Sure you can upgrade the hard drive.

The ram, not so sure. But really, who needs 16 gigs of ram for dj'ing. Guys get away with 2 gigs now and look at what the software can do.

Having more than 8 gigs of ram is the least of my worries.

But listen, you have never seen a more slick dj machine until you have seen a Macbook Pro with a terabyte hard drive and 8 gigs of ram.. I would love for you to just see one of my machines work.
At the point of ordering .. but YOU can't upgrade it later .. Apple would have to .. the machines aren't meant to be disassembled easily (at least the new MBP).

Again .. I agree they're slick machines and if you have the spare change, go for it.

Exactly Steve but 8 gigs of ram should hold you for quite a while.

That's what you think. My next desktop and gigging laptop will sport 16gb.

Djmm... I'm getting the impression that your lumping ALL pc users together. There are many, many cheap very under achieving pc's out there. A MBP is expensive, and considered HIGH END.

So, comparing should be an....(oh boy) Apples to Apples comparo don't cha think??

It's not a secret that Mac's are great for video editing and what not...And yes at that price they SHOULD be.

But i know pleanty of people that use HIGH END, PC based machines for the same work..
And LOTS of the problems on the VDJ boards are from people trying to do lots of things with VDJ, that DO NOT have enough horsepower under there PC's Hood...Thats a FACT.

I also know a good friend of mine had a not so great time getting the "mac" version of VDJ 6.3
to cooperate with his I-Mac. The "Mac" version had half of the features of my PC version. And seeing VDJ on my rig is why he wanted it in the first place!! He was rather pissed.

I have some MBP type of cash invested in my rack mount PC, but haven't had an issue with it since it was built 3 years ago. It runs cool, has pleanty of horsepower, and if it DOES have an issue, it's VERY easy to fix. I don't have to send it to Apple.

And the whole MBP thing really seems to cater to the poser DJ's that have to have them front and center so everyone can see how "hip" they are..(Dj Pauly D) lol

You sir are a Kool-Aid drinker. Mac's have there place, But for you to think your Mac is more reliable or "superior" to my PC for DJ work is complete BS

For DJing my 17" MBP works great, and removing the dvd drive allowed to add a second ssd. The only thing I wished the new one had was two drives instead of a single 512GB or 768GB drive. The 12 month free financing is up on my MBP in August so when I pay it off I might just get the new 15 since they still have the 12 month free financing. The 15" will be much better for traveling as I love working on things while on the road.

And I am not a MAC person, I hate mac people. I use windows and linux for everything but my DJing. I just find the MBP works best with traktor for me. Hell my windows boxes cost way more than my MAC's. My last PC build with a 990x and evga x58 classified with quad sli and 4 water cooling loops was well over 5k and you could not buy one of my servers for the cost of a fully loaded MBP. Price is all relative to what the items worth is to you. I see no value in an iPhone so you could not pay me to use one.

I for one am in the PC camp. And also, noted that all of the 'big deal' DJs use Mac. I am currently evaluating the Mac OS for DJ duty and maybe, get a MBP for my lightweight system vs having Toshiba or HP facing the crowd. Let's face it. What to the high end planners carry with them? Not Android or HP, but an iPad. The higher priced demographic I cater to is Mac centric vs PC. I despise all things Apple and devices that have an 'i' as their 1st initial. However, they bring the 'cool factor' and appeal to the 'fanboi snobs' vs sporting a Dell. While they see the aluminum w/ illuminated Apple, I'll be running Windows 7. :)

slap a white fruit logo over the Dell/HP and most will never know ...

So now the laptops will have a battle... haha!

PC's are great if you like to spend hours configuring them. Why does each software company post ways to make your pc run better with their software. On Mac's, they just work. Sure, there are ways to tweak a Mac but 95% of the time, you just plug them in. No drivers to mess with, no blue screens, no viruses... I am going to check through Rick's posts to see how often he answers PC related problems...
I'm a Mac user and may never go back to PC but I can post more than one but crash dump report of a BSD. Macs can and will fail too. If they don't, you wouldn't take two of them with you. PC's are great as well. There are many reasons I like Mac over PC but long life is not one of them. So far every PC I have ever used has outlived all of the Macs. Just saying...
