First let me start off with saying I have never used a DMX light controller. I had an Chauvet Obay 40 a long time ago. I don't remember what happened to it.

I'm looking at getting another moving head like the one I just bought. After that 2 Chauvet Intimadator 110 lights and I already have one light I can use with the new moving head I just bought. Any suggestions please. I have some inexpensive ones for less than $50 and others for over $100.

do you the patients to learn how to use it, you seem to have difficulty with very basic audio set ups DMX has a pretty steep learning curve you have to be able to focus and learn by reading instructions . You seem to get frustrated easily, I just gave all of my analog stuff away or I would give you one, the pc based DMX is much easier

Mix you do know the guys are going to jump all over you on this one. Trust me you don't need a lot of lights. First get some paying gigs and then you will be able to afford them.
Year 2016 ! That is eight years ago Mixxy.

Mix be honest with yourself. Do you believe you have the capacity to learn DMX, how to set up each fixture so it works properly for the scenes you want to run.
Is lighting really more for you than your clients, the events you post about seem like the would be perfectly fine with a basic color wash or no lighting at all

You're the one who keeps saying if I don't use a light controller that I'm not doing it right.

Yes you are correct, however the proper thing to do would be to not buy effects lights for events that don’t need them,

Please answer my question, do you believe you have the patience to learn DMX? As in read books , watch videos, or do you know someone who will teach you, not set it up for you as you need to be able to reprogram at an event should you have an issue

@MIXMASTERMACHOM - for the events that you do, you don't need DMX control. If you want to add some lights, just set them to auto or sound active mode. DMX isn't always user-friendly when getting started. I can almost promise you that you'll get frustrated with it before you get to a point that you're happy, if you ever do. It takes a lot of time, patience, and learning to make the lights do what you want, when you want. I'd even say that some events, guys probably put in more work to get their lights/effects on point than they do prepping their music. I'm not telling you what to do, but if I were in your shoes, I'd look online and keep an eye out for a used Gigbar 2 for maybe $100-$150. Set that puppy to sound active mode, and rock your party.

Don’t buy anything , I’ve changed my mind on this , you can’t even figure out what cord to plug into your controller you should sell everything before you wreck something else
When are you going to retire from DJing?

Sorry for that last post Tunes4046. Now on a serious note, have you made a mistake as a DJ before. I made a mistake. I should have put the power cord in a separate place where there's just that one cord there. I'm human and I made a mistake. Honestly I was debating telling what happened because I know I was going to take a beating for what I did and I deserve the beating.

I am stepping back significantly, I realize that wedding clients don’t typically want a 55 year old DJ, and other events do not draw enough revenue to make it a viable business, My ego doesn’t need to be fed by DJing,
All I can say is thanks. My buddy asked me when I was going to retire. I'm 66 years old and I told him at first when he retires. LOL. Truthfully I told him when I no love enjoy doing it. I still like it most times. My best friends brother told me one time I can't stop DJing because it's what keeps me going/alive. Every once in a while I get excited about an event I have to do. I got 2 events coming up that I'm excited to be doing.

One is Thursday December 19th. That's the seniors CD Party in Montclair where I'm the resident DJ. The actual time is from 2-6PM. They had a exercise class in the morning that day from 10-11AM. I plan to be there all day. After the class I plan to setup and I decided I won't start playing until 1:30. I don't want to start too early so that I can't finish till the end.

The other one is on January 1st in Paterson, NJ. The event is a free event and it's from 9 AM to 9 PM. It's going to be a speaker jam with a little dance after they finish with the speaker portion. The speakers will start at 10 and stop at 11:30 so the meeting at noon can setup for their meeting. I will play music until the meeting starts. The meeting will be over at 1:30. They will take a break for lunch and I will play music then till it time to go back to people speaking. The actual dance portion won't start until around 8 and the event is over at 9.

I let the chair person know that I have wireless mics they can use at the event for people speaking if they like so people don't have to strain to hear someone speaking. I have a 4 wireless mic system and I also have a heavy duty table mic stand I will use that day. That way the mic will be not on the table and any speaker who wants to use the mic they can.

The other good thing is there's a elevator that can be used that day to get the gear to the second floor. It's a very small elevator but it does work. Just can't load to much on it at one time. No problem for me because I will be there super early so I can take my time getting the gear to the second floor.

Useing a gate/ compresser or any EQ on the guests mics Adrian?
I prefer an MR 18 . May be a little overkill
But that is all I have at this time.
Small footprint along with a tablet .

I can’t bring myself to waste my time on an activity that requires me to be at a location and invest my money with no return, I don’t enjoy it the way I used to, I rather spend time at my hobby farm playing with old tractors and pretending to be a farmer or working on old cars.
