Apple's new MBP dubbed "the least repairable laptop [ever]" by iFixit.

I am not pointing the finger at your software at all, but rather supporting my claim that PC's often take MUCH configuration and tweaking to get them even to work with a simple sound card. Based on your own comments, can we at least admit that this is the case?

Gee, I certainly hope not, because Rockit works very well -- that's why I do not need to upgrade it like the French every month or two ;)

As to the second part, it's mainly user issues. Let's face it, there's a gazillion PC users, and many are not the brightest bulbs under the sea when it comes to computers.

haha.. justify it however you want. I am talking a comparison of machine to machine, not accounting for the ratio.

A single Macbook Pro is more reliable than a single PC. Period!

Back to booking more brides...! Nice debate guys. I mean ABSOLUTELY no disrespect to anyone. You are ALL consummate professionals and I appreciate the willingness to debate the issue in a respectful manner.

Hold on... what is the advantage in having the choice then? The fact is, the software we use requires no super duper processor and no extreme graphics card. I know several video dj's that have a basic Macbook Pro and video runs perfect! No extra stuff to buy. It just runs.
I like my iPad, but would certainly prefer the choice to have it MY way. I would like a SD card slot, simple USB compatibilty to devices without going through a series of steps, printer connectivity, etc. But I don't have those choices becasue Apple won't give them to me and will void my warranty if I decide to do it (or heaven forbid unlock my operating system). The MB/MBP work fine .. but with only 1 manufacturer allowed to make them, you don't have the opportunity to use something else if you want to .. Apparently you don't want to.

Driver issues are user problems... I think not. PC drivers just often times don't work.

I did not "get" your reference to the French. Sorry. I have not seen an "update" from VDJ or Traktor in a while.

THAT is why I own an ASUS Transformer. But even that does not have USB connectivity without a dock.

Commenting on your second statement... well, that would be like Ford allowing Chevy to make their cars. They all use engines, transmissions and doors... but brand is everything.

But getting back to your comment... Virtual DJ hasn't been updated in a year or two. You said they update it every few months and that is simply not true. I know, I use it.

As far as Made In The USA... I am all for that but I am also a realist. Every piece of gear WE use is made in another country. (blanket statement, may not be 100% accurate).

I have no problem with my software being made in France just like you have no problem using a cd player or midi controller made in China.

No lets get back on topic..... If you get the new Macbook Apple has got you by the knutz... You have to fork over extra money either up front (Applecare) or after the fact if you want to upgrade any aspect of your computer. Even Ford or Chevy allows you to use aftermarket service or parts from other vendors without voiding the cars warrantee.

You can even (heaven forbid) use a Walmart oil filter without voiding the warranty on either a Ford or Chevy.

Steve... if you upgrade your memory on a Dell and it causes your machine to die, your warranty is voided.

drzinc, MOST dj's will know what they need when they buy a machine. But I certainly 100% agree with you that bring so proprietary with their hardware is definitely a drawback. No arguments on that point my friend. But please know, the ONLY thing people upgrade in laptops are Ram and hard drives. The FACT is, the hard drive (or the Solid State Chips) are in fact upgradable. The Ram is not.

So, of the two upgradable items, one is permitted, the other is not. However, with 16 gigs of Ram, will you ever need to upgrade the Ram? I would think not.

If the unit would fail, and I have no reason to expect it to, I would pull the RAM and replace it with the original, and if it still has a problem, then it wasn't my RAM and back it would go. If it was my RAM, I would replace it. Given that you need to be a specialized surgeon to do that on the new MBP, I would say I would be more comfortable knowing I could handle most issues myself (I have disassembled a number of laptops to repair them). Keys wear out, batteries lose charge holding ability .. I would hate to think these simple and relatively inexpensive repairs required a trip to the manufacturer.

All my machines are out of the 1 year warranty anyway and I wouldn't buy an extended one.

Missing my point Steve... The NEW Macbook Pro comes STANDARD with 8 gigs of ram. Do you need more than that? Ever? If you would like, you can upgrade at the time of purchase to up to 16 gigs of Ram. For dj apps, this would be crazy to do.

Bottom line, there is no need to upgrade ram, therefore it is there for good.

Hard drive, or SSD is upgradable.

Yes .. they pack a lot in to help justify the exorbitant price, which is ok if you really need it all. But say you wanted to go to 16Gb down the road when some new gee whiz thing comes along or upgrade the HD ... really can't do it without their help and cost.

Sure you can upgrade the hard drive.

The ram, not so sure. But really, who needs 16 gigs of ram for dj'ing. Guys get away with 2 gigs now and look at what the software can do.

Having more than 8 gigs of ram is the least of my worries.

But listen, you have never seen a more slick dj machine until you have seen a Macbook Pro with a terabyte hard drive and 8 gigs of ram.. I would love for you to just see one of my machines work.

Macs are cute and all but if I won one or something the first thing I'd do is partition for Boot Camp. When the mobo died on my old computer I was forced to use my Mac Mini as my production machine for a good 6 months. For the life of me I couldn't get used to OS X's work flow. It's funny, because I was very comfortable in Ubuntu's desktop environment (pre-Unity) but OS X just didn't cut for me. It seems more geared to uni-tasking then having multiple windows open for work.
