Cheaper only means that we decided it wasn't worth double the money for a brushed aluminum skin and limited compatibility with industry software. I don't know where you find information, but you certainly have a very tainted view.

Macs ARE NOT immune to viruses ( http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/...ter-virus-indicates-mac-users-no-longer-safe/), are NOT the king of the performance heap (though I will grant that the retina display is probably tops), nor are any of the issues you list present in any of my systems.

I CHOOSE the pragmatic route ... better compatibility, more options and a non-controlled price.

DJMM - I list my equipment solely so brides can see that I use "pro" level gear.....To some grooms; they may understand.

I don't believe in 6 years I have ever been asked by a bride what brand of laptop I use, let alone what brand. We don't talk gear at all. I let them know I have the equipment to do their event (as well as back up).

Show me one report (and the above doesn't count as it's obviously something put together by a Mac advocate) that says conclusively that Macs are more reliable.

I can speak from MY experiences; I've never had a Windows PC fail at a gig - Honestly, I read the boards a lot and can't say I've seen a staggering number of instances where Windows based machines have failed....

I have to laugh at the stats you posted, especially "Compatibility". Why do you think a Mac runs Windows? Apple realizes that they have very little software out there that the public in general wants. Heck, they even got MS to make Office for them.....

Ah, so that is how you define "cheaper". Since you brought it up, the brushed aluminum may be considered slightly better than plastic by some people. Your laptop accidentally drops off of the table and lands on plastic or lands on aluminum. Which would you like to happen?

Not sure what you mean by "limited compatibility with industry software". Name me ONE major dj software "player" that does not offer a Mac version. Just one is all I ask for.

Who EVER said that Macs don't get viruses? I certainly did not. However, for every one mac virus, there are OVER a half a million PC viruses. Again, I like the odds of that!

So you choose better compatibility? Explain please... better compatibility with what? Software? Hardware? Controllers?

More options? What do you mean? More Ram? Bigger hard drive?

A non-controlled price? Do you mean, the manufacturer not controlling the price?

Rick, that is your "intelligent" comeback to my posts...

Best I could do at the moment -- haven't made today's beer run yet... xf:D

So you tell me that YOUR OWN software that you personally have developed has driver issues with some systems.

Not at all -- my software gets its info from the OS, it does not directly interface with hardware or drivers -- that's why it plays happily with the other kids on the playground. :)

The issue with those Gigaport drivers, is that the installer would crash trying to load on a 64 bit OS. So yes, I would blame that on the person who wrote the driver installer and/or drivers.

BTW, I happen to have a Mac -- it's in a box somewhere. Don't like the way the OS works, seems counter intuitive to me. It seems to want me to change the way I work, in order to suit itself. I'm comfortable with the way I work currently.

Ah, so that is how you define "cheaper". Less expensive, and usually much more so, for the same specs Since you brought it up, the brushed aluminum may be considered slightly better than plastic by some people. Your laptop accidentally drops off of the table and lands on plastic or lands on aluminum. Which would you like to happen? Given that neither will do much to limit damage, I'd go with the less expensive one .. I can easily change the lid on my Dell to many nifty colored ones.

a few in red above.

I don't believe in 6 years I have ever been asked by a bride what brand of laptop I use, let alone what brand. We don't talk gear at all. I let them know I have the equipment to do their event (as well as back up).

In your six years, you have never told a bride about your equipment but yet it is one of the main bullet points on your website? Seems like you tell every bride who looks at your website.

There are HUNDREDS, if not thousands of comparison charts that support the Mac/PC debate. If it does not support your position, you have proven that they are unreliable by your comment "the above doesn't count as it's obviously something put together by a Mac advocate".

Hey Steve, you don't get to choose which data is reliable or not based on your position. Show me a report that shows PC is more reliable. Show me ONE based on real statistical data.

Ah, you have never had a Windows PC FAIL AT A GIG! What does THAT mean! Here is my statement... I have never had my Macbook Pro's fail me EVER! Gig or not at a gig.

My goodness... what boards are you reading that don't have a TON of failures of PC's? DJ boards? Hop on over to the Virtual DJ boards and look at the PC section. Hop on over to the Traktor forums? Do a 5 minute comparison. Macs are NOT perfect but when you compare their real "issues" with PC's, you can't help but be overwhelmed.

Mac's run windows because they can and users asked for that! How is that a disadvantage? If anything, that is a HUGE advantage for Mac. Also, to set your assumptions straight, it was Microsoft that chose to do a Mac version, not the other way around. Mac has their own office software that ironically exports to ANY format, including pdf... right out of the box.

With all due respect Rick, how do your sales compare with Virtual DJ, Traktor, PCDJ, etc...

Well, based on statistics and your numbers previously, there should be at least 1700% more PC problems than Mac ones, given there are 18 times as many.

djmm - Not saying the MBP or any mac is inferior, just saying it's not superior .. just a well designed, stylish, more expensive alternative. If the features are worth the money to you .. fine .. same reason I bought my iDevices over the competition .. I just don't declare them SUPERIOR.

So, you are saying that if a plastic laptop fell off the table and an aluminum laptop fell off the table, the damage would be the same? And if the plastic one broke, you justify it by saying that you can simply buy a new plastic cover? Wow!

Not sure what you mean by "limited compatibility with industry software". Name me ONE major dj software "player" that does not offer a Mac version. Just one is all I ask for. Rockit Pro DJ
Do you consider Rick's software in the same category as Virtual DJ and Traktor? Based on sales?

Who EVER said that Macs don't get viruses? I certainly did not. You said it in post 12 above However, for every one mac virus, there are OVER a half a million PC viruses. Again, I like the odds of that!
Again, where did I say that Mac's never get viruses? I clearly said "For every ONE mac virus, there are a half a million PC viruses".

So you choose better compatibility? Explain please... better compatibility with what? Software? Hardware? Controllers?

More options? What do you mean? More Ram? Bigger hard drive? Choice of processor families, graphics cards, interfaces (expresscard and such)
Ah, so processor families are important to you, as well as different graphic cards... Can you explain this further? How would a different graphics card or different processor family benefit your use of ANY dj software?

Replies in Blue...

Oh, and do you mean this expresscard that is clearly displayed on a Macbook Pro?

Sorry but I am a stickler on details... so let's get this right...

I never said "Well, based on statistics and your numbers previously, there should be at least 1700% more PC problems than Mac ones, given there are 18 times as many."

I said VIRUSES! And I 100% stand by my statement!

LOL I love this thread. For once I am not the Prime Target! LOL :)

With all due respect Rick, how do your sales compare with Virtual DJ, Traktor, PCDJ, etc...

Probably on par with Traktor or PCDJ...

Some years are better than others, as with any business. I don't have the advertising budgets of either (I like buying tube gear and beer) :)

VDJ and Serato seem to hold the majority of market share these days. VDJ caters to the bedroom DJs, so that makes sense -- and Serato caters to club DJs. I cater to working wedding DJs (smaller market).

Oh, and do you mean this expresscard that is clearly displayed on a Macbook Pro?
Ok .. I'll give you the Express card, but I had a choice of that or PC Card when I ordered the Dell.

So, you are saying that if a plastic laptop fell off the table and an aluminum laptop fell off the table, the damage would be the same? And if the plastic one broke, you justify it by saying that you can simply buy a new plastic cover? Wow! I'm saying the aluminum one may be dented and yes, I can swap the designed to be swapped cover on my Dell if needed and I'm saying neither is much protection for a major drop.

Do you consider Rick's software in the same category as Virtual DJ and Traktor? Based on sales? Based on performance and the fact you asked for just one that didn't work on a MAC and since I had it, it was the first that came to mind.

Again, where did I say that Mac's never get viruses? I clearly said "For every ONE mac virus, there are a half a million PC viruses". Again, In post #12 above (see the first page of this thread) you said "No drivers to mess with, no blue screens, no viruses..."

Ah, so processor families are important to you, as well as different graphic cards... Can you explain this further? How would a different graphics card or different processor family benefit your use of ANY dj software? All I was showing is I can have a laptop in almost any flavor and a mac is only available in apple-flavor. To each their own.

I have no ground to stand on Rick so I will simply take your word for it.

VDJ caters to bedroom dj's? We will certainly disagree on that point, considering it is by far the most used dj software on the planet. I would also say that MANY more wedding dj's use VDJ than your software. Would you agree?

I noticed you did not comment about your own postings on your website where you clearly say that your own software has issues with drivers, as well as other PC related issues. I am not pointing the finger at your software at all, but rather supporting my claim that PC's often take MUCH configuration and tweaking to get them even to work with a simple sound card. Based on your own comments, can we at least admit that this is the case?

Sorry but I am a stickler on details... so let's get this right...

I never said "Well, based on statistics and your numbers previously, there should be at least 1700% more PC problems than Mac ones, given there are 18 times as many."

I said VIRUSES! And I 100% stand by my statement!
No I did .. you listed a whole litany of issues and using your sales numbers, I just said statistics would expect 18 times the number of problem PCs than Macs given there are 18 times as many out there.

Ok .. I'll give you the Express card, but I had a choice of that or PC Card when I ordered the Dell.

- So you think the aluminum will dent? It won;t until it gets to 6-8 feet. That is a fact. Also, it is equally as easy to change the screen bezel on a Macbook Pro.

Do you consider Rick's software in the same category as Virtual DJ and Traktor? Based on sales? Based on performance and the fact you asked for just one that didn't work on a MAC and since I had it, it was the first that came to mind.
-With all due respect, I do not consider Rick's software a major player. Let's get back to the fact... ALL MAJOR DJ SOFTWARE supports Mac. That is a fact!

Again, where did I say that Mac's never get viruses? I clearly said "For every ONE mac virus, there are a half a million PC viruses". Again, In post #12 above (see the first page of this thread) you said "No drivers to mess with, no blue screens, no viruses..."
-okay... mince my words how you want. One question, answer one question, is it more likely for you or me to get a virus on your computer?

Ah, so processor families are important to you, as well as different graphic cards... Can you explain this further? How would a different graphics card or different processor family benefit your use of ANY dj software? All I was showing is I can have a laptop in almost any flavor and a mac is only available in apple-flavor. To each their own.
Hold on... what is the advantage in having the choice then? The fact is, the software we use requires no super duper processor and no extreme graphics card. I know several video dj's that have a basic Macbook Pro and video runs perfect! No extra stuff to buy. It just runs.

No I did .. you listed a whole litany of issues and using your sales numbers, I just said statistics would expect 18 times the number of problem PCs than Macs given there are 18 times as many out there.

I am a fairly smart guy and I have no clue what you are talking about.

I am a fairly smart guy and I have no clue what you are talking about.

The more of something there is .. the more likely there will be an issue. Quality control says maybe 2 % of an item might fail in the first year ... that would say that given there are lots more PCs, it would follow there would be lots more issues.

You indicated that you read about PC issues all the time .. and I was just mentioning that there would normally be more PC issues given there is a boatload more of them to have issues with.
