. Again, this is just my opinion from my 3 years of using this system over others.

The point here is that lots of time there are pissing matches here on the Board about Brands when some of those same people who voted for Clarity tout Brands as a selling factor. So they need to ask themselves, can they get equal clarity by spending less?
You are correct here. Most of the pissing matches are from those who, for whatever reason, don't like Bose. No one said anyone had to like it or even use it. But when the Bose users post their opinions on the L1's benefits to our clients and business all hell seems to break loose. It just can't be true, they are to expensive, etc, etc, etc.

If spending less for speakers will allow anyone to stand 12" away while at high volumes and hold a conversation then I'd be glad to purchase them. If spending less for speakers will equally disperse the sound side to side, front to back then I'd be thrilled to buy them. If spending less for speakers meant my clients would have heard an equally impressive system in their home or car made by the same manufacturer then I'd be thrilled. Anyone know where I can find these.

I'm one who doesn't buy a system based on what other DJ's like or dislike on a chat board, DJ conference, or road show. I purchase what my listening audience is most receptive to. If that means I need to spend a bit more money to get them, then it's worth every penny.

As always, the above statements are of my own opinion. Now if I can just get my new compact L1's in I'll be as happy as a pig in s#$%.:sqerr:

Thank you for spending the time to conduct this unique poll.

It happened again tonight.
I played a fundraiser for a local church. It was an older venue and very echoie. One of the gentlemen who was there when I arrived saw the name on my bags and said "Bose, wow you've got the good stuff". Don't think he would have said that if the bags said JBL, but I could be wrong.

After I had them all setup he came up on stage to get a closer look. He was amazed at the setup. I then watched him walk around talking to people and pointing at the Bose. But what was more impressive as always, and since the majority of people were age 50+ not one person every asked to turn the music down, even during dinner. My JBL's would echo like crazy in this hall.

Even though the clarity of the Bose was far superior to anything I've ever used for this venue, it was the name recognition that made the first positive impression.

My Bose, I think I'll keep them.:sqwink:

I'm sorry, was this a Bose thread? I'm I posting in the wrong place again?

Ron, I do use Bose in a few of my configurations. I did a Birthday Pool Party last night (95% Classic Rock & Oldies) and used two Bose 802s outside and a Bose AWM for the the inside (Ran that connecting cord through the window.) Lots of people asked me for my business card, however not one mentioned the Brand. They came around my rack, laptop etc and complimented me on the music program. I guess if they liked the clarity they liked the Bose, eh!

The consensus again from my original is use what works for you just make sure it SOUNDS GREAT!

Ron, I bet the folks who live in the area where JBL is manufactured may have the same to say about jocks using that Brand. I used to live in Boston, Lots of people in Framingham and other areas are accustomed to the name Bose. Thats no surprise.

I am glad that you are happy with your purchase and choice. However all that I was trying to point out was the versatility that you couls have gotten from spending that same money on a wider variety of equipment. You are now limited to the scope of the capabilities of that system and would have to pass up on some gigs that the Bose you have won't be able to handle.

Nothing wrong with that, someone has to play for the geriatrics! LOL

What I wonder is why this seems to bother you to such a personal level. That little dig at the end of your post? I made no such personal attacks or tried to discredit any equipment you use. No offense here but when I go to sleep at night I'm not concerned what anyone uses for equipment. I use what works for me and what I know will perform best. Bose 802's aren't' it. I would waste the money on those. L1's however are worth every expensive penny.

It doesn't matter where you lived, it matters where you are now. It's obvious that not many people in your area are using Bose in their autos, homes, etc otherwise the Bose name recognition would obvious as well. Since JBL is not as popular with personal sound equipment as Bose then I wouldn't expect people to recognize the name. Those who own the Bose wave radio, surround sound, or auto sound system know there is very little that can match the sound quality of Bose. So when they see a unique system as the L1's along with the Bose name, they can relate. It's a winning situation for many of us Bose owners.

You are now limited to the scope of the capabilities of that system and would have to pass up on some gigs that the Bose you have won't be able to handle.
Since you are nowhere near my market I don't see this as a concern for you, but I appreciate the thought. I've used the Bose L1's double base with groups from 50 - 600 and had nothing but compliments. Since I have need to acquire jobs that would require a system that the Bose couldn't handle I have no worries. But again, thanks for the concern.

This little survey was trying to put other equipment up against the Bose L1 system. Although the names were never mention this last statement proved your intent. I've never see equipment upset so many people over it's use or it's ability. But I've also never seen so many people thrill at it's use as well. Of course that's based on personal opinion. So for what the Bose L1's have to offer all around, for many of us it's the most versatile system and worth every penny.

Hey! I think you are wrong on all those points. I did a children's indoor party today at a large estate style home. Yes indeed, the Bose L1 would have been a perfect fit there. I use the same rig as my pool party from last night. It was the Bose 802s again. Actually my Bose AWM would have done the job but I did not want the client to feel that the money they were paying was just for a one piece "box". Best of all I did not have to put the Bose speakers on stands. The built in Bookcase area was so large I emptied two compartments and placed the Bose as bookshelf speakers.

So I do use Bose you know. This is what I have always stated, there is definite place for each system. But they have their capabilities! Some are more versatile than others. The geriatic tease was just that, a tease. Don't get yer panties all up in a wad! My problem with some of the Bose threads is when their owners tout them as the "best"! Best for what? Thats what I want to know. Best for their owners yes! It couldn't be for everything!

Hey when you look back, I was using Bose before Bose was "kewl" In the late 70s for the 802s and in the mid 80s for the AWM when they had the cassette version. Mine includes CD player, the newer ones have MP3 players. So don't preach to me about the quality of Bose. OK!

And have I ever once said you were wrong? You have no proof I am wrong, just your opinion. You keep saying you know Bose but you only refer to the802's while we are talking about the L1 system. There is no comparison. As I said, I wouldn't waste the money on the 802's as there are many more systems that will out shine the 802's in both clarity, quality, and price. But when you talk about the "Bose people" touting they are the best, I as one of those Bose people are only talking about the L1 system.

The L1 system is the best I have ever used. For my uses I haven't heard another system that can do all around what the Bose L1's can do. I haven't seen a comparable system with regards to price that I know my clients will appreciate as much as the Bose L1's. Therefore in my opinion the Bose L1 is the best system I can use. And soon I will be using a better ceremony system than I am currently using, the Bose compact L1.

Until I find something that can do what the Bose L1 and compact L1 systems can do I am quite content knowing that for me they are the Best.

I don't look back, I look forward and the Bose L1's are here now. What you used doesn't matter to what I am using now. What I used back then doesn't matter to what I am using now. The quality of Bose only gets better through the years. What you might remember way back has nothing to do with what people are listening to now. Bose continues to progress their technology year after year and the L1's /compact L1's are proof. Now can I get an AMEN?

Ron,
Again you miss the point. I was not saying the 802s are good and the L1s are bad. I was just trying to remind you that I too am a Bose owner! Of course the new technology outshines that of the past. I was referring to the BRAND. If I did not already own a pair, I would not go out and buy one today.

I do not get paid for my skills because of a certain level of sound system's performance. Its actually a mixture of both skill and great sound no matter what brand I use. There is Bose, EV, JBL, DBX, Peavey etc in my lineup and at times there is a mixture. Carefully chosen by me for the right application, whichever ones I utilize will afford me excellent sound.

Nobody will come to yank me off the stage and accuse me of not using a specific brand or system. Most people won't care as long as you sound good. The curious audiophile may investigate a bit further is all. I respect you and the others who buy what they think is best for them just as much as those of us who drive different cars. They will all get you from point A to point B and that is the end result.

Maybe I should have made it quite simpler by responding to your post "Whatever!"

Ron,

Take a deep breath and count to ten, when you are calm I will continue

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. 8. 9. 9. 9. 9. 9. 9. 9. 9. damn Ron calm down!

Now that you have chilled some I am going to break some news to you that i posted on this subject a long time ago.

The Bose L1 is not a new technology that Bose came up with, it was something that was in use and had been designed many years ago long before Bose started using it. I would repost everything on the subject but it simply isn't worth the effort or argument!

The only thing that really counts in the end is if you are or are not happy with what you have, it really doesn't matter if it is Bose 802 or the Bose L1, it doesn't matter if it is EV or Dynacord, It doesn't matter if it is JBL or Gemini, it doesn't matter if it is Peavey or Turbo sound, the only thing that really matters is your perception of your gear, because frankly the general public couldn't care less about what we use as long as they have fun at their events.

Since I'm not the one who started this thread in order to prove something against the New Bose L1 system and their owners(at least 4 years new) there's no need to calm down. I'm not the one getting upset over people who know Bose L1 is a much superior system compared to others used in a similar manner for similar functions.

My problem with some of the Bose threads is when their owners tout them as the "best"! Best for what?
And who needs to calm down? I think you're counting to the wrong person. As you can see I'm not the one who has a problem with someone owning certain equipment. And it's just that equipment. And in my opinion the Bose L1 is the best system I've ever used for my types of events.

frankly the general public couldn't care less about what we use as long as they have fun at their events.
The publics first concern is that they have fun at their events. But when you mention you use top quality high end Bose sound system, boy do their ears perk up. They know what type of sound they are going to experience. How? Because most have experienced the same amazing sound in their living rooms, bedrooms, cars, etc. Bose is the name that the general public have come to recognize and can understand. At least here in my area anyway. Your experiences may differ. Those other brands you've mentions are just jumbled up letter to them. You might as well be speaking Japanese.

So, as amazed as I am with the sound, quality, and clarity of the Bose L1's I am more amazed at those who get so upset over people raving about a great system. As has been stated, "it's only equipment".

The above are merely my opinions and are not based on any scientific studies or chat room surveys.

Bose, it's what's for dinner.

Trust me Ron is not a man who could only stand behind his speakers LOL. his mouth would stand out even beyond the Dynacord systems. LOL ya BHB.

Ron,

I don't think I saw anyone here say that Bose is junk in fact most stated it is a fine system for what it is.

BTW do you know what the most recognized name is in PA gear amoung the general public?

See that's what has got Ron going... it's those back handed compliments like "for what it is."

All I can say is that this sort of pisses me off too.
