I know this might get moved to another location. I hope not because of what happened. I had some lights in a tote that got stolen out of the van. Not sure if I made a mistake and a door was left open. Trust me I didn't want to tell that this happened. I now need to work on getting more lights. I have one light left that needs fixing. What would you suggest for lights that aren't to expensive? Looking at buying 4-5 lights over the next year. Maybe a couple more. Looking for lights under $300. Some can be under $200. I have a couple in mind that I had that I liked. Probably will get those 2 again. I have to check a site to see what they were. Anyway Happy New Year.

Mix you do know the guys are going to jump all over you on this one. Trust me you don't need a lot of lights. First get some paying gigs and then you will be able to afford them.
I know. Here are some I was looking at on the site I will be buying them from. Some I had and some I didn't. Just want are your thoughts for each one. ADJ Monster Beam, ADJ Quad Gem, ADJ Stinger 11 and Stinger, Chauvet DJ Cubix, ADJ Stinger Gobo, Stagg Tricorn, Eliminator Cloud, ADJ Quad Phase HP, Chauvet DJ Swarm 5 FX, ADJ Revo 4, ADJ Monster Fun and ADJ Stinger Star. Which ones would you choose and which ones would you stay clear away from.?

Mix first they really aren't cheap, if you want something easy look at the dotz tpar system from adj about 400.00

I recommend not purchasing any lighting effects. Lights do not earn you money.

Try booking events where the customer is paying an additional fee for lighting effects on top of your regular rate before purchasing lights. Once you have 2 or more events booked with signed agreements and deposits in hand...then allocate that money towards new lighting.

Mix I have lights coming out my ears here and most gigs I use 2 the Revo III and a Galaxian laser and it's more than enough. Occasionally I feel generous and take a couple of other lights but it's rare I ever have more than 4 at any gig.

I get asked maybe 2 or 3 times a year about lights I explain what I take and let them know that it's plenty for an average room and if they want more there is an extra charge. I think I up-sold them twice in the last 5 years. Like Ricky said there is no money in providing lights and although I feel it's a necessity to have some you don't need a lot.

If I was going to do it again I think I would go with the Gig Bar that Steve posted

Lights like the Revo and the ADJ Monster Beam lights won't show much in my opinion without haze or fog. They project "beams or dots" if you call them, and I think don't appear that impressive without the atmospheric effects added.

The newer Kinta FX for $150 has a red and green laser, derby light, and SMD strobes. Extremely bright led's and very compact.

I can't speak for the Monster Beam but the Revo looks pretty good pointed toward the ceiling and sweeping the dance floor

Mix like Jeff I too have more lights than the law allows, the more the lights 1 it takes time to set up and 2 all these lights don't make you a better dj

Just buy one of the gig bars and be done the two shows you get paid for each year aren't worth any more investment than that
Nice try but wrong onion breath. My thing with this that a lot of DJs around here just provide the sound and nothing else. So for me it's about presenting something more to a client then just a sound system. True story and some of you will ind this funny. I was doing an event and was using my black carpeted facade. Someone came up to me and said they thought that was a speaker. Point being most in this area don't use such a thing or even know what one is. So having lights will add to what I'm doing and give a nice presentation to a clients event if they want them. Again a lot of DJs in this area don't either have such a thing or just don't use them.

"Onion Breath" .. that's a new one .. Mix, how will you run these? Unless you're talking $3,000-$4000 plus in lighting, you'd be basically throwing it in to your fees. Do you have that much business lined up for 2017 to absorb a hit of $500+ in give away lighting? I said it before .. dump most of the gear you have .. it's WAYYYYY too big for what you do and go smaller and lighter. DO away with the partners. Focus on gigs you can do yourself. If you want lighting, get one of the GigBars .. simple to setup and simple to run. Focus man ....
