Favorite Martin Light Fixture

Yes.

Martin makes GREAT lights. I have a number of Martin fixtures and they are definitely commercial lighting fixtures designed to last for a VERY long time in nasty environments (clubs full of smokers).

As a Mobile DJ though, my power is sometimes quite limited. That being the case, I'm quite happy with my PR-1 gobo projector. Their moving heads and scanners are great but I'm trying to move to all led fixtures for that... Now if they'd only put in LED's on those EFX 600's... ;)

Yes were is their LED lights? I had an entire martin line up until I got sick of carrying them around & I learned about LED. Now I have mostly American DJ lights- but some times I still miss my Martins.

I can't see how Martin can be doing well in this economy especially since the haven't gone LED.

I feel so much LIGHTER since I don't have all this heavy gear to tote around. Not one of my lights weights more than 10 pounds & I use Bose L1's- enough said!

Martin makes fixtures that LAST. Theatre and night clubs are still buying them. Some mobile DJ's will buy them. But Martin is slowly moving to LED fixtures. Their PAR is a SWEET IP65 rated fixture that does RGBAW color mixing but it retails for about $5000.

It's worth it - but it's overkill for what I do. Martin just isn't as quick to crank out a fixture to make a buck and then dump it.

They last & yet they all come with only a one year warrany where as my American DJ lights come with a three year warranty. Silly but true.

Martin use to be the winner in DJ lighting & now they are the losers. Maybe they are making enough money else where, (like the places you mentioned) so they don't care.

Oh well their loss ADJ & Chauvets gain.

While it's comforting to know they all come with warranties, I still chose Martin because there's a 98% chance I'll never have to take them up on it (meaning less downtime for me waiting for a replacement fixture)
Spin-up companies will come 'n go and make their quick buck. Companies who do their time in R&D and produce solid, reliable fixtures are those who will remain in the game for years to come.

I do think the Martin scanners can't be beat. But for moving heads etc there are some good choices out there for a fraction of the price of the Martins.

The EFX series is nice though, and the other companies don't really have anything like that right now, (Aside from the ADJ LED Express).

My lighting setup is gonna be a mix between newer LED lights, and some Martin Halogen fixtures. I want to be able to hopefully use 2 circuits max when at a venue and be done.

Cant go wrong with anything Martin. They still sell alot of lighting for big tours as well. I dont think mobile DJs are a real concern for them. I have had the T-Rex, Raptor and the EFX600. Like them all. I happen to have an EFX600 in real nice shape I would like to move. If anyone is interested, please PM me.

Don't get me wrong, I love Martin. My Acrobats together with their MC-1 controller are killer. Fast forward to the new millennium... If Martin had any common sense left at all, they would have come out with a Mania series moving head and an easy-controller similar to the MC-1 that would work with the Mania line of DMX fixtures.

I am using Martin D-28.I Highly recommend the Martin D28.This is really the best Martin I ever played. This will save your money.

I love the EGO Martin range of lights. There are 5 different EGO projectors. They come in a plastic case, so are lighter.Unfortunately the EGO series is discontinued as are many Martin effects lights.Competition was too great from LED & cheaper alternatives.

Martin Lighting

I love my scx-500's.But sometimes don't want to be bothered with the setup and take down.American dj LED's to the rescue.

Nice affect, Wes. Sounds pretty good too.

Darn! Can't recall the artist and song. Brain cramp! Help.

I would take Martin any day over Chauvet, Eliminator, Venue, and American DJ. Martins are built-to-last. Their customer service is stellar too. I had to send in my SCX-500 (even after the warranty ended), and they repaired it at no cost.

Yes, Martin fixtures tend to be heavier and more expensive than those other lighting manufacturers. One of my DJs have RoboScans and RoboColors, and they have served him well for almost a decade. They are THAT good.

I'm eager to see how Martin moves into LED fixtures.

We rent a lot of Mac 250s out for wedding use. Typically they end up on top of a stick of box truss, which is covered in a spandex sock with a truss warmer (LED Par). This is a lot of work, but looks great!

The PR1 could give you an upsell opportunity (or another light that you can insert a custom gobo). Having the fixture, you could offer to have the bride and groom's name projected on the wall. All you'd need is to order a custom gobo and pass the cost along.

Effect wise, if you don't have scanners already, I'd say go with the SCX series.

FYI the new Mac 350 Entours are LED fixtures. I had the chance to demo one last month and I can say that it's an impressive light!
