The Chartbuster series is one of the best. The SCDG version isn't quite as good as the normal version due to higher compression (they're on a single DVD vs 30 CDs), but they are good enough for most uses and suffice while you add to the library.

You can buy these in normal version for around $100-$150 per 450 song pack. Packs 7-10 are only available in the normal version (I have 3 of the 4) on CDs or SD Card.

I bought one of these packs a number of years back ... a good way to populate a karaoke library with 2700 asked for songs.

SCDGs were originally designed for CAVS Karaoke players, but there are rippers available to make them usable by any karaoke software. The one I use is: Power SCDG Ripper: convert SCDG and SCD+G discs to MP3+G or ZIP.

Interesting ... mine look pretty standard (as in they don't look like copies). They have a full printed booklet inside (not photo-copied). A couple of quick Google searches came up with nothing to indicate there are copies floating around (though I'm sure it happens). These were originally designed for CAVS players and their SCDG format, but can be converted fairly easily ....

Curious if you got that info from Chart-Busters or Slep-tone, the legal group that bought them up and pursued a lot of shaky stuff.

I did get the info from them. I believe Chartbusters stated they never approved creation or Distribution of ANY SCDG's so although they look original it's because that company did create them. They just did it without any proper licensing. They ripped Chartbusters CDG sets and created these sets and sold them under their name
 
Screw trying to buy and build your own library. Karasoft makes what I think is the best k-player around and for like $4 and an internet connection, you can hot download and play their entire library. I used this back in December and ended up maybe playing 2 or 3 of my own cuts, out of the entire night. Their library is quite extensive and the download/streaming works very, very well.

If you don't already have a collection i completely agree that's probably the way to start out. I started as a Karaoke business back in the day so since i already have an extensive collection i only have to spend about $100 / year to stay fairly current and own everything

I'm not sure I buy that .. seems they were sold by CAVS until Chartbuster went out of business ... but at this point, seems we'll never know for sure.

Could be .. though, they've been selling these for years on eBay, but only E1-E6 .. 7-10 are not available as SCDGs, only as 30 disc sets (with less compression). I figure the people who bought the assets would have shut that down by now if they are/were fakes.
